Treme co-creators David Simon and Eric Overmyer envision their HBO series ending after 4 seasons. In an interview with Nola.com on Monday, Simon revealed that he has notified HBO of their plan to have characters’ stories play out over four seasons via memo. Treme, set in post-Katrina New Orleans, has been renewed for a third season, which is now starting production. No decision has been made beyond that, but HBO is known for giving the top creators on its roster the freedom to end their series in the way they have envisioned it.

Too bad they’re the only people in America that want that…
Treme is the most boring, nothing-happens, no-one cares show on TV.
Thanks to HBO for supporting Treme even though the ratings haven’t been very good. It’s a smart show with incredible acting and beautiful music. I hope David Simon is allowed to end it the way he wants to.
I love TREME. Is it THE WIRE? No, of course not, but its still one of the best, most complex hours you can find on TV.
Ahem: you wrote this above “HBO is known for giving the top creators on its roster the freedom to end their series in the way they have envisioned it.”
Did you really mean this? If this was true then explain Carnivale and Deadwood and John From Cin.
Seriously, Yes Sopranos and OZ were given their due. Yes ROME was cancelled but they had notice and came to a conclusion.
I understand Carnivale had issues and lost viewers and coin. But it ended on a cliff-hanger.
And Deadwood WAS (Still is) popular and only ran a couple seasons with no ending. We were promised (was it 1 or 2) a movie to tie things up but alas… and IMHO Deadwood stands as the 2nd best series HBO has done Thus far behind The Wire (Which also came to a conclusion and had way more seasons) and ahead of Sopranos.
In defense of HBO’s decision with “Deadwood,” wasn’t the series creator offered a choice between a shortened fourth season or his other pilot “John from Cincinnati” going to series?
David Milch might disagree with you.
Actually Deadwood has 3 seasons…and the problem with it was that the costs were too high compared to the ratings…Carnivàle was in a worst situation…
The Wire instead had bad ratings and high costs but it has been able to achieve something with the dvd box sets…and anyway..they would never had the courage to cancel the best tv-series ever.
I still believe though that HBO will allow Milch to make a couple of films…they make a lot of TV films for the newtork…
This show is still on?
The Wire was a great show. I never heard anyone say that they hated it. The show kind of turned into propaganda around the 3rd season, and that hurt it. I also feel that suburban American and the yuppies never got into it. It was too real a picture of how the other half lives. It deserved a long run. Treme doesn’t. It’s terrible.
