EXCLUSIVE: The advance accolades for Gary Oldman’s work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has put the actor in high demand. He’s Warner Bros’ choice not only to play the role of The Colonel in Akira (Garrett Hedlund will star in one of the two leads in the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed film), but also to play Merlin in Arthur & Lancelot, which David Dobkin will direct from his own script. The studio likes Joel Kinnaman for the Lancelot role and will test actors shortly for the role of Arthur. Oldman is working for the studio right now in the Chris Nolan-directed The Dark Knight Rises, which is shooting in New York at the moment. The big question is whether Oldman gets some love from the Academy this time. It’s hard to believe that this actor hasn’t been nominated once in his great career. He’s managed by Douglas Urbanski and agented by APA’s Jim Osborne.

He should have been nominated for The Contender. He was amazing in that film!
He should have been nominated for a lot of things: SID AND NANCY, DRACULA, THE PROFESSIONAL, etc.
Second that emotion. He killed it!
Agreed.
Agreed completely. He’s still my favorite to win the Oscar for Best Actor in 2012, over Clooney and DiCaprio.
He was GOING to be nominated until it did something (forget what) that pissed off the producers of THE CONTENDER and they pushed Jeff Bridges into the slot.
“Your impotent men, with their foolish spells, cannot protect you from my power…”
This guy’s been robbed at LEAST half a dozen times by the Academy.
Here here!
“I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It’s like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin’ and you can hear the insects.”
“Now I know I’m pretty, but I ain’t as pretty as a couple of titties.”
The Academy? You mean the people who picked Denzels Cop over Daniel Day`s Butcher?
Hopefully he runs away from Akira as far as he can.
+1, the animated movie wasn’t great as it left so many important parts, I doubt the live-action movie will be do any better.
Paul, he should have received many nominations : Sid & Nancy, The Professional, Air Force One, etc…. Gary Oldman is already an acting legend. I prefer him over Sean Penn or Mickey Rourke -any day of the week.
But what about Dermot Mulroney?
Go, Gary Go!
He should be coveted based on his entire body of work, not just the last great thing.
Annabella Sciorra taught him what to be for America…
Will Warner Bros waste Oldman again like in the awful Red Riding Hood?
he’s been one of the most versatile actors in the history of cinema throughout his entire career, and only now is he getting notice?
Kudos to his agent Jim Osborne and manager Doug Urbanski. They have been great in putting Gary in positions to show off his otherworldly talents.
Gary Oldman – just a genius actor. All that he doing impression and i’m his fan from 90′s.
He should have been nominated, and won, for his role as Beethoven in Immortal Beloved. Amazing performance.
“The advance accolades for Gary Oldman’s work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has put the actor in high demand.”
Sorry, but he’s ALWAYS going to be in high demand given his talent and lengthy resume. He didn’t need this particular movie to point that out to studios/producers.
I’ve been following his career since — well — as long as I can remember.
It’s not “hard to believe” that he’s never been nominated — it is a fucking disgrace.
I’m not Gary, I’m SURE as shit not Jimbo Osborne; just a very, very long-time fan of one of the best living actors today.
sounds like the wizard of oz is working it at apa
It’s one of the reasons why it’s difficult to take the Oscars seriously! Oldman should have definitely been honored by now with all of the phenomenal work he has done.
