In its second week, AMC’s period Western Hell On Wheels drew 3.8 million total viewers, 1.8 million in adults 18-49 and 25-54. That was down 14% in total viewers, 25% in 18-49 and 21% in 25-54 from the series’ solid premiere. Meanwhile, another freshman, Showtime’s Homeland, continues its steady growth. The conspiracy thriller averaged 1.42 million viewers at 10 PM, up 7% from the previous Sunday, and 1.68 million for the night to post its fifth consecutive week of ratings increases. At Lifetime, Project Runway spinoff Project Accessory has averaged 1.1 million viewers in its first 3 weeks, tracking 214% higher than the mothership series did in its first season on Bravo.

After that pilot, there was no need to go back to HELL ON WHEELS.
They shoulda retitled it PHONED IN.
Really? No. You can criticize the script if you want, but the production design and performances were unarguably compelling. Hardly “Phoned in.”
Oh but I’m just a fan, so what do I know, right?…
Acting was fine, aside from the boring lead.
Production design was too much. It’s like watching a hipstimatic print in action. The subject matter does not call for such an extreme look.
I found Hell on Wheels to be entertaining and interesting.
I am looking forward to new episodes.
Homeland, on the other hand, is corny and contrived.
Further, I found no primary characters I “liked” (well, the lead’s boss seemed OK), but I only watched a couple of episodes.
Minor Spoiler Alert.
The female lead character is scum.
On viewing the scene in which she lies to her “asset”, telling her that a quick-response team is protecting her, I stopped watching the series.
I was already on the fence, and the revelation of a despicable lead character was more than enough for me to lose my remaining waning interest.
Best show on TV.

I actually stood to watch the final 20 minutes of Homeland Sunday night. I was so absolutely thrilled the show had the courage to put the narrative foot to the pedal and do the exact opposite of just about every other TV drama, ever.
Kudos – sincerely, thanks!
Really enjoying Hell on Wheels. The second ep was a lot stronger then the first ep.
Homeland is hands down the best show this season. Every episode is a winner but I don’t know how they will top last Sunday’s show.
Why hasn’t the site reported The Walking Dead’s rating since the premiere? I find that quite odd. After it’s record breaking debut you would think they would track how it’s holding.
Homeland is a great show. Claire Danes is rocking it.
Homeland is by far the best new show on TV. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis are excellent!
Hell on Wheels. Why were the Native american indians speaking English? Anson Mount as the lead looks fantastic. Not sold on his acting yet.
That’s because Homeland is the best show currently on television. Imagine if Gansa and Gordon put that much effort into the later seasons of 24? Seriously if this show doesn’t sweep Emmy noms (I’m talking Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, writing, directing, and best drama), then there’s something sincerely wrong with the Academy (well, above what we already know is wrong with them).
As for Hell on Wheels, I watched half the pilot late at night, was decent, mostly thanks to Colm Meany being awesome, but I couldn’t be bothered to finish it later in the week. Dunno, just seems like they took all the common denominators to make a western, nothing really special about it.
Are you kidding ? Only Claire Danes deserve a nom and only because the concurrence in that category is really weak.
Neither Lewis and Patinkin do something Award worthy.
Best drama ? There are Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire who have better shots. Maybe it gets the 5-6th spot but Dexter probably gets a bonus. Battle with Justified I guess.
Writing ? Pretty weak in comparison to other shows
Directing ? Good but not great, depends on other shows
I have really enjoyed the first two episodes of Hell On Wheels, and Claire Danes better win the Best Actress Emmy for Homeland.
The ‘ask me anything’ scene from Homeland went deeper than anything I’ve seen in a spy drama
Happy to see Homeland doing well. As for Hell on Wheels, most new shows drop in the 2nd episode and there is no point in making a big deal out of it yet.
Homeland is awesome. The end.
Agree about Homeland. The last ten minutes of Sunday’s ep was an emmy showreel for both actors!
No info on Walking Dead’s numbers? Interesting…
Down 8%
Still over 6 million watching a week.
Yeah, it looks great…
But if I want eye candy I’ll just look at a piece of art or a centerfold.
Unfortunately, they’ll never make it out of Nebraska…
Please don’t let “Hell On Wheels”…simply a terrible show with bad writing, hurt the overall Western genre..This isn’t a Western…this is crap. .There’s an audience out there just waiting for an epic Western with great characters…with action, murder, intrique. Give us another “Broken Trails’ and we’ll forguive you for this
They’re just trying to find something that could be as good as Deadwood. Hell on Wheels is not it.
I love Hell on Wheels. Episode 2 was even better than the pilot. Strong performances throughout, great cinematography and a compelling plot. This show has me hooked.
Put me in the “Like the show” catagory. Missed the first few episodes, so the “Hell on Wheels Marathon” was a welcome viewing to catch me up on some of the backstory. I don’t get Showtime, so I’ve not seen this “Homeland” ya’ll are talking about.
