EXCLUSIVE: At Universal Pictures, there is so far no movement on another Bridesmaids, but the studio is moving to the altar on another wedding-themed comedy sequel. Universal has set Malcolm D. Lee to write, direct and produce Best Man 2, a sequel to the 1999 film. Lee wrote and directed the original, a comedy in which a writer (Taye Diggs) is preparing to be the best man for his football player buddy (Morris Chestnut), but the timing is bad because the writer’s autobiographical novel is about to pop and it describes how the best man bedded the bride. Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Nia Long and Sanaa Lathan also starred. The original grossed $35 million. Lee’s plan is to ask the original cast to reprise; in fact, I’m told the whole idea came out of a reunion dinner he held with most of the cast members, and they sparked to the idea of a re-team and so did the studio. CAA reps Lee.

The first one only cost 9 mill to make, and was a word of mouth phenomenon! So the gross was quite impressive. Not surprised AT ALL that the second was greenlit! Can’t wait to see it!!
Don’t you mean Spike Lee, let us not forget no Spike no Tyler.
The original movie “The Best Man” was very good writing.
The movie was execellent in that it opened ones eyes to a
lot of details of everyday life. Not only marriage, but also religion, friendships, relationships, and opportunities that we deal with in day today life. The cast of characters were very influential people.
The cast played their parts so well that they actually became their
characters. I truly enjoyed the movie and I have been waiting
for the sequel. Let’s do it again and even better than before.
I was an extra in the first one would be great to be apart of this one too.
You know what? I would really love to see a Loves Jones sequel!!
I would love to see this..as far as Tyler Perry goes, he needs to sit back and watch the real black filmmakers work..Malcolm Lee and Spike Lee don’t get the praises they deserve but yet we as black ppl will sit and watch Tyler Perry’s mess..he has given blacks a bad look..the hell with Madea and Brown..im sick of this coonery and bofonery..
Why don’t malcolm D.LEE Tyler Perry, and Spike Lee all just work together
Why is it necessary to slam Tyler Perry? I like Tyler, F Gary Gray(the Biker Boys, The Italian Job) and Malcolm Lee. There are but a few of us making quality movies in Hollywood and they are constantly being told that white audiences will not support movies with black casts…in fact some would rather not see any blacks on screen at all…take the so called angst some expressed about the black character Rue. In the Hunger Games. All of our brother and sister directors and producers are important. We need to support them so that they can continue to show us our stories…for they are important.
This is bullshit seriously tyler perry does not need to be attacked for making a excellent career he is a wonderful actor and director best man is a wonderful movie and part two would be nice but don’t discredit mr perry damit
OMG, I cannot wait. This is one of my all time favorites.I lost track of how many times I have watch the original one. Love the cast. Counting down the dates, to wait, for a movie date
