EXCLUSIVE: So here it is on the occasion of United Talent Agency’s 20th year in existence — in black and white, the result of 2 years of re-branding, unveiled at the start of
the tenpercentery’s Ojai retreat. I like its freshness. What do you think? (The old one really sucked.) The new visual identity was created as part of an overall branding exercise conducted by strategic branding firm Siegel+Gale. “We were after an identity that more truthfully captured the essence of UTA today and better reflected the value we place on our clients’ creativity and our own expanding global footprint,” Jeremy Zimmer, UTA managing director, said in his statement to the agents. “We believe our new identity reflects how we’re different and how we seize opportunities for clients in a radically shifting marketplace. We love our new look, and we know it will carry us far into the future.” I remember when this tenpercentery was birthed in the Neiman Marcus men’s department, a union of Bauer Benedek and Leading Artists. Ah, how quickly they grow up in Hollywood.

Eye catching logo.
You’re joking right? That’s the ugliest, most insignificant logo I’ve ever seen. And I’m not exasperating. It totally sucks.
they should have hired my 4 yr old daughter to do the logo would have come out the exact same.
looks like an album cover from the early ’90s.
it looks like a logo for a hair salon
or a snowboarding company
Cue the laughs and insults.
I’m more interested in what an agency does for its clients. There are some great agents over there — Julien Thuan, Jason Burns, plenty others, and then there are some agents who have lost their drive and fire. Not naming any names, but the town knows exactly who they are.
I’d like to see a Black List of agents
Get rid of the former endeavor agents
You can get a younger people to do the same job for half the price
Hideous. Truly hideous (graphically speaking). That logo says “nothing” except that the graphic designer pulled an Emperor’s New Clothes move by selling the agency on a logo that they’ll surely be replacing before too long. Suckers!
You know that’s not what happens in The Emperor’s New Clothes, right?
I’m a UTA client and I love my agents, but this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. What a waste of time and money.
it’s different. i like it.
i’m as cynical as they come but me LIKEY
FAIL
You sure you didn’t mean “EPIC FAIL”? Cause that zinger is never used!
Some great agents over there (Ramses, Mike, Milana, Etc.). I got to say I like the logo. Artistic not just sharp edges and flash. Considering the art collection in the offices, I am not surprised at the choice.
They paid for that? Not sure what the message is? We can’t afford color?
So UTA’s rebranding is suppose to reflect immaturity and child-like innocence? It looks like someone’s 4 year old finger painted the logo. It looks utterly rediculous.
I agree. It reminds me of the pictures that elementary school kids make in art class that you feel obligated to put on your refrigerator.
Writers and Artists has the best logo.
and look where it got them!
I’m also a client and I think it’s great.
It’s sure better than the WME logo which (perhaps appropriately) gives off a snakey, evil corporate vibe. I guess the brush stoke is trying to say they are more artistic with that human touch (maybe appropriately??)
I guess they could no longer afford color advertising. Terrible logo, rivaling the first one from WME2.0.
That logo is laughable. Having hired firms to do logos in the past, I bet I know what happened. After seeing hundreds of possibilities, those in charge made a decision to go with something, anything, even though they had serious doubts. No one wanted to say, let’s just forget it for now, and keep what we have. We can wait for the right logo. Hopefully, someone will have the courage to say it stinks. Hummm… agents… courage… maybe not.
Dear Just Look At It,
I have done logos for many entities, and marketing as well including The Burbank Studios (Warner Bros./Columbia), Universal Studios, Paramount Studios, and Sony Pictures Studios and Culver Studios (when owned by Sony). Most were marketing, but some included logo branding.
I think for the money and time UTA spent…this logo is not memorable. But, UTA management did introduce a logo which is more client/business friendly. And, it is easy to see how this logo satisfied that goal.
The problem is that most agencies lack human courtesy and, in many cases, do not PROPERLY represent their clients often by not even responding to valid requests. Yet. some agencies TRULY do watch out in a most professional way for their clients and treat inquiries with a courtesy that their clients would expect, and in reality, are paying for.. but, unfortunately, these agencies are the minority.
UTA has definitely chosen this logo to step away from “slick graphic branding” to communicate a more personal touch.
What UTA missed…was doing this really well. As stated in the beginning of this post…this logo is not memorable…but, I can see why it fulfilled UTA desires to communicate a more client friendly environment.
It ain’t great…but, it ain’t bad either..but, most importantly as a brand…it is not memorable in any way.
My unbiased opinion, I dig it.
Zen-like…hence the simulated brush strokes
Well, it’s not terrible, and certainly better than the WME logo Element or the new Miami Vice one
If UTA were primarily a film or television production company – hell, even a management firm – I could buy into this flippant, “aren’t we hip in our non-chalentness” approach to rebranding their identity…but they are neither of these things. And while it’s not nearly as terrible as the chemistry equation that was the WME2 logo, I have a feeling they too will be revamping it soon enough. For now, it looks right on par with Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Fuzzy Door Productions’ title card you see at the end of the credits…
It DOES say something. We’re small and at the bottom.
To me, it makes me want to say “Uta”, as in Uta Hagen. Do they want us to call them Uta now?
I’m back….Like it!
love it! very zen……very connected…very new…..
I think it would have been better if it didn’t have the brushtroke element. If it was just fluid.
I like the fluid design, but the brush strokes won’t translate well to other graphic applications. Looks messy. Keep the fluid design, clean it up and it’ll look fine.
