EXCLUSIVE: Oscar Isaac has landed the coveted lead role in the next film to be directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. Inside Llewyn Davis, which is being made without a domestic distributor, focuses on the early folk music scene in Greenwich Village in the 60s. The Coens and their producing partner Scott Rudin are making it with only an alignment with Studio Canal, which will distribute in France and some other territories. The Coens wrote the script, and they have the usual number of stars lining up to play characters loosely based on folk singers like Dave Van Ronk and Tom Paxton. The brothers are also back in business with Rudin, their producing partner on the Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men and their last film, True Grit. Shooting will start early next year in New York.
Isaac is a fast rising actor who had a showy role in Drive and stars in the Madonna-directed W.E., is currently filming the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner. Since the Coens began casting, every actor in Hollywood has been chasing these parts, so this is a real coup for Isaac. He’s repped by UTA, Inspire Entertainment and SMGSB.

Anyone else think he was the best thing about DRIVE?
No, the direction, the soundtrack, and Ryan Gosling were the best things about DRIVE.
Nope.
He was fine. I’d say the filmmaking, Gosling AND Albert Brooks are all what gave DRIVE it’s energy and made it one of the best films of the year.
Refn (the director) is the best thing about DRIVE.
yep, completely agree with this.
No. He sucked in Sucker Punch and Drive.
Interesting–I thought he was the worst thing about DRIVE. His acting makes me cringe. I love the Coens, I will give them and Isaac the benefit of the doubt and assume they see something that I don’t.
Carey Mulligan was by far the worst part of Drive
I thought he was great also. I actually felt bad when he got gunned down.
I saw this guy at a Juilliard showcase many years ago. He just blew the entire audience away with his work. Glad to see he’s on the rise, he’s pretty talented.
I heard the movie traces the simmering rivalry between The Folksmen and The Main Street Singers, until it bursts into violence.
You won’t be smirking when the Coen Brothers reel you in and demolish your pride. You are nowhere near the target. You just wait, Scoffy Scofferstein.
Drive sucked. Oscar was the only good thing about it.
He is an incredible actor and deserves every great job like this. People don’t know he’s an amazing musician too.
I think it was UTA’s unveiling of their new logo that really tipped the scale for Isaac on this one.
Good for Spire!!!
Well deserved. Oscar is the most talented interesting actor of his generation. So happy for him.
He was also great in Robin Hood. I would have sworn he was british until I saw an interview.
The Blinking Underdogs need to reunite again.
Oscar Isaac is incredible – he’s the best thing about Suckerpunch, Robinhood, Drive (arguably). Give him a year or two, he will get big – just watch.
The best thing about DRIVE was… everything! Solid performances all-around, great story, great directing, great producing. Goesling was mesmerising…
Yes, he was great in Drive.
Oscar Issac is going to win an……Oscar…..
That little kid was the worst thing about drive… damn him. Damn him to hell.
Is Oscar Latin? Because in Sucker Punch he really looked it as the nightclub boss. He played one in Drive, and I like that he didn’t use a sterotypical accent. Oscar has amazing range. I could not beleive that was him in Robin Hood. Drive was a great flick by the way, Gosling and the cast ruled. (execpt Mulligan who always has that same pained look on her face)
He was very good in Agora. Does a good british accent.
Are the Coen brothers looking at 24 year old, PA based singer/songwriter Phil Minissale for a role in “Inside Llewyn Davis”?
