Amanda Seyfried, currently in theaters in Andrew Niccol’s In Time, has been cast as Linda Lovelace in Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s movie about the infamous porn star, Lovelace. Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations to play her husband Chuck Traynor, the pornographer who coaxed her into becoming an adult film actress. Lovelace went on to appear in Deep Throat, one of the most famous and all-time highest-grossing independent movies. She subsequently quit porn and divorced Traynor. The script is by Andy Bellin and W. Merritt Johnson, based on the book The Complete Linda Lovelace by Eric Danville. Partners on the project are Millennium Films, Eclectic Pictures and Untitled Entertainment. Eclectic’s Heidi Jo Markel, Animus Films’ Jim Young and Untitled’s Laura Rister and Jason Weinberg are producing. Millennium’s Avi Lerner is exec producing. Actors previously attached to star were James Franco, who starred in Epstein and Friedman’s Howl, and Kate Hudson before she became pregnant. Filming on Lovelace is expected to start in January.

Wonder how this version will compare to “Inferno.”
Am I the only person who just doesn’t se any purpose in this project. I mean a porn star biopic? Really? Ugh.
It may not mean much to kids today who can find porn for free on the internet but to older people who actually remember the “old days” it could be an interesting movie.
Plus, kids today just assume porn is a “way of life.” If they do the back-story well and remind people of the way things “used-to-be” it could also be an interesting history lesson.
Nope – you’re right. Porn is mainstream now, so there’s no taboo attraction. Without that, no one cares about this or any other porn story. Also, big mistake for Seyfried – she’s making some bad choices.
Don’t do it, Amanda. This won’t help your career. Fascinating and genuinely sad story, but mainstream Hollywood movies about the porn industry (or with heavy sexual themes) don’t work commercially these days due to too much free internet porn. No-one cares. Boogie Nights was made a LONG time ago.
LOL – I was just about to say the same thing. Great minds think alike. She should run like Kim Basinger did with Boxing Helena, and she made the right decision, cuz BH was awful.
I thought “hooker with a heart of gold” won the Oscar, not porn star.
Only Lohan can do this role. Only Lohan understands how you end up a common prostitute by following the desires of those you love.
Well played, Joe. I was going to make a snarky comment, but can’t top yours. Just had to say.
it’s not really a joke, lohan was attached to the other project at one time. Get out of this Amanda, theses Millennium make junk and are total frauds who are being sued left and right.
Gulp! another loser project by Millennium.
I for one applaud Amanda for signing on to this movie and will see it many, many times.
Men.
I’ve got to start putting on a crash helmet before reading these things – they’re lethal to my consciousness. I keep waking up on the floor drooling with chipped teeth.

Very sad…She’s a sweet girl…this is a career killer.
Just like BOOGIE NIGHTS killed Heather Graham’s career.
Heather who?
Nice try.
It seemed from the trailers of In Time, that she was trying to ditch cute for an attempt at sexy. Which is tossing out a sure thing for something you hope will work. Career suicide may be the right call.
schwing!
First CHLOE and now this. She’s a total pornstar. Yippee!
More actresses need to embrace nudity and sex.
I heard she sucked at her audition.
If its anything like Seyfried’s last few movies…it will be a POS, she chooses horrible movies
This ia such an unappealing story and in the end, she dies tragicly. Who wants to watch that? Wasn’t Lindsey Lohan supposed to do this mess? UGH.
Career Killer Supreme.
I’ll definitely be watching this. I hope they don’t pull a Soderbergh, and wuss out when it comes to the nudity. Steven Soderbergh loves making movies about sex, or implying that his movies are about sex (Full Frontal anyone?) and then balks at showing any type of nudity.
The Girlfriend Experience was unwatchable. He cast a legit porn star in the movie, then has her talking about he economy for 90 minutes, and is afraid to show her body for more than 5 seconds.
If you’re going to do a movie about sex, do it right, or don’t do it at all. I want the director of this film to go watch Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In, to see how it’s supposed to be done.
Alot of these intellectual types are horrible when it comes to shooting sensuality, and there’s a reason for that. Intellectuals don’t know how to FEEL. How to get their audience to FEEL something raw, and carnal, and primal. Nobody wants to hear a porn star or hooker having intellectual conversations. They want to see and hear her do/say interesting things. Provocative things.
