ABC Announces Midseason Premiere Dates: ‘GCB’ In Post-’Desperate Housewives’ Slot
2ND UPDATE: I have learned that Sony Pictures TV, which produces Pan Am, is yet to agree to the 1-episode offer from ABC and negotiations between the two sides about the fate of the show continue.
UPDATED: ABC has given drama Body Of Proof an order for 3 additional episodes. Meanwhile, new drama Pan Am will wrap its freshman run with one extra episode, bringing its first-season order to 14 episodes. The period drama remains technically in contention for next season, while new comedy Man Up! will end its run after completing its initial 13-epispde order. Body of Proof, starring Dana Delany, came into its second
season with a 13-episode sophomore order and 5 episodes in the can leftover from its freshman midseason run, so the network already had 18 episodes on tap for this season. Last month, ABC picked up 2 extra scripts, which now has been followed by a 3-episode order, bringing the series’ sophomore total to 21 episodes. While not as hot as it was last spring, Body of Proof does a credible job in the Tuesday 10 PM hour. Man Up! joins previously canceled new drama Charlie’s Angels. Meanwhile, freshmen Once Upon A Time, Revenge, Suburgatory and Last Man Standing and sophomore Happy Endings all received full-season orders.

“Man Up!” isn’t great. But “Last Man Standing” is worse. Oh well.
Totally agree. I got through episodes of Last Man Standing and jsut gave up. Simply put, it isn’t funnt. The jokes play off lame sterotypes that weren’t funny a decade ago.
I’m a little confused about Body of Proof. I have the DVD for season 1 and it includes 9 episodes. So that means season 1 had a 14 episode order if 5 were left over? Anyways, I’m happy it’s getting more episodes. Sucks that Pan Am is only getting 1 more episode, but I get they need to make room for Good Christian Belles.
you are correct. Body of Proof premiered so late last year that they had extra episodes in the can that they’ve peppered in this year. And the show is growing on me
Here here for the average medical drama!
That’s not fair. There is far worse crap on.
Pan Am is getting better with every episode! This last one was the best so far. I really hope ABC at least gives it a full season to pick up momentum. I’d be so disappointed if it was canceled. It’s more than a nighttime soap which is all about bed hopping and cheating and sex… Pan Am is about how exciting, glamorous and adventurous flying used to be! It’s about beautiful women that had to speak a second language, have a college degree, some kind of medical training and know how to cook a steak five ways! lol Yes, they used to cook t-bones for the customers. It’s a lighthearted drama and it’s just plain fun to watch!
Blah blah blah…canceled.
Oh, that’s a really nice comment. What JMC said is exactly what my mom and her sisters like about the show. And cancelled has two L’s.
Actually, smarty, it’s spelled both ways; most commonly with just one ‘L’ in the U.S.
Stay on topic.
Pan Am bores me and I don’t care if it stays or goes.
Yeah, I guess there just aren’t enough explosions and car chases to hold the attention of the ADD crowd.
Not necessarily. It may just go on temporary hiatus. That’s happened to other shows. It’s not looking good, but I’m still choosing to look at this glass as half full.
How can Sony not agree to make another episode? what the hell is going on with Pan Am, can someone please make an actual decision, about the shows future, not just wuss out and leave the decision for another time.
I’m amazed Pan Am lasted as long as it did – the pilot was unwatchable. Looked expensive, probably too expensive to produce if the numbers weren’t there.
I was watching Body of Proof because of Dana Delaney, but even she couldn’t hold me past the middle of October.
Remember when ABC got lucky with “Lost”? Luck is all they have over there, and lately it’s bad.
I think the math for the Body of Proof episodes is one off…
Body of Proof received a 13-episode order for Season 1, but only 9 episodes aired – leaving 4 left over. Season 2 received another 13-episode order + the 4 episodes left over = 17 + the 3 more = 20!
yes, but if you put it through the quadratic equation you still get the same result:
Body Of Proof = poop
I think Pan Am could have been a big hit, the actresses are great and beautiful and the idea could have taken hold and been a long running show. But…the writing stunk. Are there REALLY not more talented writers out there who could take an idea an shape it into a dramatic and well crafted series? And why did they wait until it was too late to bring in a show runner who could handle it?
Exactly right. Interesting concept with a lot of viewer appeal and it just crashed and burned from epically bad writing. As one British website put it, “craptacular.”
Man down.
What an awful, dated show. But then again, there’s ‘Whitney’ on the air.
Pam Am will be gone if they don’t agree to the one episode order.
Congrats to the great “Body of Proof”. For the naysayers, well, it’s probably a grade or two above your reading level and you just don’t understand what’s going on….”Spot. See Spot run. Run Spot Run. Take a shit, Spot, in the old lady’s hat.” Ha Ha Ha! That you got, right? Meanwhile, please ABC,please continue programing for people with a brain.
