Film/TV star Melissa McCarthy hosted Saturday Night Live tonight, one of many firsts for the actress who’s on a post-Emmy roll. SNL wasted no time reuniting her with her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig:

Another reason why SNL continues to be awful. Fat chicks who think they are funny = comedy death.
She was and is funny. You are not.
I find it hard to believe that Melissa McCarthy is not funny. Winning the Emmys recently should explain that. It simply mean that people love her, both ways – on and off cam and SNL is not awful my friend.
Melissa is a genius. Stop hating.
If you want to take issue with Seth Meyers being the least funny public figure in America, reducing the episode to 90 min. of fat jokes, and presiding over the worst writing in SNL’s storied history, you have an argument. But McCarthy can do no wrong.
That whole episode was just painful watch – and I actually usually enjoy SNL.
Horribly unfunny. McCarthy just showed her one-joke comedy style, and it stopped being funny halfway through Bridesmaids.
Melissa, you’re fame clocking is at 14 minutes and counting…
M&M is frickin’ hilarious. Please go be a fattist elsewhere please.
I thought she was actually really funny, definitely better than last weeks with Alec Baldwin.
She did an amazing job. I laughed so hard at the salad dressing sketch I was near tears. Bravo, Melissa!
Clearly if you think Melissa McCarthy isn’t funny, you have zero sense of humour, or you didn’t see Bridesmaid (she was the funniest in a very funny movie). She doesn’t *think* she’s funny, she ACTUALLY IS freakin’ hilarious.
I think McCarthy was the funniest host SNL’s had in ages, and clips from at least three of her sketches will make the “best of” reels for a long time. She threw herself (literally) into the physical stuff with total commitment, and delivered her lines with acute comedic timing. She’ll be back, and I’ll be watching.
Ugh’s comment is a little rough but somewhat true. Last night’s show completely unfunny! Coming off of the funniest installment in years with Alex Baldwin. Further orris of the host being the anchor, and weak hosts causing weak shows.
You’re an asshole, ugh! A true asshole. Not “assholish,” or “asshole-like” or even “asshole adjacent.” But a true asshole destined for the Asshole Hall of Shame. CBS, Hollywood, and a great majority of America see Melissa McCarthy first and only as a funny woman. She will go far—a lot further than you. You Mr. Asshole are destined to leave nasty comments on an entertainment web site. How sad for you, your friends and family. Now that we have established who you are and where you are going—now go fuck yourself!
Actually pretty good- for SNL… amazing!
But so poorly framed, photographed, camarework etc – pull out so we can see it MFs!
Why is this funny? Is it because I never saw “Bridesmaids”?
I don’t get it.
You don’t have a sense of humor is my best guess…
Melissa McCarthy could barely catch her breath walking out on stage and that salad dressing sketch has been done 1000 different ways in comedy sketches over the last 50 years.. and probably in vaudeville for decades before that. The Chris Rock parody was kinda funny but the show was pretty thin on comedy. It’s been quite awhile since the show generated genuine laughs. I am getting older but rather than a comfortable old friend, the show just feels painfully dated.
I’ll never think of Hidden Valley Ranch the same way again. Melissa McCarthy is a comedic gem and I hope SNL has her back soon.
Best host of the season so far, truly wonderful.
Sounds like a couple folks should be sitting in the “The Comments Session” chairs and need a little talking too.
Loved the intro with Kristen and Melissa. Bridesmaids rocks!
She was amazing. She was so obviously riffing and doing improv and almost making the cast crack up. She’s a star people. Learn it.
What a fantastic send up of the 40s, 50s and early 60s musical variety acts, with the same sassy repartee. McCarthy reminds me a bit of Pearl Baily with her self-deprecating humor, and Wigg plays off her magnificently.
If you “don’t get it”, watch a few of the old movie musicals on TCM, or show it to your parents. This was very funny, but is probably “too old” for many viewers.
Worst episode of SNL I’ve seen in a long time. Were the regular writers on vacation? MM was horrible.
Amusing. On par with most SNL openings I’ve seen. Really don’t watch SNL too often, unless Timberlake is hosting.
Annoying that they got the shadow dancers in the wrong boxes… pants wearer on wrong side… that shouldn’t have been hard to get right. Sure it’s a minor thing, but I noticed. Actually it would have been funny if they didn’t use dancers, but somehow projected stick figures on the shadow boxes.
Okay so she’s not for everyone. What comic, or comedian is?
I find this bit quite funny and her to be refreshing. Her mixture of innocence and raunch (a sweet spot not everyone can tap into) is adorable.
Love to see Melissa McCarthy truly enjoying her moment!
I think she’s going to win an Oscar for Bridesmaids.
Best SNL in a looong time. MM knocked it out of the park. It really shows when the cast has good chemistry with the host. That Ranch Dressing sketch was bonkers.
I’m not overweight with kids, so I don’t think this host is for me.
Wow MM’s fanbois are rabid. Aparently she’s some kind of sacred cow no one is allowed to criticize. Whatever! Oh and for the record McCarthy is one of the most overrated, tedious bores to be in film. *yawn*
