EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has set Drew Pearce to write Sherlock Holmes 3, continuing the Guy Ritchie-directed series that stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The deal will soon be sealed with Pearce, who is currently writing Iron Man 3, which will also star Downey.
This development comes even before the opening of the second installment of the franchise, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which bows December 16. The film focuses on the battle between Holmes, Watson, and their nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Jared Harris plays that role, and Noomi Rapace joins Rachel McAdams in the sequel. Pearce also did some writing on Pacific Rim, the big alien invasion film that Guillermo del Toro is about to begin shooting in Toronto for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pearce is repped by WME and Warren Dern.

lemon entry
Love it! Keep bringing on the Sherlock Holmes stuff. Love the directing as well. Yes, Downey Jr. as the Thin Man and he may do Perry Mason. A fun story is a fun story, no matter the genre.
Holmes is a much more like a Serial,
and so far it’s a pretty darned entertaining one.
First of all, I would like to say that the second Sherlock holmes was brilliant. I don’t know what genius said that it would be a bomb becuase it sure wasn’t. People should think first before they speak. Isn’t that what your mother told you? Anyways, I just saw, literaly, and it was fantastic. Obviously going to be a third one and can’t wait.
This SH is more believable than a stuck up Brit smoking a pipe. He’s exactly what I’d imagine an eccentric, brilliant detective to be like. I love this adaptation. And I agree with the rest- Rosie O’Donnell, really?
2 is one of the best movies i have ever seen
I don’t get all the hate. It’s stated in the books that Holmes did box, so of course he would know how to fight.
I love the movies. I love Robert Downey Jr. I thought he did an excellent job in both films, and I would love a third!
He and Jude Law have such good chemistry which makes me love them as Holmes and Watson.
To each his own, right? Like it or hate it, doesn’t matter to me. I happen to love it. Just don’t give me hate on it.
I would like to have seen sherlock holmes take on jack the ripper that would have been cool
wow sherlock holmes 3..robert downey jr unusual
to the person who put this stop smoking crack
This is awesome!
I cannot wait for Sherlock Holmes 4 and 5 next! Could we then maybe get a 6th one, too? Oh, and then after the 6th one, a reboot starring Shia LaBoof as Holmes and Jonah Hill as Watson where they team up with the Avengers to stop these evil wizards from attacking Hogwarts with Harry Potter!! AND THEN THE ALIENS AND PREDATORS SHOW UP TO FIGHT THE DREAM THIEVES FROM INCEPTION!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever! the 2nd one totally rocked. Whoever thought it would bomb is living in a world of their own
I saw SH2. IT IS AWESOME! It’s very cool that he fights Moriarty. This one is even better than the first. Robert Downey is f funny. In this one Sherlock is finally out witted(by Moriarty of course). And the end is very funny! I cam’t wait for SH3! I hope it’s gonna be as awesome as the 2nd or even better!
Maybe there will be a SH4 and 5. I hope that there will be! Because 1 and 2 are FANTASTIC! Cool action and fighting stuff! And very funny movies! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw it twice already!i don’t know why critics gave it such bad reviews, it was one of the best movies of the year, better than the first one even. Noomi is a great addition to the cast.
Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 were amazing! How can you say that the second film will be crap? For one, I’ve seen it and honest to God, it’s freaking amazing! Secondly, Robert Downey Jr does a better British accent than some so-called actors these days. I mean come on, who isn’t going to go and see a film which is hugely popular among the ages, has two EXTREMELY attractive male leads, and is filled with comedy, action and adventure? By all means hae your own opinions but don’t judge it if you have no interest in it.
Umm I saw sh2. It’s probably one of the best movies out there. If u actually get wats going on, it’s very interesting.
I think the first and second Sherlock Holmes movies are brillant. Do make another one.
I love both of the movies so stop being stupid critics that don’t enjoy anything and realize that not every movie out there sucks
Two should be a logical stopping point if the film results in the end of J.Moriarty. However, if there is a third. There is always A.Lupin to give Holmes and the good Dr. Watson a new game.
U don’t know if Moriarty is dead. It’s said that they never found the body. Maybe he survived like Holmes did.
Well, Col. Sebastian Moran is for sure still out there and still a threat. He would be a lethal villain for #3, and he would probably be out to avenge the death of his employer, Moriarty. It is too bad Moriarty is dead, although anything is possible. Could he have survived? And I’m not totally buying what happened to Irene Adler either — all we have is a sound effect and Moriarty’s word for what supposedly occurred. So who knows what could happen in #3? Hope it’s as fun and inventive as the first two!
1: I said that Moriarty may still be alive. They never found his body. It’s a VERY big chance he survived like Holmes;
2: Indeed, Col. Sebastian Moran is for sure still alive, and ,maybe, he rescued Moriarty from that waterfall;
3: Maybe Irene Adler is still alive, but I rather doubt it, because before that sound effect she wasn’t very steady on her legs. So, u don’t have just a sound effect and Moriarty’s word, thought I think he might have lied to Holmes to make him feel sad and discour
discourage him.
Was awesome! when is the 3rd one?
Seen both movies, with mixed feelings. IMHO both this Holmes and Watson have rather little in common with the original Conan-Doyle characters, but that doesn’t bother me too much: if I couldn’t stand anything but the originals … well, they are readily available in my library (and a good reading is still worth 100 movies anyway). But even if the script took liberties with the two core characters, both movies are – again IMHO! – nice and well done products. Actually I liked SH2 better than the first one: Holmes looks less like a raving lunatic (even if still with plenty of lunatic streaks!), this fascinating roguish version of Watson gets more space, and the villains are simply *great*. Guess I’ve never seen or read a better Moriarty ever, and Moran is the mindless and deadly beast that you figure reading the novel. possibly the setting is just a bit too cyberpunk, but an historically accurate Victorian setting and the exact depiction of the original literary characters would probably be a monumental bore (or possibly even repulsive) for all but the most historical-minded public. Moreover, any Sherlock Holmes depiction would draw comments of “well, it’s not exactly like the real-one” … so the script writers were smart to be so bold, making it clearly “their” own version of Holmes, instead of an unworkable imitation of Conan-Doyle’s one.
All told, I think that this almost-Sherlock-Holmes product is as a whole a nice one, close enough to the original to be somehow acceptable by the purists, and close enough totoday “storytelling” standards to be acceptable by the casual users. I will not hold my breath for a SH3 … but will be glad to see one.
All just IMHO, and with all the due respect for other opinions.
Sorry, I intended “possibly the setting is just a bit too steampunk” … not cyberpunk!!!
Sometime in 2013. I can’t wait!
)
First of all, before you even start degrading the movies, consider this; have I read the original Holmes short stories? Do I know what I’m talking about? Am I posting negative comments to make myself feel better about my own shortcomings? Am I using proper spelling, grammar and punctuation?
If you have considered all of these, great! You may have a valid argument! If you have not, you should go crawl up in a hole somewhere and stay there for a while.
Omigod I really hope Irene’s still alive!! She’s just too good a character to let go of if you know what I mean… I hope Moriarty lied!
Yeah, me too! It would be so cool! And as I said, there is a small chance Moriarty lied, although, if he really did kill her he possibly did it because she loved Holmes, she knew to much about Moriarty and he was afraid she might tell him. But I hope he lied too! Who knows what might happen in the 3rd Sherlock Holmes?!
