EXCLUSIVE: Vanessa Williams has been on an ABC primetime series for six consecutive seasons now: four years on Ugly Betty, from which she segued into a starring gig on Desperate Housewives, now in its eighth and final season. The actress and the network are looking to extend their run together with a new series. ABC has signed a talent holding deal with Williams, who will headline a new hourlong or half-hour project targeted for next fall. Williams is the first star from departing Desperate Housewives to book a potential new series gig. She earned three Emmy nominations for her role as the cunning Wilhelmina Slater on Ugly Betty. The multiple Tony nominee and Grammy winner, repped by UTA and manager Geordie Frey, just landed a cameo in Tyler Perry’s The Marriage Counselor. She is currently writing her first book, a memoir in conjunction with her mother Helen Williams, which will be released by Penguin Group around Mother’s Day.

I love Vanessa Williams. I remember her being stripped of her Miss America Crown and the gracious way she handled the debacle. I use her as an example to my friends when they think they will never recover from calamity. In less than 10 years, Vanessa had a Grammy and sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl. We do recover from adversity and Vanessa shows it can be done with a minimum of fuss, just diligence and hard work. Even the Miss America Pageant went back to claiming her several years ago. And what ever happened to Suz
she is best on Desperate Housewives/. ABC Is best with Desperate Housewives. Lets stop all of the stupidity and keep these great actresses and actors and greatest program on the air for more seasons. Replace people (high up) if you have to but keep the ball rolling for all of the public who LOVED YOU>
Biiig shocker. It was clear that’s what they were doing when they shuffled her on over to Desperate Housewives from Ugly Betty; they didn’t want to lose her. Well played, nonetheless.
That photo suggests that Vanessa’s dress deserves a talent holding deal.
Ha! Nice…
I love Vanessa Williams. I’m so glad she’s going to be sticking around our TV screens this Fall.
Ha Ha! @Hmmm… I concur. So happy for Vanessa! She’s beautiful and talented. Double whammy!
I love Vanessa Williams too.
I guess ABC didn’t want to miss out on the “right stuff”.
Wilhelmina Slater was a great role for her. They should find a way to resurrect that character.
Williams should have been paid combat pay for the crap thrown at her at two-years-too-old Housewives, which should have been canceled before Betty.
As much as I’m enjoying Revenge, I fear that it’s going to follow in long-line of ABC shows that end up going over the top. Wilhelmina would be perfect. LOL Seriously though, Williams could fit into OUAT or Revenge quite easily.
Go Vanessa…. Real talent says it ALALLLLLLLLLLL
All I can say is……OMG!! so happy!!!!! for her
Glad to see ABC knows real talent. Been making many good ideas this year. i like revenge and once upon a time.
well deserved. i absolutely cannot wait. the woman has worked hard to be where she is today. no matter what, vanessa williams will always be queen in my eyes. love love love.
She would have been great as the evil queen in Once Upon A Time!
Fantastic!! Vanessa also supports a lot of charities and the Special Olympics. This is the good that comes to someone who does good for others. She’s so deserving of this blessing. So beautiful too. Congrats, Vanessa. You continue being an inspiration and testimony to “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
she’s a class-act! brilliant! can’t wait to see what they develop for her !!
3 kids and nearly 30 years post-Miss America she is still one of the most talented and stunning women in the show business.
dang..that’s right. I am in awe of her.
@getawayjordan – Vanessa has 4 kids. Melanie, Jillian, Devin (with Ramon Hervey) and Sasha (with Rick Fox).
The most gorgeous picture of you. Happy you are still going to be entertaining us after Desperate HW, only started watching when you joined cast. Love you Vanessa, you always make me smile.
When I grow up, I hope to be just like you someday Vanessa. Stay true to you and all your dreams will continue to shine through. BTW, I am still in love with “Darling I”. The Right Stuff” and “Running Back to You”. (Big Smile)
