Marvel Studios has released its first full trailer for The Avengers, its Joss Whedon-directed dream teaming of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and team leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who team up against Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who emerged as a villain in the first Thor film. Whedon has the fanboy cred and they’ve done nothing here to dampen enthusiasm for a film that Disney releases May 4, 2012.

“Whedon” dialogue all sounds the same to me and not in a good way. Always obvious stuff said in a deadpan way and meant to sound smartassy? It’s the SAME joke over and over again. Take this trailer for example. Both of Stark’s ‘jokes’ are exactly the same idea.
It’s not for me. But I know a lot of people love it.
They got to be hoping this isn’t another League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
They have clearly jumped the shark. It looks so phoney, something just created to sell popcorn. It’s just another souless superhero movie with an artificial collection. And I’m a former comicbook nut, but after that last Iron Man and X-Men first class, you won’t get another nickle from me. It’s the same frigging movie every single time. Is there any originality left in this town.
Not to worry, Abe. They’re working on the reboot simultaneously.

What is originality anymore??? You give me ANY movie in ANY genre now a days and I will point out something in the story that is recycled and that has been done over and over and over again. I think you’re counting is way off – I know I didn’t like it and those I went with didn’t like it so that’s more than 5 right there and I find it hard to believe that the only people who didn’t like it are concentrated in my neighborhood.
Thank God this came out now. That cover on EW had me worried. This looks Iike a terrific pop corn flick. But really with the exploding taxis? Again? Flipping, exploding cars seems to be the new pyrotechnic feat du journey. these big boys figured out how to do it right so they now put them in every movie. Yawn. Looking forward to Downey interacting with the cast. Fun.

The trailer looks awesome. Looks to be a lot of fun and the bits of dialogue featuring RDJ are classic. This movie is going do gangbusters. Incredible.

Trailer looks like Robert Downey and The Minions (I’d go see them sing at a bar in West Holly, probably not in this…)Flipping taxis as street blows up behind them has only been done in 45 action films so far–and Scarlett johannsen not only says NOTHING–she doesn’t even look well put together–looks like she was on a 3 day bender!lol)
Also a bit weird to see MARVEL and PARAMOUNT in trailer AFTER it has started–self-aggrandize much? Takes you away from and out of the trailer, if you were ever ready to get into it…

I’ll be honest – that trailer did nothing for me. At first I thought it was another ‘Transformers’ movie, with lots of explosions.. that went nowhere in the second half of that trailer..
I’ll wait for more trailers..

Complaining about the lack of originality in this town every time a tentpole flick comes out is sooooo tired and quite ridiculous. There were plenty of good, original films that came out this year, and last, and the year before, they just don’t get the push or the audience these big popcorn flicks get. With a good script, a Canon 5D and Final Cut, you can make any movie, so stop whining and go do it already.
As for comic book movies, those of us who love them had to endure DECADES of crappy productions helmed by weak directors with no love of the genre (except Donner in ’78). With CGI they finally got the visual treatment they deserved and (for the most part) attracted directors who treated the material with respect. These are good for box office and good for business.
I love indies but after the ’90s where every unwashed, apathetic hipster with very little to say got their own multi-picture deal, I’m glad to see some explosive, hyper-visual storytelling.

Hollywood lacks originality, yes, they do! Thats why they always do re-makes, and buy out stories form stupid comic books that people forget 20mins after they leave the theater.