I’d love to see what Almodovar, Adrian Lyne, Larry Clark (10 yrs ago), Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien anyone?) or Francois Ozon (Swimming Pool is one of the sexiest movies I’ve ever seen) would do with a story like this.
I hope this doesn’t turn into another Wonderland, or that piece of shit by Wayne Wang, The Center OF The World.
I don’t know why you would be expecting sensuality in a film about Linda Lovelace. She claimed her husband forced her into born, that her husband excepted money for her to be gang raped. There were witnesses her saw her being beaten on set. She made doggy porn early on. I would expect this movie to cover the depraved aspect of the industry. This was long before women started producing porn.
Why would you expect sensuality from Wonderland? It was about the Wonderland murders. Just because a porn actor was involved doesn’t make it about the porn industry.
The Girlfriend Experience was one of the most pretentious and tedious films I ever saw. Actually I didn’t see the whole thing it was so bad. Lack of nudity was the least of it’s problems. Watching people babble about their stock losses is just very boring.
Not to be mean, but Linda wasn’t a pretty, perky blonde and does Amanda have the chops to act this? it’s dark material and odd casting.
Wow…. A film the entire family can enjoy!
I can already hear the explosions and smell the smoke from the BOMB!!!! this will be. That goes for you to Magic Mike.
JHC…. where are the/ oh, never mind.
This is going to be a arthouse film. Magic Mike isn ‘t going to bomnb. Don’t know what planet you’re on but that’s happening.
Yes, because every film must cater to families.
I’m betting the script is damn good; Merritt Johnson doesn’t exactly suck. Plus Seyfried is a smart one – I dont agree that this is a career killer. Julianne Moore played a porn star and was nominated for it.
look pals a chick needs a job, ok?
love it!
good for Amanda!
can’t wait!
We all remember Roller Girl, but did it do that much for Heather’s career? Julianne Moore showed just the tiniest bit of boob in the scene with Wahlberg and has obviously had a great career. Yet she also went “full bush” in SHORTCUTS…so who the hell knows?
Hard to imagine the Academy nominating this one though as the wives generally fill out the ballots.
After Amanda Seyfried was , probably , turned down for Les Miserables , Seyfried is desperate for an Oscar nomination. I just don’t see this film boosting her Oscar chances. Amanda should be mainly concerned with quality material with good directors ( lead or supporting roles ) and stop starring opposite human cardboard cutout- Justin Timberlake.
@ The Pink Elephant. Laughing Out Loud at your crash helmet comment…
I’m going to go on record and say that I’d have preferred to see Lindsay Lohan in this film.
Yes, she’s burnt her career to the ground, but Seyfried doesn’t hold a candle to Lohan’s talent.
Lohan has a natural ability and command of her craft, along with screen presence, where as Seyfried is merely background brought to the foreground.
Lohan screwed her career, yes. But it would be difficult to deny that she’s actually one very talented girl. Troubled, but still talented.
ummm
lohan & seyfried= ?
streisand & christie = talent
monroe & taylor = talent
davis & hepburn(either) = talent
bollack & moore = talent
lohan & seyfried= talented? really ???
not to be mean, and I think I know what you’re trying to say, but your method needs work
Would you care to support your claim with… well… anything?
Lohan was up for the other Lovelace movie, called Inferno, and was replaced by Malin Akerman. Seyfried is replacing Kate Hudson.
This is probably an attempt by Seyfried to get away from being typecast as the “pretty, perky, blond” as one of the above comments described her. The people behind this movie are talented, but I’m not sure that following three box office disappointments (Red Riding Hood, In Time, and I assume that Gone will bomb in February)with a movie about a porn star is a wise career move. It will make nothing at the box office, and it is probably guaranteed poor reviews, given how prudish most critics are. If it does cover the dark side of the 70′s porn industry, it has a chance to be a good movie, but it doesn’t have much margin for error.
A better career move would be leaving the crappy little third tier agency she’s repped by (Innovative Artists) and moving to a major. Getting a manager would help too. How many actors at her level don’t have a manager? As far as I know, that’s almost unheard of. Poor management (or lack of management) probably explains the career choices she’s made lately.
Who wants to see this movie?
Why is she doing this? How sad. She’s such a talent. She should fire her agents. If she doesn’t now she will when it comes out. I can’t imagine what this film has going for it except scenes that will play for eternity on Mr. Skin.
