SPOILER ALERT! Turn the page for the winner…
Thankfully, it’s not a Kardashian. It’s army veteran and former All My Children actor J.R. Martinez who bested 11 celebrities to become the newest ballroom champion, alongside his partner and first-time mirrorball champ, professional dancer Karina Smirnoff. “First and foremost, I want to thank everybody who voted for us for 10 weeks. Thank you America for believing in us,” J.R. said, according to news reports. Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke landed in second place, while Ricki Lake and Derek Hough were eliminated in the first round on Tuesday night’s show, even after they won 30 additional judges’ points — and the leaderboard top spot — in the program’s first hour. With Ricki out, it was J.R. and Rob who were the two remaining celebs who danced an instant number with their partners for the final judges points.

We don’t care.
Don’t tell that to the 20 million watchers every week…

He can’t tell any of them ; visiting hours at the retirement homes are over.
You need to write someone an apology for how lame that “joke” was. Start with your mother and work your way outward.
Re:Comment by Anonymous “Rob should have won”
Your joking right! Is this Kim K posing as an “Anonymous” LMAO
J.R. Martinez is a former actor on All My Children” and an army veteran who has doing more
for the country than any other celebrity or athlete on the show.
Good job J.R!
never heard of this person
stars means celebrities right?
I am confused
J.R. Martinez is a soap star from All My Children…
At this point, the professional dancers are more famous than the celebrities.
Besides being a war vet, he has had a role on All My Children for the past 3 years. So he is an actor also.
Rob should have won
I do hope your joking, from what i’ve been told J.R & Ricki could actually dance.
I agree – Rob should have won, but I knew from the beginning that JR was going to get the trophy because of his service to this country and injuries he sustained while deployed.
Maybe so, but aren’t we all glad that his loss prevents his mom and sisters from spinning it so the public is back in love with all things Kardashian? It’s bad enough they get a news cycle on his loss.
Yay!
So glad J.R. won! He’s a true American hero!
If you don’t care why are you here?
And by the way JR is a decorated army veteren which is a bit more of a celebrity despite the soap star bit – he is obviously an inspiration to many.
If Rob and JR’s scores were equal – which they were – then JR wins hands down. He was the best throughout.
JR Martinez is more than an actor/star on All My Children (AMC). He is a former Iraq war vet who was severely injured from burns in an attack. His recovery story was so inspirational that he gained popularity because he helped other injured veterans in their journey toward recovery. He was noticed by the folks at AMC and was tapped to play the role of an injured vet, and the rest is history.
I AM surprised that Rikki Lake was eliminated, though. She was a better dancer than Kardashian and was on par with JR at the least.
Oh well, the audience has spoken.
I can’t believe I clicked the link…and actually read it (it was, thoughtfully, short). Just peeking to see if I’d missed something.(I haven’t.)
Have vague recollection of one “Ricki Lake.” She was the first non-celebrity “celebrity,” America created, as I recall, (sort of like this Wendy whatshername person of late. How? WHY? Is that the best we can do today for role models for young women? OMG! (not that there is one…but, you know, literary license and all. BARF! GASP!).
Curious how random lightening strikes. Whenever I see Lake’s name now, my interest wonders immediately to the mundane. A callenge to my intellect is where my mind gravitates (normally), and the farthest journey Ms. Lake’s name inspires is a brief pondering on the origin of her first name (the novelty of which was surely the impetus of her rise from obscurity), and I invariably leave it at wondering if her father’s name was “Rick,” but not even caring enough to look her up on Wikipedia to find out.
The rest or them inspire no thought whatsoever.
A public of 20 million engaging so rapturously with this kind of mindless tripe simply seems a scary first step back on a path leading to mankind’s devolution. Some interesting thought play between the dichotomy of the advancement of AL, and the decommissioning of our cerebral cortex – the mind that was once clever enough to conceive of it. Is technology – that we gleefully embrace, pride ourselves on becoming the masters of – making us lazy, obese, and really stupid? The general population, was, on the whole, better educated in the 18th century than we are today. Are we still “intelligent” enough to save ourselves from intellectual rot and decline, ultimately extinction?
If Tigers have a vote..we’re toast.
I know, those 20 million are the type that would post on a blog with bad spelling and horrible grammar telling everyone how “intelligent” they are and how stupid everyone around them is!
Incidentally, the general population in the 18th century did not allow women to vote, owned minorities, and put people to death for their sexual preferences.
There is no IQ test to vote, and yes, we are toast.
