Krysten Ritter, star of ABC’s upcoming comedy series Apartment 23, has sold her first TV project as a producer, the hourlong drama Cassandra French’s Finishing School For Boys based on Eric Garcia’s novel of the same name. Garcia (Matchstick Men) will write the adaptation, described as being in the tone of Heathers. It centers on a 22-year-old overachiever who gets her dream job as a lawyer for a Hollywood studio but can’t find a guy ready for a real, mature relationship. After the latest disappointment, she locks a
guy up in her basement in order to train him to become the perfect gentleman. Ritter and Garcia are executive producing. Ritter, repped by WME, the Group Entertainment and Sanders/Armstrong/Caserta, co-wrote, produced and stars in the indie Life Happens. Garcia, repped by WME and IPG, is writing Wheel Of Time for Universal and The Prize Of Peril for Sony.
USA also has bought a project by a screenwriter/novelist. The cable network has closed a deal for Wayward Bound, an hourlong dramedy from Richard Murphy about employees at a boutique travel company struggling to navigate life while guiding their clients through the concrete jungle that is Los Angeles. Murphy will executive produce with Deborah Spera and Maria Grasso. Sony TV, where the two are based, is producing. Murphy, managed by Anonymous, previously wrote an adaptation of his novel Confessions Of A Contractor for CBS, with Shawn Ryan executive producing.

Both of those ideas sound really horible for a sreies or even movies.
Wow, “Finishing School for Boys.” What a plot description. If the genders were reversed, “Guy locks woman in his basement to train her how to be a lady,” holy feminist lesbo hell would break loose. And this thing’s actually getting MADE? Gender equality? Really, people.
cmon, it sounds fun, dark, and ironic. we need more edge on tv. i’ll be watching this.
You sound like one of those people who complains about racism against whites.
I love Krysten Ritter – can’t wait for Apartment 23!
Love Krysten Ritter – can’t wait for Apartment 23
“She locks up a guy in her basement in order to train him to become the perfect gentleman.” REEKS!!
it seems like someone rented Swimming with Sharks and thought they could rework it for women. And b/c women, according to H’wood, are *only* obsessed with relationships, it had to be reworked in that vain.
blech.
Go krysten ritter!! Love her and love that she is expanding her resume!
yay for MTV but i think they should stick to half hour smart comedies like “awkward” and stuff like “Teen Wolf”, but i guess this could work
I find it impressive that krysten ritter is acting, writing, producing and actually selling her work. More young hollywood actresses should take their careers by the reins in this way.
The synopsis of the book sounds like a female dexter. Could be very cool.
Sounds nothing like Dexter.
Sounds very based-in-reality… what with the 22 year old girl getting a “dream job at a Hollywood studio”. Really?
I know a 26 year old lawyer at one of the biggest firms in the world. She’s actually competent but still.
Hollywood is one of the few industries that’s screwed up enough to put someone that young in a position of authority. That and drug dealing. After all, how many 30 year old network presidents have there been?
The synopsis for the book on amazon i mean. Anyway love ritter and excited for her abc show too dont trust the bitch in apt 23. Nahnatchka kahn is a great conedy writer and the 2 of them together is lightning in a bottle.
Eric Garcia is THE BEST. Brilliant, talented and great guy. And Cassandra is a phenomenal book. Krysten Ritter is the full package – smart, funny, and hot. Well done, MTV.
ritter and garcia – awesome team!
Krysten Ritter is a multidimensional talent!! She is brilliant in every way!
Krysten Ritter is very talented. L!fe Happens was surprisingly good. I’m wondering what the marketing strategy is going to be for that film. If done right, it could easily become a hit. However, if her TV show is the tone of Heathers, it sounds like HBO or Showtime would be more up her alley, than ABC, no?
This is so relatable…I know tons of 22 year old lawyers at Hollywood studios and on top of that they all lock up guys in their basement! Why hasn’t this been made already?
At least MTV is taking risks. It’s like a Dexter in the dating world…
This actually sounds really interesting. Glad to see mtv is branching out a bit.
OMG I love this book, it’s totally weird, dark, edgy and funny.
krysten ritter is a great working role model. making her own way. love trailblazing hard working young women and she is the poster girl for it. congrats.
she’s the star of her own show AND now producing a show. so smart to get behind the camera as well.
Murphy’s subtle humor was hilarious in “Confessions of a Contractor.” Can’t wait to see “Wayward Bound”!
Krysten Ritter is a force to be reckoned with, man. When does this girl sleep?
Wah! Pretty girls don’t like me! Did you lead the charge on the boycott of Boxing Helena?
At least it’s not a bunch of friends living together in the big city… I’m for anything that actually dares try something different.
That said, this really doesn’t sound like an MTV show. I think it could be successful on FX though, maybe paired with something like Wilfred.
this book is so fun and has a great dexter take on chic lit. this should be a cool show. I actually think it could really work well at MTV
