EXCLUSIVE: The Closer veteran Corey Reynolds is moving to the broadcast side with a talent holding deal at NBC. I hear that Reynolds, who spent the past seven seasons playing Sgt. David Gabriel on TNT’s flagship drama The Closer, was offered to reprise his role on the upcoming spinoff Major Crimes but opted not to join the series starring Mary McDonnell. For his role on The Closer, Reynolds shared 5 drama series ensemble SAG nominations and received an Image Award nom. Reynolds, managed by New Wave, made his Broadway debut playing Seaweed in Hairspray, which earned him a Tony nomination and led to Steven Spielberg casting him in the 2004 film The Terminal, which marked Reynolds’ feature-film debut.

Great guy and crazy talented. This is one of those holding deals which could actually work.
I am the biggest Corey Reynolds fan on the planet. I am so very sorry he isn’t joining the Major Crimes case, but I understand. Corey I wish you much continued success. You are fabulous and I for one will miss you! Good luck in your future endeavors.
I bet he smells the John Wells/Easy Rawlins project. Nice move.
He would be perfect for that role. Hopefully NBC actually gives it a pilot presentation.
I AM PROUD OF COREY. MSAY ALL HE DOES TURN INTO GOLD!!!!
Wow. This is a serious loss to the ensamble of Major Crimes. Hopefully he can still do guest spots every now and again. Best to him in his future endevaours.
Dammit! I hope this announcement does not prove to be a spoiler for the series finale. Otherwise we now know who the leak in the department is!
Oh darn. Good point. Hope he isn’t the leak and does come back for guest appearances.
I’ve been feeling like he’s the leak for months.
I’ve read that someone beloved will be killed off the series. The first one that came to mind was Corey. Then I thought Tenney (Fritz).
Either way, these last episodes will be sad to watch. But, I would not miss it for the world. ??
It won’t be fritz he and commander taylor will be doing guest spots on Major Crimes. I hope it will be as good as the Closer. Please don’t kill off Brenda.
i feel they should have killed off commander taylor.i didn’t like the way he treated cheif johnson and really hate him on major crimes he treats mary mccdonald the same way he treated chief johnson.i sure wished corey would have went to major crimes
Good point…that would be a major blow!
Wow..your right it must be him..that makes me sad..:0(
Corey is one of the nicest, most hardworking people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. He’d be great as Easy Rawlins (and it would be better on the small screen).
The only thing I never understood about CR is why he didn’t spread his wings more during The Closer and do other guest appearances, movies, etc. He seemed to stick pretty much to that show.
Good luck, Corey!
Very talented guy. But so difficult to work with. Anger issues beyond belief. Hopefully NBC can get that out of him. I sure would not want to be on a set where he is the leader.
Huh? Whatever diff does that make to his fans? And how do we know you speak the truth?–not that I care.
And you know this because? In seven seasons I have NEVER heard about this.
Good move on Corey’s part! I seriously doubt TNT will hit the lotto twice with Major Crimes. Great supportive cast but it’s a tough road to follow the success of The Closer. He’s smart to move on and establish his name on a different show or platform. I give Crimes 13 eps and see ya later!
I too feel that the spin-off will not be as good as The Closer.Corey’s character to me was so good playing a detective.Brenda treated him like the little brother. I so hope that he is not the leak.I will miss him.Good luck Corey.
Corey Reynolds will be missed, no doubt, but Major Crimes has the potential to be a great show, even without Gabriel. I like what they’ve done with Mary McDonnell’s character, and I’m looking forward to hearing Flynn and Provenza grumble after they learn of her promotion. With those two guys on there, TNT can’t go wrong.
NBC huh? The perennial fourth place network? Yeah, good luck with that.
He not the leak. He was offered a return spot. The leak will be booted out
So wrong! The leak was not intentional…at least not to hurt Brenda!
…. think about it, who felt his job most threatened by Brenda’s success…. will Pope. After Brenda w as cleared how did that vendictive, opposing lawyer on the same day he lost the case. suddenly had in his possesion that box of files on all of the other convicted fellons or suspects who had died since Brenda became Chief, where did he get them……Pope. Just my theory jm
Corey you will be missed. Bless you always in the future. They better not try and make you the leak. That would be real messy; you were to close to Brenda for that bull!!
