CBS’ 60 Minutes tonight aired a remembrance of Andy Rooney, who died on Friday. It’s by veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer, who interviewed Rooney only a month ago, when the 92-year-old made his final appearance on the venerable newsmagazine. Safer said that Rooney died after “a brief illness” and called him “America’s favorite grouch in chief” who “had the special gift of speaking for everyman.” Here is the entire segment:

Sad news for us who loved watching and hearing what he had to say on 60 Minutes.
There are commercials in this video! CBS placed commercials inside Andy Rooney’s video hommage. I’d say this is cold, shameful and so on. But if your are stupid enough to do this, you would not understand anything about respect, politeness or humanity.
“I’ve complained a lot here over the year…” Yes Andy and you were right to do so. And in the end, all that you complained about seems to have won…
I think we will miss the people who have told us the truth more than anyone else… they are an endangered species…
“…miss the people who have told us the truth….”.
Yes, Rooney — a self-described liberal — told us the “truth” as liberals saw it. Why can’t you people on the left keep your political opinions out of this? Rooney was a brilliant satirist in the mode of Robert Benchley and should be remembered as such. In his years with CBS he usually kept his political opinions to a minimum.
he was a commentator. it was his job to offer up his opinion and sometimes that touched on politics. I’d feel sorry for you idiots on the right, except you have MORE people on the right offering up their brilliant ideas on AM-talk radio and you have a whole network dedicated to pushing a conservative agenda — so I think you’re covered. while his liberal leanings came through occasionally, he still managed to piss groups on the left off frequently, and more often than not, his pieces were about things which needed no political slant (e.g. why do they put cotton in medicine bottles).
Since when is truth liberal? Man, dude, you’re a little touchy, huh? Ring for the nurse — or the guard; it might be time for that little pink pill.
I thought it was cheesey. They should have given him at least a full segment if not the whole hour.
When I heard Rooney was going to have “minor surgery” I figured this was going to be the end. The fact he retired and the family won’t say what the medical condition was was suspicious.
