CBS has ordered three additional episodes from modestly rated A Gifted Man, bringing the medical/ghost drama’s freshman season to 16 episodes. It is not clear what CBS plans to put in the low-trafficked Friday 8 PM time slot after A Gifted Man ends its run. The network is yet to schedule midseason drama The 2-2, but, judging by how A Gifted Man and Chaos struggled there, CBS will probably think twice before slotting another newbie in the hour. A Gifted Man was the only new CBS series this fall that hadn’t heard about its fate via an episodic/script order or cancellation. It has been averaging a low 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 in the Friday 8 PM slot. But in total viewers, the series starring Patrick Wilson has been solid, most recently drawing 8.3 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest competitor in the hour. Of the other four freshman CBS series this fall, 2 Broke Girls, Person Of Interest and Unforgettable have been given full-season pickups, while How To Be A Gentleman was canceled.

Congrats all the way around!!!
But coming from a guy like Les who has greenlit some of the worst TV shows of the last decade, that’s not a real vote o’ confidence.
Man Up hasn’t heard its fact either.
This article is about CBS shows. Man Up is an ABC series, so why would it be mentioned here?
That would be so terrible. There is nothing on on Friday and everyone I talk to is watching this they need to give it a chance.
You know, I think you are right. I went into this show thinking I would hate it, and I ended up liking it. Patrick Wilson really sells it in his performance. I do think this is one of those instances where they get behind the show and see where it goes.
Serious question here: what is the point of such a small back order? It seems as though if they believed in its long-term potential, they would have just ordered a full back nine, rather than just three.
Moonves Over My Hammy is the funniest moniker ever! If you’re a writer- send a sample of your work to my website!
# more eps is not that much of an encouraging sign. It could be more like Les is simply looking to plug a hole in the schedule with something that is modestly performing. But Friday night is a tough time to fill for CBS – ask CSI:NY.
Great show. Should not be judged on Friday night time slot. All shows have experienced problems with this slot. Only question; why only 3.
However, still confused. Figures and stats are conflicting on almost every website. “averaging a low 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 in the Friday 8 PM slot. But in total viewers has been solid, most recently drawing 8.3 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest competitor in the hour.” Statistics are subjective and open to interpretation depending on your point of view or at the very least what you want to prove! Just look at the recently reported CPI index and inflation rates as an example!
Maybe CBS should realized they may not be able to do better than this show in that spot. It is a good show.
I mean, the new drama they said it had tested bigger than ever with audiences, Person of Interest is getting a 2.7 demo. Then the last year costly remake Hawaii 50 is only getting a 3 demo in the CBS Monday strongest night and around 10 million viewers in a spot CSI Miami was way stronger.
Maybe CBS should get people is tired of the same and realize their times with real hits getting 4 demos is over unless they start thinking creatively .Stop with cop procedurals and even worse with remakes of cop procedurals.
Example ABC and Once Upon a time, a new concept that has turned to be the number 1 hit this fall season with a 3.9 demo.No cops,no guns, no kidnappings. Just a different concept, a new one.
I really enjoy this show…and happy for the Rachel LeFevre (sp?)
addition….If I were to change anything about the show it would be the frequent popping up of the deceased wife….I know that is the purpose of the show in respect to him being “Gifted” I like that, but sometimes I find it annoying…If she pops up in pivotal moments where he is making a decision regarding topic that would be good, but when he is in a room full of people and he’s trying to get rid of her and she persists…I mean really, even “dead” wouldn’t she know that her questioning him in public and making him look the fool answering her would be a bit over the top…
A Gifted Man is a really good show and wish they would just give it a full order. Love the characters and the cast. CBS has not done enough to promote this show which needs a chance. Anyone I’ve recommended this to are hooked!
Ideally I would’ve liked to see this at 8pm on Sundays followed by The Good Wife. They should run repeats of all the episodes in order starting from the pilot, over the holidays or on another day to attract new viewers.
CBS’s “A Gifted Man,” is one of the best new shows with an unfamiliar cast to come along since, “CSi: Crime scene! I love the concept of a top notch surgeon, following the advice of his will that seems to be following the love of his life(?), which is gone. But “Unforgettable!”