BTW I refuse to believe the previous post about you being hard to work with. I just don’t see it in you and besides they wouldn’t have offered you the chance to move to the spinoff.
I found this site after checking out the new series ‘Major Crimes’ and could not believe my eyes that Corey Reynolds was not there. I am british and writing from London, England and I absolutely love The Closer, especially Corey. I immediately thought something was amiss – how could the team not have Corey in it? I panicked and googl-ed like a mad person and found this site. I just loved to watch him, he makes even the veteran actors look bad, with his effortless, charismatic yet vulnerable portrayal of Gabriel. I don’t quite know what a ‘holding deal with NBC’ means [I'm guessing they pay him not to act elsewhere??] but I wish him all the luck in the world and hope to see him again real soon. Will be such a dreadful shame if he goes the way of many other good tv actors. I haven’t seen the Closer finale but in my opinion, the one person who has something to gain from leaking secrets [ergo, no one in her team can so be] and that person is Fritzy.
Frizzy as the leak … That really makes sense considering Jon Tenney’s role as a guest will continue on Major Crimes. Just watched a commercial where Brenda is extremely upset and thinking this could cause her to leave L.A. combined with her dad’s illness and needs of an aging mother.
Like you, sorry to learn Corey Reynolds not staying but happy he is getting greater opportunities with a major network.
I agree with you Corey was a major part of the show for me. To watch him interact with Brenda was priceless. He seem the only one who could stand-up tp her sometime. Tenney(Fritz) sometime has the green-eye monster around Det. Gabriel and Brenda. Remember Gabriel was one of the first people who she meet in her team. They were calling him college boy in the begining. Brenda asked everybody to report to him at first. U WILL BE MISSED!!!!!:(
Corey’s Closer role was respectful, thoughtful, and human (mistakes & all). Although I’d love to continue seeing his character (& face…my,my, my!) on Major Crimes, I’d like to see Corey featured in a more pivotal role. He is deeply talented & can bring so much more humanity if given a more developedrresponsibility. Don’t need him to be a crusader, nor the Hollywood personal of the angry Black man. Just more of what he brought as Gabriel would be grand. I pray every blessing & success in his future. Gone with your bad self, Corey!!!
Darn! Corey was the main reason I watched The Closer – along with Kyra.
This sucks!
I agree with you. His contribution to the show will be missed.
I love Corey. He walks like Denzel Washington. I hope where ever he goes, he can come back on Major Crimes. I think the show will be good and succeed. Nothing will be as good as the Closer, but this could be almost as good if people do not compare it with the Closer. Let it set standards for itself. Love you Corey (the younger Denzel)
I love him on the show, wish him all the best,Hope he does guest spots, and that they don’t make him the leak.
I believe that Will Pope is the leak. He is upset that Brenda has married Fritz. I really hate to see the end of that show. I hope Major Crimes will be great also. I think Corey will make a great Easy Rawlins.
Really will miss Corey Reynolds on the spin-off “Major Crimes” but wish him all the luck with NBC in whatever he’ll be doing there – - he really added a nice dynamic to “The Closer” and a great buffer to ‘Brenda Leigh’ – - hope to see more of Mr. Reynolds in the future !!
I believe the leak is Ann.Gabriel’s law student girlfriend.
He stated that he tells her everything. When the two of them was standing at the elevator, and Raydar said hello Ann.
Ann is friends with the Attorney, who wants to bring Brenda down.
That’s why the Attorney for J Rock knew Gabriel, and Gabriel claims not to know him.
He don’t …the attorney knows Ann
I love all the characters on the Closer. They are all talented actors and they have chemistry that is hard to find.
Will miss Corey a LOT!!!
What a talent. I love you Cory and will miss you very much.GOD BLESS YOU!
Show won’t be the same without the chemistry between Gabrielle and Brenda. That was something special to watch. Thanks to 2 VERY TALENTED PEOPLE that made it work. YOU BOTH WILL BE SORELY MISSED, AND WISH YOU THE VERY BEST IN YOUR NEXT ADVENTURES. (Hope we get to be a part of them!) God Bless!
Love you Corey! I will miss “The Closer” and could not watch the new show after the finale – I prefer to remember Sgt Gabriel and Brenda Leigh the way they were. Best wishes and blessings to Reynolds and Sedgewick.
I will miss corey I will not watch major crimes.
