As predicted here, Warner Bros completed its acquisition of domestic rights on the Steven Soderbergh-directed Magic Mike, which stars Alex Pettyfer and Channing Tatum in a Saturday Night Fever-type coming-of-age drama about a young exotic dancer who is schooled by a veteran of the trade. The studio just dated the film for release on June 29, 2012. Soderbergh and Tatum funded the film, and FilmNation is selling offshore territories at AFM. The script was written by Tatum’s Iron Horse Entertainment partner Reid Carolin, and they are producing with Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs.
The film, based on the world Tatum observed when he was a male stripper, has a beefcake cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez and Kevin Nash. Warner Bros recently released Soderbergh’s Contagion, and is prepping his next film, The Man From UNCLE.

A lot of good looking actors there. But, where are the good looking black guys. I’m very social and around a lot of actors and models. I’ve seen several hot women who have there pick date good looking black guys, Hispanics and even Asians. I’m sure there are strip clubs that don’t just have white people.
They couldn’t even put a token black guy in there. It looks like a strip show for Hitler’s wife.

Sounds like a smart move on Warner Bros.’ part. Actually not much of Tatum fan, but inside buzz on this film is off-the-charts. I guess we’ll see how real it is soon enough.

This film is racist, man! Where is the diversity? Where are the men of color? I can’t believe that in 2011, with a black man as President of the United States, we can’t get a movie about hard working strippers and gigolos that features at least one black, Latino, Jew, Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander, Arabic or Eskimo actor! This is outrageous!!
If you scan the imdb listing you’ll actually see that two of main guys (one of the main dancers and the club dj) are both Latino!
Racist? More like realistic. There is no need to shoehorn ethnicity into every film. I’m almost 40 years old and I only have one black friend, and he hardly ever hangs out with me or is interested in doing all the same stuff as I me. We enjoy the same type of music (not rap!) and the same type of movies (Horror, Sci-Fi, Action) and we work at the same place. That’s about it.
Folks today seem to think they have to turn movies into a damned ‘Colors of Benetton’ advertisement. No you don’t. When you have a group of people all doing something, there doesn’t have to be a black person or a hispanic person thrown in with them. If there is, hey fine with me, but don’t do it just because some ethnic group thinks you have to. Do it because it’s natural. It’s like having a film based in the 1700′s and having a black character who isn’t a slave or indentured servant. It makes no realistic sense.
Well played to Tatum who has been wanting to make this film for some time, some of which is based on his real life before he hit it big.
None the less, it’s strange to notice the amount of things he has in development, and based upon that, it wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that he’s actually one of Hollywood’s most powerful actors.
Which is strange, considering his body of work is, well, quite ordinary.

Don’t get it. There are interesting scripts out there. Why does Soder always have to play it either avant garde or main stream. He’s lost his way.

This is the smartest thing Channing will ever do. Definitely a Must See. Gigantic free press. The daytime woman’s shows will do nothing but talk this up for weeks. At a $20M price tag, this will make oodles. Look for “Mike gets Magicier” in 2013.

YUMMM… Now if there was a way to sub out Matthew McConaughey and sub in Henry Cavill, I’d prob be even more excited about this. I think this movie is going to sell like crazy. Don’t underestimate how much women like to see a hot naked man on screen! There was a reason Sex & The City did so well on screen!

Although I can agree that I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like Idris Elba in this movie, I am a black woman who is perfectly fine with admiring Adam Rodriguez. No this doesn’t have to be “Colors of Benetton” as some ignorant, ahem, I mean misguided comment said and just because some people never see a full spectrum of colors doesn’t mean all of us don’t. To me, fine is fine and these brothers are ALL fine. I will be first in line to view the eye-candy. I can’t wait for this to come out in June.