Thank you, Secret Agent, for your endorsement of BODY OF PROOF. I had long ago given up on the quality of network TV until, earlier this year, I was hospitalized for a few weeks. The TV at Lenox Hell (misspelling intentional) in NYC deprived me of all my favorite cable stations and only offered the network programming. I grit my teeth as I sampled all the putrid network shows – with one glorious exception, BODY OF PROOF! The excellence of the writing (combining intelligent personal dramas and complex whodunits within a mere 42 minutes is a feat unheard of), the Emmy-worthy central performance of Dana Delany (ABC should be applauded for their bravery in casting a 55-year-old actress–and quite a dish!–in a weekly hour-long series), and the first-class production values are superior to most of the bloated current theatrical films moviegoers are finally avoiding. I was elated to read that the latest episode of BODY OF PROOF surged 11% in the ratings, and that the network has ordered more episodes to complete its first full season. There’s a lesson to be heard here, and I hope all of the networks are learning it.
Leaving aside the merits (or lack thereof) of specific shows….
Could someone at Deadline please did into how the studios and showrunners are handling these bizarre incremental orders? Right now the networks are coming off like insecure stock brokers who are telling you to sell and then buy ever fifteen minutes.
Cable companies (and new players, like Netflix, which offered up a two year commitment on HOUSE OF CARDS) seem like fortresses of solid steel with their long-range commitments to their shows when compared to the Networks.
I understand that the money is still better at the networks… but is anybody on the production end going to keep committing to the hot/cold habits of the ABC? Could we get some feedback on that?
“Could someone at Deadline please dig into how the studios and showrunners are handling these bizarre incremental orders? Right now the networks are coming off like insecure stock brokers who are telling you to sell and then buy ever fifteen minutes.”
Ain’t it the truth. What can the nets hope to accomplish by this? For example, PAN AM needs a lot of work, and one episode isn’t going to be nearly enough to turn anything around.
THANK GOD MAN UP IS FINALLY CANCELLED!
I can finally keep my TV on ABC after LMS.
Seriously, Pan Am seriously needs to go as Charlie’s Angels was 10x better than that damn show.
Pan Am isn’t getting helped by airing just twice in the month of December…12/4 and then on Christmas night as this show needs all the eyeballs it can get. With the 5 scripts order and this additional one, it just seems like unless they turn the whole concept of the show around and just maintain a proper focus on what it wants to be overall and there is stronger writing and acting, this show will be one and out on ABC. New timeslot and day could help as well.
Pan Am would have done better if had been moved to Mondays after Dancing With The Stars. Castle would have kept it’s loyal viewers if it had been moved to Sundays after Desperate Housewives. Why didn’t ABC see this… when my friends and I all thought it was obvious? Pan Am could have also been put where the failed Charlie’s Angels aired.
Anyway… to the poster who stated that the pilot was unwatchable. It wasn’t unwatchable to 13 million people (approximately). The pilot wasn’t great but it was hardly unwatchable. Everyone has an opinion… but over 5 million people still watch it (not to mention all the people who DVR it). The show was getting better each episodes… ABC just refuses to move shows around to find an audience. Desperate Housewives didn’t do Pan Am any favors.
Once Upon A Time: Best show on TV!!!
you know 2 shows this year cast their creators in the leads, and I wonder if either show would have connected better with audiences if they had put better talent in instead. First was the badly mis-cast Nick Hornsby in “How to be a Gentleman”. Then it was Chris Moynihan in Man Up. His is just not a face for TV, sorry man. I would fast-forward his scenes and the show got a lot better.
Body of Proof does decent numbers ? HAHA good one
Body of Proof had 4 left over season 1 epsodes not 5. So season 2 had 13 episodes, a 3 episode pick up and 5 left overs. 13 + 4 + 3 =20. So season 2 will total 20 episodes.
the show seems ok, but producing/screen writing skills are lame. notice how quickly each person is wearing a blue glove at every crime scene? well, look at how the so-called “now dirty” gloves (after they have touched up every dead body)are still on the hands of all of the investigators (each time they answer their cell, when they are driving, when the women investigators pick up their handbags or touch their faces!) yuck!
who the hell really does that with some nasty gloves used while fiddling up a dead bidy??? Producers need to work harder at making the show the reel deal and not a hurriedly/half-assed remake of all the other similar drama series (with all the same theses and all the same racial types as the stars) that are currently on the air. (Bones, Criminal Minds, etc. etc.)
when is season 3 of body of proof, the best show on tv
Please keep, “Body of Proof.”
Thank you,
Brenda
Body of Proof is the best show I have ever seen in my life and Dsprerate Housewives! Both because of Dana dealny and if Body of Proof is canceled I will have nothing to look foward to in life!
PLEASE HAVE A 3RD SEASON !