I absolutely look forward to watching A Gifted Man. Maybe if it were on later or a weekday, it would get more viewers. 8:00 on a Friday night is good for us boomers but perhaps still a dinner hour for others. Keep it on, please!
A gifted man shold be give an a chance. It is one of the best new shows of the season. The variety of characters is great. There is drama, some light hearted comedy and a little satire. The combination of western medicine along with an introduction into eastern spirituality is refreshing. One can see the emotion shown by the successful affluent surgeon for the patients treated at the free clinc as well as his the patients as Holt Neuro. Family interaction is also a part of the program. There is something we can learn from the series no matter how small it is. Sometimes Anna’s appearance seems like an afterthough which is good.
I think you should bring A Gifted Man back on. It is a very diffrent show and the cast members are great. I think it deals with many important issues people deal with everyday. Give it a chance, very good show.
Loved Jennifer Ehle ever since the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice way back when so came to watch b/c of her. Great show, great acting. Keep it on!
My husband and I LOVE “The Gifted Man” and hope they reconsider and pick the entire season up. All my friends on Facebook love it as well and we think it is one of the best shows on TV!
Love this show. It is my favorite
I love the show “A Gifted Man”. I can’t wait to see the next episode. Where are they? I’ve gone back and watched several of the
episodes over again just waiting for the new ones.
I’ve referred this show to friends and they all agree it’s a great program. Waiting for the new espisodes right now. Keep them coming.
What buffoon canceled “a GIFTED MAN”? There is so much junk on tv and what get’s canceled? THE WELL WRITTEN, WELL DIRECTED, WELL ENACTED “GIFTED MAN”!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the Gifted Man!! I was glad to hear they ordered more episodes. All of the actors are terrific. I can’t wait until Friday to see another show even though they are doing reruns. Thats ok as there are always a few things I missed, ya know trips to the kitchen. Yea for The Gifted Man!!!
A Gifted Man is one of my favorite shows. All of my friends love it too. I record the shows in case I’m out and can’t get to see it. We sure don’t need anymore crime scene shows, and this show seems to have the perfect mix of everyhting. Clearly over 8 million other people agree with me. Maybe it needs more hype..perhaps not enough people know how wonderful it is!!
I find I truly look forward to Friday evenings after a long day at work, and the line up on CBS, both Blue Bloods and A Gifted Man are excellent. In A Gifted Man, Patrick Wilson shows excellent acting skills, and the chemestry between he and Rachelle Lefevre is just electric (god, they are both so darned beautiful), they just have to get together. It is refreshing and unique, but while I was drawn to it initially by the “Ghost” hook, I came back again and again for the acting, and an excellent cast. It is a perfect lead in to Blue Bloods now that it is on at 9pm, but sorry CSI-NY went away to move “Man” into that slot. To CBS, find a good, well acted show to lead at 8pm on Fridays and leave “Man” and “BB” where they are. I’ll be a totally CBS watcher that entire evening.
I think the show started slow,But by the 3rd show I was hooked.
I Love this show. It’s so diffrent from anything on right now and I
Hope it returns for another season.
Explain to me please why on a Friday night they care so much about
the 18 + age group. My husband and I are 58 and 64 and I can tell you we have done our share of stimulating the economy. Why don’t advertisers care about the 50+ age group? I am going to start buying and watching shows that think we’re important.
CBS, please bring back “A Gifted Man”, thank you.
A gifted man is one of the best shows out there today but I read that it is going to canceled … With all the absolute crap on TV today they cancel a wonderful show … I guess thats why everybody is moving to Cable to see well thought out programs instead of the junk thats going to be left on CBS, ABC and NBC … What a shame !!
Bring back a Gifted Man and disgard some of that other crap.
My daughter and I LOVE “A Gifted Man” and we can’t wait for it to return to the airwaves. We’ve tried reality shows and they simply don’t make the grade. When are the “suits” going to realize that adults want GOOD television? Thanks to whomever for ordering the additional episodes. Hope this series gets picked up again for the fall. I’ve told all of my TV-watching friends and they all agree that “A Gifted Man” is well worth the watch.
