Cable’s longest-running animated series South Park is headed for the 20-season mark. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the no-holds-barred animated comedy, have closed a new deal with Comedy Central for three more seasons of South Park. The pact will keep the series on through 2016, extending its run to 20 seasons. Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, as they have since the series’ premiere in 1997. “The collective genius of Matt and Trey knows no bounds,” Comedy Central’s president Michele Ganeless said. “Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight South Park fans, and that includes all of us here at Comedy Central. We’re thrilled that the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman will continue through 2016.”

The well has dried up…the latest two seasons have stunk on ice.
You’re crazy. This is one of the few shows that keeps getting better year after year.
I disagree with both of you. Seasons 7-9 were the high point of ‘South Park’ and these days it’s hit-and-miss.
That said, when it hits, it’s far better than anything Seth McFarlane or the Simpsons team churns out these days.
Surprised that they wouldn’t stick with Broadway but still glad that we’re getting three more seasons.

South Park was and remains the best animated comedy of all time.
The last episode was a metaphor for how Matt and Trey are bored sick of this show. So how are they going to fake it for 3 years?

They are so much more talented than McFarlane it’s crazy. Also while the show isn’t at the level it was from 01-05 or so, it is still very watchable, while “the Simpsons” has been unwatchable for well over a decade.

Southpark is still the best show on TV. We are lucky to be privilege to Matt and Trey’s genius for all these years.
Not to nitpick but you say “Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, as they have since the series’ premiere in 1997.” Actually, in the early years, they had a full writing staff. Episodes are credited to Dan Sterling, Andrew Borakove, Dave Polsky, etc. They decided a staff isn’t for them and took over writing it all themselves (with a day or two of brainstorming from a small staff) a couple season in.
