After lengthy negotiations, Oscar winner Chris Cooper has closed his deal to star in HBO’s Noah Baumbach/Scott Rudin drama pilot The Corrections. Cooper and fellow Oscar winner Dianne Wiest will play the leads in the project based on Jonathan Franzen’s book. The award-wining 2001 novel revolves around the troubles of an elderly Midwestern couple (Cooper and Wiest), and their three adult children as they trace their lives from the mid-20th century to “one last Christmas” together near the turn of the millennium. Baumbach and Franzen co-wrote the adaptation, with Baumbach set to direct the pilot. The two are executive producing with Rudin. Cooper, repped by Paradigm and Untitled, will next be seen in The Muppets.

Cooper is a brilliant Actor and this project sounds good.
Beyond perfect casting.
He finally signed with Michael Lazo so he can do a TV show? Can you say incoming call?
I’m surprised the room didn’t ice over with Baumbach and Franzen both in it.
Great casting but I truly do not know how they will do this as a series. Miniseries maybe, but open-ended I just can’t wrap my head around.
HBO is on my radar again. Fuck Game of Thrones and juvenile vampires and all the either high concept or crap conceived from star fucking.
This is going to be great. Smaller character driven quality television. About time HBO.
Game of Thrones is not character-driven?The hell’s wrong with you?
The adaptation sucks. Novel much better.
Great. Noah can’t make a film ANYONE wants to see, and The Corrections is a book no one wants to read.
ED…couldn’t agree more…. boring and depressing. Stupid move on both actors part. They won’t be able to rise above the material. HBO has lost sight that it’s the story that brings in an audience…They just keep star fucking. it’ll cost them
Did anyone read the Corrections? It was a bad episode of All of the Family w/o the heart or wit.
great book. attention casting directors: if its cooper and diane wiest, who should play the kids?
Lazo has guided his career perfectly for years. That’s an ignorant and reckless comment. And it’s not TV, it’s HBO. Cooper is a huge talent…can’t wait to see this.