I love how you try to sound so intelligent as you rant about DWTS. You mindlessly clicked a link and read about something you don’t care anything about and then bash the other readers. You love to hear the sound of your own hot air rushing out of the whole in your face don’t you? I also love the fact that you ended your diatribe with a smiley face, weirdo.
I don’t watch the show but I am glad a soldier won. I think I speak for all tigers when I say “You’re a pompous ass.”
By the way, whatever Rikki Lake did to you, let it go.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Are you kidding me? It’s just a fun show-not a comment on society at large. Geez–lighten up. BTW, Ricki Lake is NOT famous for being famous. She is an award winning Broadway actress who got her big break in “Hairspray” and then had a long running talk show. As a final aside, I’m thrilled that JR won–he was awesome the whole season.
Ricki did a great job on DWTS but she has never been on Broadway – marissa jaret Winokur won a Tony for her role in Hairspray on Broadway – the role that Ricki played in the original, non-musical, movie.
What really constitutes a “star”? Perhaps someone who has achieved greatness in some (usually) small way? Someone who inspires or motivates? Someone who reaches inside and pulls out courage and emotion? I agree that many of the so-called celebrities of this and past seasons haven’t fit the bill, but in my mind, J.R. Martinez is a star in every way that counts. J.R. Martinez is a war hero, recognized with a Purple Heart, a survivor of terrible injuries suffered in Iraq, and a young man with an attitude so positive that he has inspired many other burn survivors and those of us lucky enough to have never been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Eight and a half years ago, he was fighting for his life, first in Iraq, and then in hospitals for 30+ surgeries, unable even to walk. Rather than sink into depression or let his injuries define him, he has triumphed in every endeavor. First, he landed a role on All My Children, showing all of us the person he was inside. He has become a motivational speaker active in helping other war veterans and burn survivors, and is a big part of the documentary “Trial By Fire: Lives Reforged” to be released in January, 2012. From the documentary’s description, “TRIAL BY FIRE: Lives Re-Forged explores deeply personal stories of ordinary people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They got burned – first by searing flames, then by painful medical treatments and physical rehabilitation. But overcoming those obstacles is just the beginning of their journey; they are still left with the daunting task of re-entering society. Making a trip to the grocery store, the mall or to school can often be a humiliating and demoralizing experience thanks to a culture that places a premium on physical beauty over strength of character.” That being the case, can you even imagine the courage it took for this young man, aged 19 when his life changed forever, to become an actor, a motivational speaker, named one of People Magazine’s Sexiest Men, AND finish it off by winning Dancing With the Stars? J.R. Martinez is more than a star; he’s a true hero in every way, and I commend him on this win and all the others that will follow.
Oh, and for the record, I’m not a fan of DWTS (more of a Monday Night Football kind of gal), but what J.R. did on that dance floor was awesome! He deserves this award and more just for the way he’s chosen to live his life.
Thanks. Maybe I did miss something.
THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE!!!!!
What a beautifully written comment. It gives me hope that there really is intelligent life out there.
Popularity contest
I was glad JR Martinez won. He was good throughout the season.
If Rob “I’m trying to come out from behind my sister’s fat ass” Kardashian had won, then I would’ve had to conclude the show was rigged.
Anyone born since 1950 watch soaps? Also doesn’t he have seal face?
You forgot to mention…who cares?
This show is definately rigged and has been from the get go. YES, JR is a vet who suffered horrible injuries int he war but so are my brothers and husband and yet they have not been asked to be on the show – and htey have no dance history either. This show is not a popularity contest, it is SUPPOSE to be who came the farthest and as much as I dislike the Kardashian family, Rob defiantely came fromt he back of the pack (I wanted him off the show early on to be honest) and was THE dancer who showed what this show is SUPPOSE to be all about. I was pulling for Ricki becuse she defiantely had the best season – I really am tired of being told that because JR survived and went on to be a soap star that he has given so much more to the country – EVERY man and woman who serves in the military gives to their country – do not tell me that just because this man suffered injuries and then went on to be on a soap that he is deservving of anything he wants and does – My oldest brother is a postal worker and has been since he was 18, with 4 years off for Uncle Sam – he came back from Viet Nam with only one leg and yet continued to deliver mail till just 3 months ago – yes, this show is defiantely rigged and I have watched my last season. Because you are a vet DOES NOT give you special powers or rights when it comes to a dance show.
But what we still don’t know is whether J.R. can dance better than a 3rd grader?
I Think That They May Have Voted On A “SAP” Story Instead Of Dancing Yes what Happen To JR Was Horrible And I Definitely Don’t Wish That On Anyone But I Think Rob Should Have Won He Improved Every Week And Worked His Ass Off And I Think He Deserved It More!
