After 4 solid showings, Showtime has picked up conspiracy thriller drama Homeland for a second season. Production on Season 2 will begin in the spring. The project, from 24 alums Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, was the first major piece of development Showtime’s entertainment president David Nevins brought to the network. It sailed through the pilot stage and earlier this month launched as Showtime’s highest-rated new series (helped by a big Dexter lead-in.) In its first week, the drama starring Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin, was seen by 4.4 million viewers across various platforms. What’s more, the series has increased its overall viewership since the premiere, with its most recent episode on Sunday hitting a series high. “Homeland is just getting started,” said Nevins. “Clearly, the overall audience growth from week one to week four demonstrates that this show is hitting a nerve in the cultural zeitgeist. Alex and Howard have created a psychological thriller that holds special relevance in the post 9/11 world.” Based on Gideon Raff’s Israeli series Prisoners Of War, from Keshet Broadcasting, the Fox 21-produced Homeland tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Nicholas Brody (Lewis), a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed dead for eight years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. Along with Gordon, Gansa and Raff, the executive producers for season one are Avi Nir, Ran Telem and Michael Cuesta.

Great news for a great show. Now that Breaking Bad has finished its season Homeland is the best show on television.
I hope Damian Lewis does more American mainstream movies from now on and becomes a bigger star.
Great news!
I love Homeland, but still miss Life!
Show threads the needle between network accessibility and cable depth.
I think it will be on the air for four to six years.
Best writing staff on television.
So happy to hear this!
Nevins is killing it and doing so quietly and elegantly. HOUSE OF LIES is next and -wow- was that script good. He’s building smarter, classier, and more relevant television from a fanbase that Greenblatt started, and inching them towards new standards for “culture” while offering a real threat to his competitors out there. There will be a new tiger at the table come Emmy time. AMC and HBO be scared, be very scared!
This show is fantastic and intelligent. Can’t wait to see what happens in this season and the next.
Ive only seen the first ep so far-does it get better? More action? More nudity from Morena? Hope so, this took a long time to set up, and needs some juice, esp with the people from 24 behind it!
Yes, there’s more nudity from Morena. Hubba.
Such great news. This is such a high quality show on every level, acting and writing particularly.
Amazing news! Best show on tv right now.
So wait.
The bomb doesn’t go off at all this season?
Nothing actually happens?
How many Years do we have to watch this guy before he does the deed?
I thought this was a mini-series.
Have you watched 24? That’s pretty much the jist of the show, so it’s not surprising to see it repeated here.
You know it I know it and the american people know it is a bad ass show
Looks like Showtime hasn’t missed a beat since Greenblatt opted to sink into the NBC quagmire. Good for Nevins. Good for Showtime!
This is good news. HOMELAND is a well-written show, but requires attnetion and time commitment on the part of the viewers. Similar in tone to AMC’s RUBICON, it deals with real-world issues we are dealing with today.
HOMELAND’s critics cite a similar pacing issues when The SOPRANOS was in first-run. Not every episode had a “whack-of-the-week”, although that’s what a lot of people wanted to see. THE SORPRANOS and HOMELAND draw three-dimensional characters. Good guys are flawed and villians have good qualities. Not black and white.
Good insight. In today’s era when drama is dead on the silver screen, Homeland is phenomenal and under the direction of Howard Gordon, truly the thinking man’s 24 minus the sanitized demands of serialized network television. Claire Danes totally brings it with her character we can all root for, and after the events in episode 3 this is my new favorite show.
Also highly recommend Starz’ Boss which invites comparisons to the form of The Sopranos and discourse in The Wire. Perhaps too early to tell, but the pilot was phenomenal and is also one to watch.
Hitflix critic Alan Sepinwall is offering terrific insight and analysis that enhances my enjoyment of both shows.
Homeland is an awful show.
Agreed, Roger. I find it ridiculous that the CIA in Covert Affairs is more believable than in Homeland. Why is it that the average cop on Law & Order is less trusting than the entire supposed CIA? Snooze.
“Homeland is a terrible show.”
Just one question, why on earth would you leave a comment like this? It brings nothing to the conversation, and is an opinion contrary to the majority of critics, who like the show, as well as the people commenting here, who also like the show. I, myself, think the show is well written and good quality. So to say it’s “awful” doesn’t quite make sense. Empirically, it certainly does not seem to be awful, as you claim.
Maybe you could define “awful” next time, otherwise you’re just a typical troller who sits back and shoots off at the mouth with nothing to back it up.
Best new show. Excellent writing, acting – what a great combo: Danes/Lewis.
It such great news that we will get to see more of Homeland. Fantastic show, interesting characters, intriguing plot and there is always something new every week… Great news for tv!
Great news!…Hoemland is the best show on TV and should be nominated for an award!…..like Hugh Laurie and his American accent, Damien Lewis completely fooled me with his…I didnt know he is British!!….AMAZING SHOW! and so glad it has been renewed!
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER! THIS SHOW WAS SO BLOODY AMAZING. EVEN BETTER THAN BOARDWALK
THANKS SO MUCH
Yay! I became addicted to the show since the premiere. Can’t wait for season 2!!
A superbly scripted and acted thriller, with smart dialogue, modern and up to date with accurate background…Danes is super slick and you can clearly see her acting skills whilst immitating the illness she is scripted with…maybe a nomination coming her way? thoroughly enjoyed the first season, and a clever end line from Danes, creating a thirst for more,at the same time leaving no doubt as to the topic of the first episodes in series 2, this will re-run many times….super super show…
Geat show!! Ms Dane rocks in this show and Mr. Lewis plays a great double agent. All of the characters plays of each other very well. Ms. Baccarin is very hot and sexy.
