EXCLUSIVE: Veteran CAA TV literary agent Roy Ashton is joining the Gersh Agency as Partner and Head of the Television Literary Department. The recruitment of Ashton, who has been at CAA for more than 13 years, is part of an expansion plan by Gersh, which has been bringing in experienced agents in different areas as partners over the past year, including Bob Hohman, Bayard Maybank and Devra Lieb in the Motion Picture Lit department and Jay Cohen in the Film Financing and Distribution division. At Gersh, Ashton will be tasked with leading the current 6-agent TV lit department and grow it. The agency, which is very strong in TV on the talent side, has now made beefing up its TV lit roster a priority. “Roy is one of the most respected agents in the TV literary field and will be an exceptionally strong asset to the agency,” Gersh co-presidents Bob Gersh, David Gersh and managing partner Leslie Siebert said. “His experience and relationships will make him a great leader as we expand our presence in this area. Bringing Roy in is the first step towards accomplishing this goal.” It is yet unclear who of Ashton’s clients will follow him to Gersh where he will bring the number of partners to 13. “CAA is a terrific agency and I have the highest respect for everyone I have worked with,” he said. Gersh presented me with a unique and special opportunity to be part of building something great. My goal is to build a competitive TV literary department, Gersh has the resources and has made the commitment to make this possible.”

Great guy, great agent. Congrats to Roy! Sounds like he will be able to build something special.
WOW! Congrats to Gersh. Roy is fantastic
Kate Woods and Tommy Johnson? Who else?
Agreed…have been a big fan of Roy’s for years…Gersh made a good move.
Congrats Roy!! This is awesome!!!
Seriously? Roy has terrible taste.
That is so exciting, not sure what will be more successful, this union or the Kardashian/Humphries marriage….probably the latter.
Congrats!! Gersh couldn’t have partnered with a more talented agent! Excited to see what’s to come.
really? whatevs
One doesn’t return calls. And the other doesn’t get calls. Ashton is a .220 career hitter. Way to go Gersh!
Agreed. This is the agency version of a Washington Nationals signing.
Gersh has tried to beef up this TV Lit department before. They hired Gary Loder from WMA, and that was a spectacular fail. They also hired Golenberg from WMA, and that’s gotten mixed but not sensational results. Interesting to see how this one works out…
-J.
Congrats, Roy. All the best.
Is this a joke?
Yes but at the end of the day it’s still Gersh. And it’s still run by Bob Gersh. And it’s still a pretty lousy place to do business with
Finally he is gone.
Roy was fine at CAA because he was at CAA
and had their infrastructure…he has Not Done it yet..let’s see wish him well..What happens to Dytman???
..What happens to Dytman???
Left CAA for GERSH?! Not too bright.
CAA is a high profile afflatus. They are floundering. They just sold 40 percent of the agency to an investment banker. They are corporate and dehumanizing. It’s a terrible, TERRIBLE place to work. The clients hate it. The agents hate it. End of rant.
Roy was never the “go-getter” type of guy, but joining Gersh proves his incompetence.
Oh my… the hysteria about this announcement almost tops the one about Mickey and Josh going to UTA! Are you kidding? If these guys are the benchmark, we’re all in big trouble.
Congratulations to Roy – one of the good ones. I’m constantly surprised at how mean and nasty commenters feel they can be when posting anonymously.
You all are assuming Roy left CAA. Says who? And btw, Roy has had more clients leave him then any other agent I have ever been in business with. He is simply an awful agent, but I love hanging out with him, good guy.
Any chance Gersh thought they were getting Ashton Kutcher?
BIG loss for CAA. Worked with Roy for many years – great agent. What a win for Gersh!
Roy is a genius. Gersh knows what they are doing.
