IM Global will fully fund Hummingbird, an action drama that will mark the directing debut of Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight. Jason Statham will play a damaged ex-Special Forces soldier trapped in London’s criminal underworld, but he becomes an avenging angel when he is able to assume another identity. Shooting will begin in London early next year. Paul Webster and Tracey Seaward are producing. The film is budgeted at $20 million. “We had a great experience making Safe with Jason and we’re excited to team him with a director/producer team as sophisticated as Steven, Paul and Tracey,” said IM Global CEO Stuart Ford. The film has already sold in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia and Australia.

Wow, Statham’s never played anything like an ex-Special Forces soldier in an action movie before. Good for him for breaking the mold and taking some chances…
Oh wait, my bad, this seems like his last 20 films. Think I’ll skip it.
It’s so good to see Statham’s random movie generator is working so well. I’d hate to see the guy get typecast.
You are completely ignorant. HUMMINGBIRD is an amazing script, written by Steven Knight, who wrote EASTERN PROMISES and DIRTY PRETTY THINGS. It is a “drama” NOT an “action drama”. Stop being a hater!
stathem – is one role actor. but i hope be better.
One should view him as a businessman not an actor
He has a winning formula and he’s sticking with it.
Dumb comments- if this site was up in the early Seventies you’d be complaining how Steve McQueen only plays really cool guys in action roles where he doesn’t talk much. What nonsense.
Except getting on for forty years later Steve McQueen is still, for many, an idol and one of the greats. Will anybody be able to say that about Statham? One is the real deal, the other’s a male model who got lucky and is wearing out his welcome. Or didn’t you see Killer Elite?
