EXCLUSIVE: In the young actor category, a role to die for is John McClane Jr, the son of Bruce Willis’ indestructible cop character in A Good Day To Die Hard, which John Moore will direct in Russia early next year for 20th Century Fox.

I’m told the studio, Moore and Willis are down to these four actors for the role: Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth; Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul (scheduling on his series could pose a problem); The Pacific star James Badge Dale; and D.J. Cotrona, who was a regular in the series Detroit 1-8-7 and is currently shooting G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. The studio would not comment.

James Badge Dale for the win. Rubicon,The Pacific and 24. The guy is more than qualified.
No Shia? what about Ashton? hahahahahaha
I liked Rubicon as well. Dale’s a fine actor.
Speking of James Badge Dale (Chase on 24), I kinda liked the aborted idea they had for number four: Die Hard 24/7, where the movie was going to team up John McClane with none other than Jack Bauer. I was thinking that was a great idea – they could use that to pass the torch to 24 movies (and would be a great intro/segue) since Willis probably wont do many more of these.
But it’ll never happen. Especially if they cast Dale, because that would really screw up continuity.
Please Aaron Paul and I don’t see the appeal of Liam Hemsworth so hopefully not him
I’m with you on Liam Hemsworth; his brother definitely got the pretty gene.
Putting Hemsworth’s doofus-y face in this movie is a great to get me NOT to see it. Dale seems too old. Don’t know anything about Cotrona but he’s got a good headshot there. Aaron Paul is obviously a great actor. Not an obvious choice for this role, but definitely the most interesting of the above, and the only one that would make me want to see the movie MORE.
Aaron Paul!!!!!
aaron paul. and seriously Liam????? Liam???? wtf
Let’s not forget super-new action star Taylor Lautner! It will give him something to do while the 7,423rd draft of Stretch Armstrong is re-written.
If those are the four hard to imagine it’s not Liam Hemsworth. You can’t relaunch the series without Bruce with any of those other guys.
Aaron Paul is the only logical choice of this bunch.
Is D.J. testing for the role of McClane’s adopted son? Or are they going to CGI his face to look at least SOMETHING like Bruce’s?
Aaron Paul all the way. Has the right mix of humor and edge for the role. Just has a bit of bulking up to do.
Jesse Pinkman!!!! er i meant Aaron Paul for the win!!!!! Love love him
I vote Aaron Paul.
I will watch Aaron Paul do anything.
Please let it be Aaron Paul…he’s BY FAR the most dynamic, exciting actor on that list.
Aaron Paul! YIPPEE KAY-AY, BITCH.
Breaking Bad can’t be that huge of a schedule – Bryan Cranston has managed to do Drive, Contagion, and Total Recall in between seasons. It is interesting that two of these guys just happening to be co-starring in other Bruce Willis projects, The Expendables 2 and GI Joe 2. I suspect it’ll just come down to who Bruno likes hanging out with the most.
The son of Bruce Willis? Michael Kelso?
That would be some die hard.
AARON PAUL!!
Definitely not Liam Hemsworth.
It has to be Aaron Paul, but isn’t Breaking Bad filming from around January til like, later than usual due to the increased episode order for the final season? New Mexico to Russia sounds kinda unrealistic unless it’s not a big role.
But yeah, everyone else is too old or too boring for me to root for over Paul.
I would also have to go with Aaron Paul. He has that rugged style that would work well. Dale could probably do it, but i am thinking of him as Chase, but that was several years ago. Definitely not Hemsworth. Aaron Paul is definitely the correct choice.
If they want someone to play Bruce Willis’ son, shouldn’t they have asked Asthon Kutcher? Boom.
Damn it. Someone beat me to it.
According to imdb, Dale is 33 and Willis 56 so it’s possible he could have been a dad at 23. Paul’s 32 but looks much younger and he’s 4 inches shorter than Willis so depending on the character’s age and personality type, I think Paul’s the better match. Plus, he’s really good.
If the film is set in the present, John McClaine Jr would be 27/28, as he was born in 1984.So, those actors could work, as they would only have to play a few years younger.
But, you also have to keep in mind that Mary Elizabeth Winstead played Lucy McClaine in the previous film and she is John McClaine Jr’s older sister.
So, if Winstead returns, they have to pick an actor who can convincingly play her younger brother.Winstead is 26, but looks several years younger.I honestly think Dale, Paul and Cotrona are too old, while Hemsworth is too young.
If it came down to it, I would pick Hemsworth, only because he’s the youngest and seems the most suited for an action film.
Wait, since the last one starred his daughter, this one contractually has to star his son? Yeah, I think not. None of todays “fresh faced” actors have the cred or believability to pull off McClane’s son. They might as well give up trying to resurrect the great action films of the last decade, and just rerelease the old greats on bluray.
Aaron Paul or I’m back to hitting the meth pipe.
NOTE TO THE AARON PAUL TEAM: Neither studios, nor directors, nor ANYONE in ANY decision-making position monitors these forums to tally public interest before making a casting choice.
You’re making AP look bad — STOP.
How are we making Aaron Paul look bad- by showing he has a strong fan base who would go to see him in a film?
