Will Hollywood Book Biopic Of Steve Jobs?
As a tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who died yesterday, TNT will preempt its primetime lineup for two back-to-back airings at 8 PM and 10 PM of its 1999 original movie Pirates of Silicon Valley, the only film to date that portrays the technology innovator. It follows the race between computer rivals Apple and Microsoft and stars Noah Wyle as Jobs, Anthony Michael Hall as Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Joey Slotnick as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

It’s been a long while since I’ve seen the movie, but didn’t it depict him in a fairly negative light?
I just watched this last week, and it did pretty much depict him as a guy who stole ideas, bullied his employees, and wasn’t willing to take responsibility for his first daughter. I know that’s just one part of the story, but maybe that’s why I didn’t feel as bad as everyone else when I heard the news yesterday.
Remember though, this film came out right after Microsoft bought a large percentage of Apple stock. Before iPod, iPad, and even the iMac, Steve Jobs was well known but nothing like how influential he became in the 2000′s. I have always really enjoyed this movie as it shows how important Business acumen is even with cutting edge technology.
He was not influential in the 90′s? You must be kidding all of us. He and Woz created the PC industry starting from ’78, Jobs was influential even back in the 80′s especially when the first Mac came out. I bet you are relatively young or don’t know much about the PC industry at all.
A great, very respectful move. (For non-Apple obsessives, Jobs’ gave the film a very public wink by having Wyle, in full mock-turtleneck regalia, give a fake open to the following keynote.)
More than that, though, the film is simply very good, fun and interesting, and was a real high-water mark for TNT’s late 90s run at high end telemovies. Proud to own it on DVD, and I hope someone sees fit to do a Blu-ray reissue. I’d have no problem double-dipping.
Ha, respectful? It’s a tribute? Did you actually watch the movie? It did not depict Jobs in a positive light.
Just because it’s a very warts-and-all story doesn’t mean it was either unfair or didn’t give him his due. (And yes, I own the DVD. And I thought Jobs came off better than Bill Gates did!)
Bill was not like that in real life. The only thing that resembles to Bill was the glasses …
Is this tonight? Starting at what time? Details!
It’s airing at 8:00 pm EST with a repeat showing at 10:00 pm EST, so my guess is it will air at the same times on the west coast.
The movie although depicting some negatives about Steve Jobs still shows him in the end being considered a major force in Silicon Valley. Truly creative people are often thought of as tyrants, Walt Disney was often spoken of by his employees as being a “great guy” and then followed up by being a bit of tyrant…it was Walt’s way or no way. Disney employees so respected him they wanted to help him achieve greatness and in doing so achieve greatness themselves. Without the negatives it couldn’t possibly be truthful, look at the Biopic movies of Ray Charles or Johnny Cash without seeing some of their faults how could we possibly believe these movies to have truths…whose life other than Mother Teresa is devoid of negatives?
Jobs liked the movie abd Noah Wylies depiction of him
Note to staff: you didn’t say when TNT was airing this film. Is it tonight? This weekend? That info would have been beneficial.
I thought Jobs looked human and Gates looked worse. Excellent acting by both leads and an excellent TV movie generally.
As a nightshift employee , I missed the TNT broadcast, would like know if there will be any other broadcast on the Week-end,
