Anna Kournikova confirmed today that she is leaving the NBC competition series The Biggest Loser after one season. The former tennis pro came on as a trainer to replace Jillian Michaels for the most recent 12th cycle and has appeared alongside fellow trainers Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince. Harper and Quince already are shooting the next season of the series. Here’s Kournikova’s statement released today:
“I enjoyed my time on the Biggest Loser ranch. Although I will not be returning as a full time trainer on season 13, I will always be a part of The Biggest Loser family and my commitment to bettering lives through health and fitness will continue.”

Having Anna Kournikova be a part of the series was a joke. I must confess, though, she was a lot less annoying than Cara Castranuova. Anna never really seemed to have the experience working with others as a personal trainer, so she overcompensated by being overbearing and irritating. That’s a major turn-off as a fan of the show. Bye bye, Anna!
Were you aware that Jillian was a talent agent at ICM with a good body and little to no actual Physical Training experience? Jillian had the contacts, sold herself well and was clearly successful, but Anna has LIGHT YEARS more “experience” with Physical Training than Jillian.
Jillian far-exceeded Anna on this show, but that had ZERO to do with “experience”.
That’s actually totally untrue. Jillian had been training since she was 18 years old. She spent three years from 24-27 working at ICM. Then she left cause she was unhappy and went back to training. She opened a sports medicine clinic at 30 and then went on to do the biggest loser. She writes all about this in her book Master Your Metabolism and Unlimited.
I’d rather see Anna than Gilian…she was a little too butch…Anna at least is feminine and a nice piece of T&A!
I have to agree that Anna was not a great fit for the show. I have really liked Dolvett! Nice surprise. I know they need a woman trainer, but I’m happy with Bob and Dolvett. Regardless, if people change their lives and get healthy, it’s all good!
My best to Anna!
NBC hyped her up. but then why have her on the show?
SHOCKER!!! BL hasn’t cast any dynamic trainers with presence since Jillian. As much as she was aggressive, she knew how to be entertaining. Why is there no diversity with the trainers that are hired???? Are they going to bring on another naturally thin blonde who can barley whisper?
You can easily research Jillian’s lack of credentials and the resulting controversy. Personally her “break em down style ” struck me as psychologically dangerous and came from her need to dominate rather than any empathy for the contestant. Oh, and I took yoga class with her. Someone her close to her (ahem) was teaching and Jillian was barely competent – that she has a yoga video is appalling. Anna K at least has achieved something of note and if she acts like a diva I don’t know why anyone would be surprised. She has a pretty face as well and is a world class talent.
I was astounded to see a renown athlete as a trainer. She offered something different that showed results as well. I would’ve been excited to see what she would do the following season. I loved her tough love approach in making the contestants take ownership. She also wore her emotions on her sleeve, which was nice to see on national tv.
