EXCLUSIVE: David Oyelowo has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. He has headed to Virginia and will play the role of a cavalryman. Oyelowo takes the job while he’s concurrently shooting the Christopher McQuarrie-directed One Shot with Tom Cruise starring as Jack Reacher in the Lee Child novel series. Oyelowo plays the lead detective investigating a sniper massacre in Pittsburgh. Oyelowo, last seen in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Help, recently wrapped the Lee Daniels-directed The Paperboy, playing a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who teams with another reporter to investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a murderer. Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman also star. Oyelowo will next be seen starring in Red Tails, the George Lucas-hatched drama about a crew of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program who persevered through segregation to get their chance to show their stuff in the air under the guidance of Col. A.J. Bullard. Oyelowo is repped by ICM, Inphenate and UK-based Hamilton Hodell.

This brother has had a very busy year and will have a very visible 2012. Good show!
Great news. Excellent to see true talent rise to the top. Good on you, mate!
this is his year!!!
That is wonderful! He deserves it! A terrific actor.
As a producer having worked with David before, I will say there is not a classier, more talented, hard working actor in the business. This guy is a rare gem. So happy to see he’s getting the attention he deserves.
Spielberg’s Lincoln becomes more intriguing by the day – just saw Hal Holbrook in his touring production of An Evening with Mark Twain (he was incredible) – and it was revealed that Holbrook just shot his scenes for Spielberg’s film (which was a surprise for me, because I had no idea Holbrook was in the movie). Expectations are going to be massive for this film, especially after years of trying to get it off the ground, and like Munich, these expectations might be too large to meet. Regardless, Lincoln is easily my most anticipated film of 2012, and the casting announcement of Oyelowo only adds to the stellar pedgree lined up to finally bring this project to the screen.
David Oyelowo is such a tremendous actor! I am so happy to see his career on this amazing trajectory. Hope we continue to see more and more of him!
I remember the brother when he played in the British series Spooks/MI-5. My man is on his way.
While I was an assistant at an agency, I worked with David. One of the most genuine, classy, consistently hard working gentleman I’ve met in this business. A rare breed. This news could not go to a more deserving actor.
Great! Sounds like he’s been busy, and I’m so happy for him! Hope he continues to get wonderful work and knock down barriers!

David is an inspiration and a very caring, dedicated family man. So glad to see that his talent has been recognised and he’s appearing in these films. Hopefully the Oscars will soon follow.
