Fox Sports has asked a federal bankruptcy court to dismiss the Dodgers from bankruptcy as the networks said it would earlier this week, the LA Times reported late Friday. Fox Sports said it is not necessary for owner Frank McCourt to market the team’s TV rights to fulfill his obligations to creditors. Fox contends McCourt can repay his creditors in full simply by selling the team “for a handsome price” either with the current TV contract with Fox Sports or with a new owner negotiating a new TV deal. The team’s bankruptcy likely would hamper Fox’s ability to enforce its existing contract without court intervention. The Dodgers would like to auction those rights and attract higher bids for the team and for those broadcast rights. Fox has asked the court to enforce the current contract that bars the Dodgers from discussions with any other media outlets before November 30, 2012. Major League Baseball extracted an agreement with McCourt to sell the team, and he’s promised to close a sale by April 30. Fox cited the $160 million contract with Matt Kemp as evidence that bankruptcy is not necessary for the Dodgers to continue operating and that McCourt is just trying to come out of any deal with more money in his own pocket.

Blame Fox as well for causing all this upheavel with the Dodgers, as they bought out the O’Malleys for a hefty sum, couldn’t run the team properly themselves and then sold it to this brainchild mcCourt abnd also helping to fund the team at times while he was the owner. Fox is a hypocrite here and if you’re going to sell the team, screw it, sell the rights as well under new ownership. Like I said, contracts aren’t worth a damn anymore. Both Fox and McCourt should go bye-bye once and for all.
Frank McCourt’s people said weeks ago that the team was financially viable and that there was no reason the debts of the team would not be paid. His taking the team into bankruptcy court was an attempt to circumvent the agreement he signed with MLB when he bought the team saying he couldn’t use the court system to challenge MLB rulings (like their rejecting of the original Fox TV deal). The bankruptcy has always been a joke and nothing more than McCourt trying to dig in and gain additional leverage to line his pockets with as much money as possible.
The amazing thing to me is has MLB has basically abandoned Fox not that McCourt has agreed to sell the team. Fox “stuck up” for MLB by revoking their TV deal to McCourt once the team went into bankruptcy court and sided with MLB in trying to force McCourt out as the Dodgers owner, but now, MLB is saying nothing as McCourt is trying to weasel his way out of his contract with Fox so he can sign a new TV deal before selling the team.
I remember when I was in LA and watched a bit of the divorce news of Frank Mc Court, I was not shocked in the least bit that the ” night demon ” who he married was intent on destroying his life and determined to take him to the cleaners…..” Who we are inside ” is how we will gravitate towards people who ” mirror us “…..basically what I’m saying is Frank Mc Court is not a nice person, so he picked a not nice person to marry who share the same values as his in screwing people….I laughed so hard when I heard the ex wife claimed she owned half of the team….not only was she a piece of garbage, white trash, but delusional…..the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves and the lies we tell people about ourselves are all the same….the Frank and his ex wife are a ” piece of work “. I always tell my friends, be careful who you bring into your life, they can either take you down into the sewer with them or if they’re quality, good people then you will go up with them…..in this case Frank Mc Court’s first mistake was marrying that piece of garbage, now he finds himself in the position that he’s in and there fore it just triggers more dishonest behavior to rescue himself…..honesty, morals, ethics all come from a ” pure heart “…..ugly , impure hearts will always dictate bad actions…..in your personal and business life, you always have to be extremely selective with whom you get involved with and bring into your life:) …..bad people will bring bad things into your life, and good people will bring good things into your life…..wisdom is the key:) good luck FOX
As with anything contractual or legal it will all come down to what’s in writing vs. what isn’t. Judges and juries can’t run from the printed word (and the chronology of such documentation) as much as they might like to. The web will never let them. For now anyway.
