EXCLUSIVE: Captain America’s Chris Evans is taking a turn to the darkside. Evans has made a deal to replace James Franco in The Iceman, the Ariel Vromen-directed drama based on the Anthony Bruno book about Richard Kuklinski, a contract killer for the mob. Michael Shannon is attached to play Kuklinski, aka The Iceman, and Franco was going to play his mentor, Robert Pronge. Millennium Films/Nu Image is starting production on the picture next month. Aside from playing the title character in Captain America: The First Avenger, Evans starred in Puncture and is reprising his Captain America role in the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers. He’s repped by CAA and 3 Arts.

Is this bizarro world casting? Franco/Evans as Shannon’s mentor?
Yes. Chris Evans in Captain America was a revelation; subtle, earnest, charming; not one whiff of the douchebagery he oozed in Fantastic 4. The kid is actually quite good, glad to see him getting cooler parts.
Yes! I can officially scratch this from my can’t wait to see list.
Yea I have deffinately been waiting for this movie for about 20 years now. If I had’nt seen the test scene for this movie I would probably agree with most of you who believe that the roles were miscast. I mean the should have gotten John Carroll Lynch to play Kuklinski throw a beard and stache on him and he is Kuklinski. But the scene was so good you could actualy feel the fear and paranoia in it. I believe the actors chosen will do just fine, except they should have kept Michael Wincott as Robert “Mr. Softee” Pronge
Shannon is currently my favorite actor. Just keep him away from small children and expectant mothers.
Shennon – two fingers up. amazing actor.
@whatup, I’m glad you were the first post. I haven’t read the script but had the exact same reaction.
This all sounds good until you get to the Millennium Films/Nu Image part. They manage to attract great actors with hefty sums of money for loser films.
Franco is the same in any role, and despite his James Dean’ish looks, he has all the charisma and acting talent of pocket lint… so I’m glad to see Evans who (as HappyDance put it) is “subtle, earnest, charming” take over his role.
I’m calling it right now… Oz: The Great and Powerful will be a monster flop with (and because of) Franco in the lead role.
I’m calling it right now…Oz: The Great and Powerful will be a MONSTER MONSTER HIT, because of James Franco in this epic lead plus the rest of the excellent cast.
We shall see who is right??? Remember, some people were wishing Rise of the Planet of the Apes would fail. I wonder what happened there…..mmmmmmmm!!!!
Franco is extremely pretentious and talks about himself in the third person too much for my tastes. Also, not very talented.
MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm Not very talented… You are right, anyone who can play James Dean and win a Golden Globe, star in Pineapple Express, Howl deserved an Oscar nod, Milk deserved an Oscar nod, receive an Oscar nod for 127 Hours and in my opinion should have won, steal the scenes in Date Night and Green Hornet, star in a movie with Robert De Niro in City By the Sea and be the only star in the movie to receive an award nod for Best Supporting Actor, give a great performance in Rise of the Planet of the Apes has no talent and that’s just a few movies noted.
What planet do you live in??? We just have to disagree…
Fantastic news for Chris Evans, I’m sure he will be a great replacement, I wished it was James Franco playing the part but hopefully, James doesn’t pull out of The Night Stalker.
Glad you keep such an eye on James francs career spaghetti, little too close. You sound like a stalker instead of someone who’s opinion holds weight. Though really none posted here do
There should be more headlines like this concerning Franco. In fact, they should just create a generic headline like ‘Fill-in-any-actor replaces James Franco in fill-in-any-movie’. I’d be the first person in line to see those movies. I agree with FrancoSpaghettiO that the Oz movie will FAIL solely because Franco stars. Go back to one of your schools, James, and learn a different trade.
“Millennium Films/Nu Image is starting production on the picture next month.”
It’ll be interesting to see if this actually happens now that Maggie Gyllenhal’s rep just confirmed she’s pregnant. Depends on the actual shooting schedule I guess, and how pregnant she actually is.
Ooh, can’t wait to see it ! Another movie with C.Evans, I’m so glad ! I loved him so much in “Puncture”, before this movie, I didn’t realise how talented he is.
Shannon/Evans = Jackpot
Everytime I see a picture of C.Evans, I got in my head the song of Two harbors “Free Now”… Don’t ask me why ! http://www.deezer.com/fr/music/two-harbors/make-it-alright-1192294
i actually dont get it if chris have replaced franco for the respective role then franco’s out or he’s just bagged some other character in the movie or he’s just lost the role. I saw a lot of sites james franco is very much in the movie he is playing Marty. Is it true ?? do u guys have any info?? coz i’m dying to see both this hotties together in a film.
