Dimension Films has landed U.S. distribution rights to director Joseph Ruben’s thriller Penthouse North, which stars Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan and begins shooting in December in Ottawa. David Loughery wrote the script and is producing with Ruben, Jeff Sackman and Michael Baker; Jon Shiffman is executive producer. The story centers on a sadistic criminal named Hollander (Keaton) who plays a cat-and-mouse game with Sara Taylor (Monaghan), a photojournalist who was blinded in Iraq and also has a fortune of stolen diamonds hidden in her apartment. Hollander uses psychological and physical torture in an effort to find them, but Sara fights back. Dimension’s Andrew Kramer and Michal Steinberg negotiated the deal with Sackman and ICM, which helped package the film and co-repped U.S. rights.

This sounds a lot like “Wait Until Dark.” Is this a remake?
I thought I saw this movie with Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin when it was called WAIT UNTIL DARK. Regardless, great cast!
Wow. Guess they figured out how to remake WAIT UNTIL DARK without buying the rights. Keaton in the sadistic Arkin role could definitely work, just wish it didn’t feel like creative theft.
Looking forward to this movie. Keaton brilliant at playing bad guys. Ruben is a terrific thriller director.
I read this script and liked it. The Monahan character really kicks ass and Keaton is a great choice for the bad guy, playing against type.
Like we need another blind girl in jeopardy film. Wait Until Dark. Blink. See No Evil. Jennifer 8. It’s like it’s own genre.
Bob still buys movies like Harvey?
It’s a COMPLETE rip-off of the classic “Wait Until Dark”.PERIOD. For once, I hope they sue these guys asses off. Do they think we’re this stupid? While we expected this from Keaton who’s desperate…not Monaghan…maybe we should rethink our opinion of her. get another agent lady!
Michael Keaton is an icon. Recognize!
The key to overcoming the current Hollywood slump: more Michael Keaton movies.
Cheers to Jeff Sackman, one of the true good guys in the business. He deserves all his success and more.
Read script. Super tight and well done. I have read a few David Loughery scripts he doesn’t waste words or meaningless exposition and leaves room for actors to figure out a way to play their roles. He just gets it. I met him after I read Lakeview Terrace couldn’t be a nicer chap. No pretension and no attitude. Congratulations to David and Joe Rubin and good luck with the production. Now will someone fire my boss for passing on this.
Yes, and a touch of Rear Window… Keaton as the Raymond Burr part Michelle as the cripple in the wheelchair but blind instead of wheelchair bound. The odd thing is you can use 30% of anyone’s idea and it is legal…if you don’t just copy word for word.
I would say if they avoid having Keaton pretend to be multiple people, they can juuuust skate around it being a rip-off of WAIT UNTIL DARK, and call it a “(wink wink) homage).” If he passes himself off with different voices, sorry guys, you’re just making a rip-off.
congratulations to David. Keep writing scripts that get made and make lots of $. Happy Joe is back to work. Underrated director.
