Sony Pictures has organized a memorial for former studio head John Calley, who passed away last month. Here are the specifics:
Friends, family and colleagues who worked with and loved John Calley will celebrate his extraordinary life and career on Wednesday, October 19th at 4:00 pm at Sony Pictures Studios. RSVP’s are required by Friday, October 14th to (310) 244-4142. Parking will be accommodated in the Overland Parking structure. All guests should enter through the Overland gate for directions to the celebration.

I will be there in spirit and say a prayer for John and his family. Some colleagues and I once had a pitch meeting with him many years ago about an animated feature version of “Gulliver’s Travels”. He was attentive, erudite and gracious. God rest, Mr. Calley.
I was extremely fortunate to learn much from Mr. Calley, while in film school, during a seminar on a long Saturday afternoon. He answered everyone’s questions, without any glibness. Very matter of fact; right to the point. Even shooting down a few of Hollywood’s sacred cows in the process. For that much alone, I am indebted to him. More of today’s supposed Hollywood turks and elite would do much for themselves, all of us creative forces and audiences alike, if they learned and followed much from Mr. Calley.
My prayers and thoughts to his family.
