Relativity Setting Business Venture In China
The first of the film projects Relativity Media is making with its China joint venture partner Sky Land is officially underway in the Shandong province city of Linyi. The comedy 21 And Over was written and is being directed by The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and stars Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright. It revolves around two childhood friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his 21st birthday the night before an all-important medical school interview, and the evening spirals out of control. Sky Land, a fully funded production/distribution/financing entity, is a partnership with Relativity, SAIF Partners and IDG China Media that was formed in August to “create movies which will be appealing to both Chinese and western audiences alike.” It also formed an alliance with the Chinese government-sanctioned Huaxia Film Distribution Company, making it easier to navigate the often difficult bureaucratic path for foreign entertainment companies. Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman and producing 21 And Over with SAIF’s Andy Yan and IDG’s Hugo Shong, in association with Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced. Some shooting already has been completed in Seattle.

So, The Hangover.
but younger!!
This is a GREAT project! It was, in fact, the top-grossing comedy of the summer…when it was called “Hangover II.”
I wonder what the PRC’s Ministry of Culture censors will do when it’s time to stamp the co-production certificate in furtherance of their stated mission to uphold the cultural values of ‘The Great Leap Forward.’ (You GO, Li Peng!)
Just sayin…
(Also, just to get things goin’ with the ‘bridge-and-tunnel’ Tea Party-ers…I AM A HOLLYWOOD LIBERAL AND I SUPPORT HIGHER TAXES AND INCREASED SOCIAL SPENDING AND THE RIGHT OF BOYS AND GIRLS TO MARRY OTHER BOYS AND GIRLS, AS THEY CHOOSE! LET ‘ER RIP!)
I don’t get this project. I thought the projects coming out of these ventures were supposed to have some Chinese elements or cultural stuff in them? Is this just a way for Relativity to get easy money out of China?
IT’s POLITICAL.
Sky Land is a scam. Deadline should investigate.
The Hangover = Dude Where’s My Car.
21 and Over = Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
i don’t get it… is the drinking age even 21 in China? how does this have any relevance to a Chinese audience?! Are the friends out drinking in China? Are they shooting China for US? weird…
Why don’t you guys just chill and accept the fact that Ryan is just smarter than all of you.
Ummmm….this movie was the worst set I’ve worked on, two of the main male leads…(not Chon) were the biggest most disrespectful brats I’ve ever worked with!! Sad that “Hollywood” causes people to believer their own hype….dude please!! Can’t call the success of the movie as of yet….left a really nasty taste in my mouth!! Yuck!
