Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy rate slightly over Ben Stiller, at least as far as NBC’s Saturday Night Live is concerned. Despite special appearances by Hugh Jackman and Kenny G and a hosting stint from Stiller — starring in the new Brett Ratner feature Tower Heist – the third installment of SNL’s new season was able to average just a 4.8 rating/12 share in metered-market homes. That compares to a 5.1 for the season premiere two weeks ago with host Baldwin and a 5.2 on Oct. 1 with McCarthy presiding. Last night’s numbers could well have been impacted by several rain delays during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Fox, pushing the game’s conclusion far later than normal. Texas wound up beating Detroit, 3-2. In adults 18-49, however, last night’s SNL matched the 2.6/11 generated by the Baldwin-hosted season kickoff.

I thought snl was great like a lil new spice on the stage and I think stiller was great and proved reason for zoolander 2
Show has been consistently inconsistent with the laughs. SNL just needs new blood… That’ll right the ship.
I thought the show was a good one as well. SNL is definitely off to one of it’s best starts in years!
quite bad
This guy is a nightmare to work with, and frankly just isnt all that. And now America has spoken. The numbers dont lie.
Yes, the slightly lower ratings of his SNL episode is surely undisputable proof that America hates Ben Stiller.
Yes, Stiller is a miserable person to work with. But alas, the number of people who can’t stand him in Los Angeles probably doesn’t add up to the dip in ratings.
I think this season has been great so far!
The show had its moments, but it seemed like the middle third of the show hardly featured the host at all – except for a good turn on Update as Derek Zoolander, alongside Hader’s Stefon.
As with many hosts, their SNL appearances are timed to coincide with movie, television, or album premieres. That being the case, “Tower Heist” looks to be a funny 30-minute sitcom. Oh wait, its a movie? Really?!?
(PS – The trailer for Heist gives me no confidence in Eddie Murray’s return, either. His convict character is too broadly played. The 2012 Oscar telecast looks to be a disaster-in-waiting.)
Stiller’s SNL was funnier and stronger than even Baldwin’s, (who I love.) Opening (Jewish) Willy Wonka skit was priceless! I taped it and kept it and will watch it over and over.
Hugh Jackman gave the funniest performance that night.
For years, many people have said SNL stinks, and I’m starting to agree with them. Why Michaels continues with the same people year after year is beyond me. Seth Meyers is simply over his head. Even his Weekend Update is becoming increasingly lame – relying on character guests to pad the thing. Nan Washingtom had to be the worst in a long time. He’s the head writer! Can’t he realize these things aren’t funny?
Ben Stiller is no Melissa McCarthy. Unbelievably bad.
I really like Stiller…
But his turn as host was a complete failure this weekend. He looked tired, dispassionate, uncommitted and confused throughout the whole thing. Unfunny skits made worse by simply not being funny. Sad.
Zoolander isn’t as funny as a male model when he looks 60.
