UK-based Momentum Pictures has put up a trailer for Shame, the controversial, NC-17 Steve McQueen-directed drama that stars Michael Fassbender as a man caught in a spiral of promiscuity. Carey Mulligan plays his sister. Both are being mentioned for awards for a film that Fox Searchlight acquired for US distribution at the start of the Toronto Film Festival. The picture has been widely acclaimed on the festival circuit.

Boooo I’m a sexy young man who enjoys f*cking around and I feel depressed because I may be bisexual and I don’t know how to handle it boooooo I’m so sad pity me momma pity mea
Not even close! But thanks for playing.
Incredible film for grown ups, I would love to see it score some nominations.
Fox Searchlight didn’t put up this trailer; in fact, this trailer was made by Momentum Pictures (the film’s UK distributor). In fact, this trailer is only for the film’s UK release.
(Fox Searchlight will release the US trailer later)
I loved the script. Wow.
GREAT trailer! Very accurately reflects the movie. That piece of score is gorgeous and haunting. I really enjoyed the film @ TIFF, though it offers up a lot of questions never quite answered – but that’s exactly why I look forward to seeing it again. The scene with Fassbender and Mulligan on the couch, shot from behind, is one of the best combos of acting and directorial choice i’ve seen all year – incredibly potent.
It’s Momentum Pictures trailer, the UK distributor of Shame, not Fox Searchlight. Fox so far managed only to do a new poster for Shame (beautiful BTW) and that’s it. No word when they are going to start the real promotion in US.
Also Shame has no any rating yet. Granted it probably will get NC-17, but technically speaking there is no rating yet for this film.
Looks great. Fassbender is the real deal.
Fox Searchlight knows who to hire for their trailers… they’re always crisp. looks great.
The movie has not been rated yet. This should be an Oscar nominated film but the academy is too old fashion. Boo hiss.
Puzzled as to why McQueen didn’t either (a) cast two American (versus Irish and British) actors for a NY-based film; or (b) set the film in London so that his two leads wouldn’t seem conspicuously out of place.
Mulligan does a decent enough American accent, but Fassbender’s is a tad wobbly.
Of course I meant:
They DON’T play Americans, they play Irish living in US.
Per a recent Q&A with McQueen, the original location was UK, but moved to US when they could not get financing. Fassbender’s “wobbly” accent is explained in the film.
Don’t worry about accents, trailers or anything else. Just watch the film. All will be revealed. It’s a true materpiece from one of cinema’s most interesting and provocative directors. Probably too explicit for the puritanicls,, but for anyone who loves great cinema will appreciate.
Okay, I am certainly willing to be open that this movie can bring a new and interesting perspective to the subject. I do like McQueen very much. But on its face it seems silly and overly melodramatic about a phase many men, and increasingly women, go through in their lives.
For pity’s sake, it’s just sex.
Saw this movie in Venice. Amazing. Casting is brilliant. Acting is top notch!
Music is annoying. Cutting is ordinary. Story is incomprehensible. Glad it’s not the Searchlight trailer after all. It’s not up to their usual high standard.
