Obama’s High-Priced Hollywood Fundraisers Attract Major Stars & Celebrities & Money
UPDATE, 2:15 PM: NBC has posted clips from President Obama’s morning taping at The Tonight Show With Jay Leno that will air tonight. He weighs in on Gaddafi, Iraq and, with a nice shout-out to a certain CBS/Mark Burnett reality show, the GOP debates. See that clip below:
PREVIOUS, 12 PM: In LA, a presidential visit is as much a traffic report as a politics story: After POTUS spent Monday at a pair of Hollywood fundraisers, he recorded his Tonight Show segment with Jay Leno this morning (it will air tonight, but NBC said it would make excerpts available this afternoon) and departed Burbank by helicopter at 11:36 AM, according to pool reports. That’s good news for NBC, Disney and Warner Bros employees who might have been stuck in lunchtime traffic. Obama arrived at LAX at 11:48 AM and was on Air Force One by 11:53, heading for events San Francisco and Denver later today.

Waste of time and money
i swear to god this man has done nothing but campaign for his 2nd term since he got into office!
You do realize that all politicians have to fund-raise on an on-going basis from the time they are elected, right? Congressmen and women on both sides of the aisle do this from the moment they are elected. Moreover, EVERY president campaigns like this. It just seems more abundant because many major contributors live in Los Angeles, so he visits here more often than he does much of the country.
Um, no. Obama does nothing but campaign. That’s it. Unlike Clinton, who learned to work with Republicans, or Reagan, or who learned to work with Democrats, Obama considers it beneath him to figure it out… and like it or not, as the man at the top, it’s his duty to figure out how to lead everyone else to move the country forward… which both Clinton and Reagan managed to do. One can badmouth the Republicans all the way, but Obama needs to figure it out and SOLVE it, rather than avoid them and just pursue redundant policies that, he knows, haven’t a chance in passing.
So all he’s done is make speeches across the country, blaming others for the country’s woes.
He forgets to mention that for the first half of the term, the Democrats controlled everything, but he has nothing domestically to show for it.
So all he does is campaign, on the taxpayers’ dime, no less.
What the hell is he doing on Leno, when he should be solving the numerous crises facing this country? It’s one thing if everything’s running well… but now’s not the time, unless, of course, he’s only thinking of his own political future and not the country’s future.
And what have his potential opponents been up to lately? Are they the only ones allowed to campaign right now? And what have you been smoking? Obama has bent over and taken it every way to work with the Reps. in Congress, like none other. In fact, his policies have shifted to the right because of his willingness to compromise with them – and they have REFUSED to compromise at every turn. Wake up Hank and smell reality.
I hope you realize that Obama is suppose to raise one billion dollars for his reelection campaign. Now considering that would be the most ever why would he have to start campaigning a year before he is up for reelection?
If he can find a way to get from Burbank to LAX in 12 minutes — he’s done something.
Sigh. I wish I had a helicopter.
Exactly! I mean, it’s not like he helped the country avoid another depression, pushed for healthcare reform, killed bin Laden, ended DADT, was instrumental in the liberation of Libya or ended the Iraq War or anything! He’s been too busy campaigning to do any of that!
Oh… wait…
Elmore, actual facts are wasted on these racist Cons. They are willfully ignorant or hysterically blind, take your pick. If a white Republican president did half the things you describe in your post, they’d be lobbying to add his (and it WOULD be a “he”) face to Mount Rushomre. Cons are deserving only of scorn and ridicule, since reason and logic fails them.
PS @ Hank, Obama is the PRESIDENT. Republicans should be looking for ways to work with HIM, not the other way around. F*** you.
Thank you!
and don’t forget got some financial reforms passed and set up the Consumer Protection Agency…oh wait, they haven’t been able to really start that yet because the NeoCons are blocking his nominee to run it (I wonder why?)…He has also brought some dignity and legitamacy back to America in the eyes of the rest of the world…
Good riddance.
Had to miss a meeting this morning because I couldn’t get to it… Thought I could walk it, but the po po had olympic taped off and couldn’t even cross the street. I hope he stays gone a while. Don’t really enjoy his presence here in West LA.
Goody! I honestly can’t wait to hear what Obama has to say about the important issues facing us since the last time he said them yesterday!
