Jay Leno Gets Big Ratings Boost From President Obama’s Appearance
The live show stage brought the long-awaited ratings bump on The X Factor. The first live performance edition of the reality series last night posted a 4.3/10 in 18-49 from 8-10:30 PM, a series-high fast national result. The show’s premiere posted a 4.2 fast national before rising to a 4.4 in the finals, so X Factor is on track to at least match that when the Live+Same Day ratings are released later today. (UPDATE 2 PM: X Factor rose to a 4.4 in the finals.) Compared with last Tuesday, X Factor was up 10% in 18-49 and 13% in total viewers to 11.8 million. Fox won the night in 18-49 and finished second to CBS in total viewers.
ABC’s Last Man Standing (2.8/8) slipped 7% from its fast national last week (10% from the final), while in its second outing fellow new comedy Man Up was down 21%. The Dancing With The Stars results show featuring the elimination of Chaz Bono posted a 2.5/6, down 4%, while Body Of Proof (1.9/5) was flat. ABC (2.3/6, 10.6 million) was third for the night in both measures.
CBS’ NCIS: LA (3.7/9, 15.9 million) was up 9% for a season high in the demo. NCIS (4.0/11, 19 million) was up a tenth from last week in 18-49. It topped X Factor in their head-to-head at 8 PM and once again ranked as the most-watched program of the night. NBC’s The Biggest Loser (1.9/5) matched its season low from last week. It was followed by another Prime Suspect rerun (1.0/3).

The performances were mediocre accross the board on X-Factor last night. The eliminations wrere predictable and devoid of mystery.
LA Reid only cares about Rap artists, it seems. There is just no buzz around this show right now.
WRONG: X Factor buzz is huge on Twitter. Last night it was on the Trends list and Melanie Amaro, Drew, Josh, LeRoy, Stacy weren’t mediocre whatsoever. Melanie has a powerful voice. A young Mariah Carey.
Twitter is hardly mainstream. Amer Idol was always openly talked about in my workplace. Nobody is watching X-Factor, in fact 10 million less than the average Amer Idol episode. It just doesn’t have any POP, and the judges are trying way too hard. Simon looks uncomfortable and perplexed. We’ve seen the young rapper act endless times haven’t we? It’s tired and not fresh.
So far, I like X Factor much better than American Idol. Better singers and production value. Singers like Melanie Amaro, Stacy Francis, Josh Krajcik and Leroy Bell.
I completely agree with you. I love the production values. I think it is better than American Idol.
I don’t know a single person who watches “X Factor” – who is the audience? My acquaintances who watch “Idol” don’t. My young nephews and nieces don’t.
Well clearly there are 11 million people you don’t know who ARE watching it.
Much better then American Idol. I can’t figure out if the host is supposed to be confrontational or just hasn’t found his niche yet. But every time he interrupted the judges and contestants I wanted to throw a shoe at his face. But the show is great. Watching the judges bicker over each performer is great!
It’s hard to say if it’s “better” than Idol because the X-Factor panel is so dull. Nicole Sherzinger is absolutely terrible and dull as dishwater. The talent thankfully is MUCH better than Idol’s talent last season. Melanie and Drew are clear stand-outs with Melanie’s voice being better than 99% of all previous Idol contestants. The productions is over the top and cheesy BUT it’s more entertaining that Idol’s awkward sit on the stage or walk down to the audience and back the stage we’ve seen for a decade.
Steve Jones was on the one hand a little deer in headlights at the start of the show but on the other not the obnoxious spotlight hog Seacrest is with his painful attempts/failure at jokes.
Ditch Nicole and the show is infinitely better.
Chris Moynihan has the face for radio and the comic genius of a Catskills warm up guy. How much longer are you going to drive people to throw their tvs into the street ABC? Wow. Please put those crappy shows (Tim Allen thing, too) out of their misery. Please.
X-Factor failed just like Google+.
WOW Simon and Paula together again HOW BORING and FAKE it’s so American Idol, been there, done that, so i’ll pass HEY Simon X Factor SUCKS ! you will never beat American Idol in the rating race
The performances in the first live X Factor show were a disaster mainly due to the juges extremely poor song choices and those ridiculous mash-ups that nobody, and I mean NOBODY needed (Dexter singing Womanizer/I Kissed a Girl?, really?, Phillip doing I’m a Believer?). Not to mention the awful handling of their time having Steve yell at the judges to shut up.
It was embarrassing and Idol can rest easily, of all the idiotic things they’ve done in the past, they were never this bad.
