Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has added another layer to its rollout plans with the news that the film will preview in France in IMAX two days ahead of its official Dec 14 release in the territory. Paramount has confirmed to me that this will mark the first paid shows worldwide.
The latest chapter in the Tom Cruise franchise will premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival on Dec 7. Five days later, it will play on 5 of France’s IMAX-equipped screens in Paris, Lyon, Toulouse and Rouen. The film’s official run then begins in France on Wednesday Dec 14. Ghost Protocol will also be released in IMAX in the UK on 16 screens on Dec 21, 5 days before it opens wide in that territory. IMAX previews begin in the US on Dec 16, 5 days before the film’s regular bow there on Dec 21.
The film features more than 30 minutes of scenes shot with IMAX cameras. On IMAX screens, those sequences will expand to fill the entire canvas. A featured sequence includes Tom Cruise’s now-famous stunt of scaling the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai, the world’s tallest building.

Cruise, the face of the Church of Scientology worldwide, scaling the world’s tallest building in the Middle East’s Dubai, premiering the reboot of his contractual franchise at the Dubai International Film Festival…on the anniversary of the invasion of Pearl Harbor.
Awfully troubling facts commingling with symbolism for media viral P.R. lift on behalf of the “Church” – lift literally, in human terms. Build the publicity stunt into a pop culture commercial narrative in order to trigger an unconscious sales pitch converting Cruise himself into a daredevil “Dianetics” NASCAR racer…sponsored by Paramount. Deniable Nazi propaganda stuff. The studio, like everyone surrounding a Scientologist, is played for a sucker, a chump, a fool, a potential tool (or as they would call such “human” interaction – “tech”) to be used and discarded in order to further Scientology’s goals and international agenda. As was the case with Spielberg on “War of the Worlds.”
What about the Dark Knight Rises preview? Honestly, that’s the only reason any of us are going to see this movie – that and Simon Pegg.
#nerdalert!
I’m seeing this because it’s a Mission: Impossible movie and that’s a mark of quality. Period.
Okay, M:I 2 had some really crappy moments but 1 and 3 were GREAT and Cruise always picks the best directors and commits to the stunts.
Integrating Imax footage was awesome in TDK, much better than 3D, so I’m excited about seeing the technique used again.
And the TDKR footage doesn’t hurt, either.
Not a plant, just a lover of all things M:I, and, c’mon, admit, Cruise running? Can’t beat it.
Tom Cruise can’t put a foot wrong in my eyes, especially 80s Tom Cruise. The Colour of Money never fails to impress.
