Thousands of TV executives from around the world are en route to Cannes for the annual MIPCOM market, which starts on Monday. The great majority of them, who are flying into the nearby Nice airport, were greeted by a group of Pan Am stewardesses — a promotion for the new ABC/Sony TV series, which will be among the offerings at the confab. (Though most of the sales for the 1960s soap were made after the international screenings in May.) Probably because there is no airport in Cannes, Pan Am stewardesses were stationed at both terminals of the Nice airport, greeting travelers on their way to the annual confab, according to an attendee who snapped a picture. Among the highlights at this year’s MIPCOM: keynote speeches by Disney-ABC’s Anne Sweeney, Fox’s Kevin Reilly, Miramax’s Mike Lang and Viacom International’s Robert Bakish as well as a press conferences with Paul Verhoeven and Ashley Judd.

I really enjoyed the Pan Am pilot. Escapist fun.
The skirts on the show aren’t as short as these ones unfortunately!!
Ah. Beautiful nostalgia fare.
Easily the most boring series of the new season. Shameless in it’s won’t to be Mad Men. I give it 8 and out. A very costly folly.
Are you joking? The pilot was easily as exciting as Mad Men. People forget how things start after they’ve seen 4 seasons. That’s one of the troubles of new shows. Go back and watch Parks and Rec, The Office, or Community. I bet you would change your mind. Of all the pilots I’ve seen this fall, it’s easily the best. The rest are terrible. Or in Terra Nova’s case, beyond terrible.
Did you notice that the skirts hit at different lengths on models. All skirts same length & different height models maybe? Hmmmm
I like these period shows. They make me nostalgic for a time when Americans were prosperous and could hold their heads up with pride. You know, before the Republicans destroyed the country.
This is a stinker. It is desperate to lap up some period vibe from Mad Men, while cashing in on the cheesy nostalgia of the days when Stewardesses were fired for getting too old or too fat. It’s a flea-bitten cliche, and feels cynical, even by television standards.
I agree with the above. I’m a middle aged man, and I didnt find this either sexy, nostalgia-inducing or fun to watch. In fact I think it is an embarrassment to the network. And as I’m pretty sure this show will have no interest for women, one wonders how it will survive.
