I’ll watch that kooky lady’s show when she has Tom Celic on again. That’s about it.
Sorry, but a hellova tired old retread this one. Why not send her to a class to discover her inner feminine? I think she’s a big masculine bore. But you’ll hear more from me on this one. Oprah you are not finding us anyone new who is inspiring. You could put Phil Donahue on again. He at least leads us to find our heroic selves. I wish you well sister in life. It is a tough job.
Isn’t this pretty much an admission that no one is watching OWN, and that they spent way too much money on it?
Pretty much? It’s a complete and total admission that Discovery failed. PR can spin the roadblock ten different ways and the public will still see right through it.
Why oh why did they put rosie and oprah on ID? If I wanted to watch it i’d watch Own!
So the shows will be failures across five different networks instead of just one? Congratulations.
Wouldn’t a simulcast of a series on the failed network Planet Green from the failed network OWN be redundant? Can a single program occupy the bottom two spots on the ratings lists? Or can you only finish last once?
Oprah would serve a much better purpose in the world if she just concentrated on doing charitable work and stop pushing these lowest common denominator series. She is much better than that.
can you spell D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E
This is pretty much Oprah Winfrey admitting her network is a failure and has to rely on other networks to generate anything even remotely resembling ratings.
Now can we finally put to bed the out-dated idea that Oprah is relevant and has the Midas Touch? It’s not like she did anything for XM/Sirius subscriber-wise when she joined them (and cost them an arm and a leg).
I enjoyed Rosie’s old talk show but the previews I’ve seen of this new one looks like a Frankenstein monster of 20 different TV show ideas badly cobbled together. Part talk show, part game show, part variety show, part 17 other things. Horrible.
I only listen to Sirius because of Oprah. She obviously got them subscribers because they renewed her contract for tens of millions. It’s Howard Stern who cost them an arm and leg charging hundreds of millions to listen to his unfunny fart jokes.
Stand-up has always been Rosie’s strong suit and she needs that intro to keep the eyeballs. Celebrity-fawning and inspirational are not enough to keep an audience engaged so the interviews better be exceptional. Go, Rosie!
Honestly a Variety show is what you described… I am not sure you know what that word means.
If she were smart she would have saved AMC and then focused on original scripted programming. Duh!!!!!!! But all that’s hurt by any of this is her ego. Discovery put out the $$$; she just gave them her name and access to her rolodex.
Roadblocks are a great way to bring exposure to a show that may otherwise go under the radar. Given the poor ratings OWN currently gets, this is a very smart move. Anyone looking to watch a woman stupidly and suddenly realize that she was pregnant over on TLC can now sample a show he or she might otherwise not have bothered to try.
Back in August, Discovery did the same thing with “Curiosity” and premiered it across 7 of their networks. I don’t remember hearing anything about how “desperate” that was…
Rosie is an angry bitter old broad. No one will watch that old bag of tricks. Everyone now knows who she really is. People will avoid her.
Anyone who calls a woman in 2011 a Broad has no valid point to make.
I’m looking forward to the Rosie Show! Glad to see Discovery networks putting their muscle behind sister network OWN’s launch of a new brand. Rosie has a point of view and the ability to book great guests. I’ll be there to watch!
You get a show!… You get a show!… You get a show!… You get a show!… You get a show!…
I rather watch Deadliest Catch or Mythbusters reruns that these clowns LOL!
Looks like Oprah just jumped the shark. I pity the shark if she doesn’t actually make it.
In case any one hadn’t noticed this is nothing new, it’s called synergy with other divisions, and Disney, ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channels have been doing it for years, maybe not the same show broadcasting at the same time, but, when Disney wants something to really succeed you will see it on every thing Disney owned where have you people been? Under a rock.
Anytime you can expose viewers on several networks to shows you have a better chance of surviving, it’s called marketing. Before The Chew was even broadcast there was short 5 minute segments on Disney Channel, and other Disney properties. Many that’s why that show debuted to huge numbers for daytime.
Both of these shows simply have a greater chance of success if you flood the airwaves.
..and the slide continues…
WAIT–can it be?–no–YES! Is that
the beginnings of a BOTTOM I see?–
I feel Oprah has had her day in the sun. I think she started actually believing her publicity. And Rosie is just about the least interesting tv personality I can imagine.
As for watching either one of the ladies again – count me out.
Rosie x 5 = lackluster and annoying programming.
Rosie’s blog rants aside, she has proven herself to be a divisive element in any program – remember her View tenure? A solo show isn’t likely to fare much better. She is a strident, polarizing personality that alienates many viewers and sponsors alike. Sure, she has her supporters but they are in such small numbers that a network would have to be pretty desperate to put her on concurrently across 5 channels.
Oh wait, this is OWN we’re talking about? Never mind.
OWN is also terrible name for a network. It’s always sounded to me as elitist and slightly creepy. Like we OWN you and you will watch these shows. They should’ve just called it Oprah and not beaten around the bush with an acronym.
I want to be excited but Im not. I don’t want to see repackaged reruns of the Oprah show with Oprah lecturing us about how great she is. And I really dont find myself that excited to see Rosie as I don’t know what the show is gonna be or which Rosie we will get and then it makes me feel like s he’s not being authentic rosie. Plus the timeslots are weird..7 and 8pET? Going up against primetime?
And the fact remains that for most people, OWN is not on their basic cable and in these tough times, people don’t want to pay more. Im lucky in that OWN is on my basic lineup but thats the exception – and I wouldn’t pay monthly for it AT ALL.
And what happened to those 2 ‘losers’ who won the win your own tv show reality show…shouldnt they be in the lineup soon?
Can they do Hub shows?
Five networks?
Widespread pollution like that demands an immediate EPA response.
Wow for people who don’t want to watch these shows there are a lot of comments for this article. Or did someone teach Trump to finally use a computer?
I used to be an avid Oprah watcher. However, it just got to be the same old, same old. Plus, you can’t give away fantastic gifts to your audience and not expect some envy from those of us sitting at home. I do not plan on watching her “new” show nor am I in any way shape or form interested in Rosie O’Donnell(sp). I was shocked when checking my TV guide to see all the channels showing these “new” shows. Thanks for all the information, which I found to be very interesting. Oprah has to realize if she is offering all these so-called “Life” shows, that the public is fickle, and fame is short. It’s sad but true. We humans just don’t remain THAT loyal THAT long. We are constantly seeking something new and more interesting. I think she should have invested her enormous fortune in something else. I would have thought she’d have been a little more intelligent than that, but fame also fuels and builds an ego. I also got tired of all the advice about marriage and children, etc., when she’s never married and never had a child. Too late now. Don’t wish her ill, but I feel somewhat disappointed that these two shows where her best efforts.
