EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has re-teamed Bad Teacher writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg with director Jake Kasdan for a new untitled comedy. The logline: After a Supercuts manager advises his best friend to break off his engagement, he unexpectedly falls in love with the jilted fiancee, testing both his new romance and his friendship. Eisenberg and Stupnitsky will produce with Mosaic, which produced Bad Teacher. So far, they haven’t made progress on mounting a sequel to Bad Teacher, a film that cost around $20 million and grossed around $215 million worldwide. The writers also worked for Sony Pictures on Ghostbusters III. While there has been no shortage of rumors that actors are being cast and that production will begin on the third installment as soon as spring, I’m told that the studio isn’t going to make it without Bill Murray. And as recently as last month, he had not read the script, or if he did, he has not reached out to get the dealmaking started. Without him, I don’t think the film has a ghost of a chance.

Nice to see Lee and Gene continue to make solid moves.
Love those guys
The movie actually cost $19 million.
But I have a hard time understanding is how it made $215 million.
That is a MONSTER number.
There should not be a sequel to Bad Movie… I mean Bad Teacher, which was a Bad Movie.
love everything about this. I will take a Bad Teacher sequel, a GB3, and whatever else they’re selling. Pumped!!
Bad Teacher was absolutely awful. No attempt at establishing character development or motivation — just a bunch of scenes strung together, many of which weren’t funny at all. Lucy Punch was the only remotely amusing thing in it.
I love Bill Murray, but Sony needs to know that not only will I see the flick with or without Bill (if it’s good), but so would everyone I know. If it IS good? Expect us to buy tickets more than once!
As long as the rest of the original cast are in place-and it sounds like they are-people will come. If Transformers 2 can make almost a billion dollars worldwide, the skies the limit for Ghostbusters 3!
The main bullshit here is that Mr. Murray is just not answering either way, which is why I blame Bill and not Sony. If he said “no” then the crosshairs would be on the backs of the head honcho’s at Sony, but Bill is holding everyone there hostage.
I know this is how he has worked for years (showing up literally last minute to be in the movie), but it’s time to be professional. We love you Bill and want you in part 3 more than anything…but please just read the script and call Sony and Ivan!
Exactly. If he’s going to be such a problem, the script can be edited so that Venkman died between 2 and 3 (or the game and 3, if you count it; the game had a pretty cool story), and we can have one of the new guys be the wit. Sony *doesn’t* need him for this.
I’ve been wondering if there would be a Bad Teacher sequel.. I don’t see why not.. Sure the trailer was alot funnier than the actual film, but Cameron & co. still made Sony bucket-loads of cash with that movie.