An empty suit talking with an unfunny talk show host is not my idea of engaging television.
Ditto.
Obama and Leno have a lot in common, in fact. They are both Losers with a capital L.
Riiiiight. That “empty suit” who’s toppled four dictators, got Bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri, created more private sector jobs in 2 years (2.9 million) than Bush created in EIGHT (2.8 million), saved the country from a second Depression, saved the auto industry, allowed my daughter to be able to get health insurance for the first time, created a Consumer Protection Bureau, ended one war and is starting to end another, won a war without losing a single American life, has a lower unemployment rate than Reagan had (10.8% under Reagan by the start of his third year), ended DADT, accomplished more legislation for the middle class in 2 years than Clinton and Truman did in eight, passed the START treaty, which Reagan tried and failed to do…oh, but look who I’m talking to. Someone who’s allergic to facts.
For all the things he accomplished, Obama has yet to get us out of the recession nor does he have a backbone. Private sector jobs are just a drop in the bucket, and both Dems and Repubs can’t get anything done because they’re bought and paid for by their lobbyists. (Especially the bigwigs in Hollywood who pocket big money while letting employees go because “they’re not making money”.)
Cry me a river. Because either way, we’re screwed.
If only he had put forth a bill that he could maybe call a jobs bill and it was supposed to breath life into the jobs market… wait there is but ALL republican and a handfull of Democrats rejected it.
Because you can’t raise taxes on the job creators.
Wow never seen so many talking points strung together!
Other than the huge inconvenience of traffic…does anyone really care other than those who can pony up the dough to have a picture taken with the President?
Please, Mr. President, have Hollywood just mail the checks, because coming to LA is no fun for anyone…but, you, and of course, the fast food joint you stop in to remind us all…”you are a regular guy”.
It must be tough to always be the smartest person in any room. To always be thoughtful. To have to be twice as good to get half the credit. To clean up the messes of the worst President in history, who wasted thousands of lives and trillions of dollars over a decade getting rid of a third rate dictator when all you needed was NATO and a few months. To understand that the nation you lead is half-filled with half-wits who will probably never understand how much you did for them. To be the son of a single mother who grew up to be President, the very embodiment of the American dream and still be called a foreigner. To know how much better you are than those who would oppose you. Heckuva job, Barry!
All he does is tie up traffic, ruin our lives and pop in her for money every two seconds. I didn’t vote for him before, and I certainly won’t again. I loathe him
Hope they’re both gone in 2012. Honestly Leno was mildly amusing in the mid 90s to late 90s but he’s been excruiciating for quite a while now. Seeing them together reminds me of last May when Leno BOMBED at the White House dinner.
NBC, I know so many people who don’t watch your network at all – well except for 30 Rock and The Office – cuz Leno’s still there.
Watching that phony is like being water-boarded… and I don’t mean Leno!
Oh boo hoo I’m stuck in traffic because the leader of the free world is here. So cynical. The presidency used to stand for something. We used to be grateful now we’re just a bunch of fucking babies whining and snarking.
The man has done more in 3 years than Bush has done his entire LIFE. Just because he doesn’t wear a cock piece and brag about it with a giant Mission Accomplished banner doesn’t mean he doesn’t get the job done.
The reason he’s kicking ass in Iraq (ending the shittiest war ever), Afghanistan and Libya is because he doesn’t need permission to get shit done there. Unlike here where everything the man tries to do is obstructed by the WORST political party we’ve ever seen.
And don’t give me this bail out/debt/recession bullshit. That was a Republican idea, put into law under Bush. And it failed… jesus I wonder why?
Obama has done a lot of stuff I’m not thrilled with, but at the very least there was respect for the office of the Presidency. Now I know Bush lowered the standards with his sheer ignorance… But at least there was a modicum of respect.
You guys are a bunch of entitled babies who wouldn’t know a fact from a fart. Makes me sick to think this is our nation… a nation of fat slobs who have all these first world problems. Boo Hoo. What if you woke up one day and were forced to fight? Forced to kill? To run into hiding? How much snarking would you do then?
Grab a ounce of perspective and Suck it up for one day.
Babies.
I cannot stop laughing…you so nailed these whiners on the head. Chuckle…chuckle…I hope someday they may find brains and get educated so they can be part of the solution instead of part of the problem…
