EXCLUSIVE: Adam Levine is no accidental TV producer. After a single-camera karaoke comedy project he executive produces sparked a bidding war in July before landing at NBC with penalty, the rocker-turned-reality star has set up a second project with NBC as a producer — this time on the drama side. Titled Awesome Splendor, the project is set in the world of rock ‘n’ roll and is from Parenthood executive producer/director Lawrence Trilling. Trilling will write and direct the project and executive produce it with Levine and Levine’s manager Jordan Feldstein for Universal Television. Trilling come up with the idea for the show and began looking for a partner with strong rock credentials. Since Maroon 5 frontman Levine is repped by the same agency (CAA) and attorney (Karl Austen), the matchmaking was easy and the two hit it off. Levine has become quite the NBC man now, with a starring gig on the network’s singing reality series The Voice and now two projects for the network targeted for next fall, both with music themes. The karaoke comedy, from 20th TV and Chernin Entertainment, is being written by Gene Hong, with Jake Kasdan directing and executive producing and Levine and Feldstein executive producing.

Considering what a turn for the worst Maroon 5 has made, it’s nice to see so many positive things happening for Adam Levine. I don’t care how many albums they might end up selling, it’s been all downhill musically since Maroon 5′s mostly terrific debut.
I TOTALLY disagree! I absolutely LOVE Maroon 5 and they have MANY songs that have charted/are still charting. I saw them in Concert this past August (w/Train & Gavin DeGraw). The show was AWESOME…sold out, of course! Everyone in the audience was singing along. When M5 left the stage, the audience was unbelievably loud, chanting for them to come back out! After a few mins, they came back out & did a few more songs. BEST concert I’ve ever been too!
Derby was talking about quality. Music charts don’t mean music quality. And I totally agree with him (her?).
And yes, I know they rock out on stage and they are simply awesome, but Adam himself said the band is changing their style to make more songs like “Moves Like Jagger” and, if you’re a real fan, you know MLJ isn’t Maroon 5 AT ALL, it’s just pop music made to top the charts. So, if they’re making music just to sell out, well, they’re not really caring for quality anymore
Btw, glad for Adam, he’s really nice.
I have always been an M5 fan since day one and to hear a progression in their style and music has only made me like them more. I enjoy all of their albums and do not think that they sell out. They make quality music that lots of people actually like and that’s why they sell and make hits. It’s rock with disco which is popish in a way cuz it makes me move. I LOVE it! MLJ is awesome too..I wish though he sang it by himself but whatever, it’s still makes me move. I’m just so happy for Adam and all of his on going success and I can’t wait to see what he will do in the future. They HAVE to continue to make music though and NeveR stop..as M5.
Sorry for being so ignorant, but what does ‘penalty’ mean in this reference?
This means that if for some reason NBC decides to not pick up the Levine/Kasdan/Hong show, they will have to pay out a large sum of money as a penalty. The hotter the show/bidding war, the higher the penalty.
Rock n’ roll from a writer on Parenthood…
Now that sounds f’n edgy.
Adam is getting every offer in the world right now. I don’t get it. what cred does he have in the narrative world? At least he’s being selective and surrounding himself with good teams. Trilling’s Parenthood is great, Kasdan’s New Girl’s a smash, and the show Hong writes on, Allen Gregory, looks like it’s gonna be hilarious. No, I don’t work for 20th.
go back to the music adam
What’s “rock ‘n roll” about Adam Levine?
If his wicked ink isn’t enough to give him rock cred… he can definitely do some well above average guitar shredding.
Anonymous ~ I’m guessing, from your question, that you’ve never seen M5 in concert, or heard Adam JAM on the guitar. You may be thinking of some of M5′s more ‘neo-soul’ or ‘ballad’ stuff, but let me tell you, Adam can rock out!
Will Adam be auditioning any young unknown singers/actors for roles in his new show?
PS: Good job, Adam! I am happy that things are going your way!
All the people talking crap about maroon 5 you are sooo misguided. Poor u
Rock Credentials?? I think that is hilarious. People have forgotten what Rock n Roll really is.
No wonder NBC is in the crapper.
He’s talented and soooooo hot…
Honestly, I love maroon 5 and Adam Levine <3 so i am so excited to hear this news!
I see M5 every chance I can…Adam may be moving in a lot of directions right now but the other guys are branching out too. It will be a sad day of they split…they still have a lot to give as a band!!!!
He’s kind of a tool
I agree.
I think Maroon 5 is terrific and no, they are not the old time rock and roll, but are a combination of pop/rock. But Adam is so very creative, was such a great coach on “The Voice” and I would hate to see Maroon 5 not be Maroon 5 anymore, but everyone in that band is very talented and can make it on their own. Never knew who Maroon 5 was until last year’s show “The Voice” because I don’t listen to pop stations which is where their music is played in my area, but I follow their tweets, read who they are as real people and I wish everyone the best of luck no matter what their future holds….. and if Adam can do anything…he can make a show work! I’m certain of that.
Does it really matter, what? who? when? where? Obviously the guy’s got talent, if he didn’t he wouldn’t be where he is today. You go Adam!
Maroon 5′s music quality has not gone away, they’re just adjusting to keep up with the fast paced changing of music taste. I for one think they’re doing brilliantly and I wish them the best of luck. They have a long time fan in me!
People who criticize Adam say that because they envy him, they wish they were in his place. He has an awesome voice, his music is great, he is handsome and also hard-worker guy.
I love Maroon 5 very much
Adam and m5 can certainly rock out. Just go to one of their concerts. Live they show their class. Perhaps needs to stick to what he does best though
Hes friends/roommates with the writer for the show (that will have a lot of music, by other articals I read) and The Voice is music based… Hes defiantly still focusing on music:)
