Ryan Phillippe has landed a regular role in the upcoming season of the Glenn Close courtroom drama Damages, reports our TVLine colleague Michael Ausiello. Phillippe will play a “Julian Assange-type character who turns to Ellen (Rose Byrne) for help.” It will be a 10-episode arc on the series that now airs on DirecTV with shooting in New York City for its fifth and final season. This will be Phillippe’s first regular TV gig since he played Billy Douglas on One Life to Live back in the early ’90s. He was courted for a guest role in Starz’ Torchwood: Miracle Day but declined.

Reese’s child support not enough?
Something else very few people will see him in.
I’m a seeing wrong or is Ryan cross eyed?
Nice…Damages is outstanding. Season 4 was amazing. I expect/hope for Emmy love next year, but thats a long wait..same with Breaking Bad
Damages is too good for this douche.
He’ll nail it. Recently read “Inside WikiLeaks” by Domscheit-Berg and Phillippe will totally be able to capture the essence of Assange.
You know, they usually have such great character actors on the show, but I have to say I was disappointment with Len Cariou as the Bernie Madoff patriarch. That role needed a stronger actor.
He’s really branching out these days… He’s producing films too and now back to TV.
good for him
Good choice. He was amazing in Breach with Chris Cooper. Im looking forward to him on the show. Stir it up a bit.
I’ll look forward to that. I think he’s underrated. Nobody plays an evil preppie better. He’s got a sophisticated air, so I can see him as an Assange type.
Julian Assange? Meh. The best choice for a Damages season would be News Corp wiretapping. Like that’s ever gonna happen.
Good call, get it. But really, that would be awesome. And they could be defending celebs, and News Corp-like bad guys could tap both Patty and Ellen, and possibly hack some photos of them in embarrassing positions.
Damages 1-3 was fantastic…I kept DTV and didn’t switch to U-Verse in order to see Season 4.
What a mistake! The storyline (Blackwater) was weak, and the production values were terrible. Plus, there was very little legalese and even less court-room drama.
It was obvious the budget was about a tenth of what it was for the earlier seasons.
Frankly, I’m shocked to find out there’s another one on the way.
You do realize that there has never in the history of the show been what you call court-room drama on this show, right? Damages is mostly about the lawyer’s investigation of the case – the rest (the actual trial) is more or less the uninteresting part the writers of this show leave out and to the imagination of the viewer.
Personally, I found Season 4 to be really exciting. I’m not to big a fan of Ryan Phillippe but I also don’t hate him. He’s a fine actor – they could have chosen a lot worse.
I agree. I loved season 4. Every season has me hooked. Similarities of season 4 to Homeland.
Obviously they want a character (and actor) who doesn’t have one foot in the grave so they can attract an audience not a member of AARP.
Phillippe is a pretty good actor. Anyone who’s seen Breach or Little Boy Blue would know that.
I really like Damages. I look forward to watching Season 4 on Netflix.
Thank you.
Ryan, go for it! You are a fascinating guy, a liberal in everything you do! You, are not fake, you are just real, that’s way people cannot stand you, when they are just jealous, because you are just real, no pretense, like most people in Hollywood, but you can also be smug, naturally too, when you really are and sweet, when you really ARE, you are so genuine with your kids too, you are a Fascinating human being, very complex! This choice is good, you reach out to ordinary people, but in fact, being so close to us, you will have the chance to be among us more often, you will be loved even more! Come among us, on TV, the producers have made a good choice picking you up as their favorite!
You are my muse, my dream artist and Adonis, always, do you feel the love, Ryan?
Only interesting thing is that he and I could be identical twins from my post high school days thru my 30′s early 40′s. I am now in my 60′s and if he makes it that far you should feel sorry for him. Looking at him during various times of his life is like watching home movies . Kinda creepy!
