Chechnya tyrant Ramzan Kadyrov’s birthday party is the gift that keeps on giving — or maybe the opposite of that. Hilary Swank’s PR firm 42West has released the actress, EW reports, amid the continuing fallout from her appearance at the October 5 event. As one of the trades might have said, the “praisery” decided to distance itself from Swank because she and they disagreed how the aftermath of her appearance should be handled. Swank already fired longtime manager Jason Weinberg and a pair of CAA agents but remains with CAA as a client. For now.

While Hilary Swank continues to be sucked down the drain, Seal and Jean Claude walk away unscathed….
@Hollander —- Because Seal and Jean Claude were already sucked into a vortex of irrelevancy years ago…
Totally agree. Why isn’t Seal getting raked over the coals? He and his wife Heidi Klum are always in the press, which sadly, makes them relevant.
I think people are just sick and tired of any woman named Hillary, Hilary or any variation thereof.
And can you blame ‘em?
if this has become a war, swank vs. weinberg, i suspect jason will win. he’s taken the fall for some bad decisions and from being too busy to mind some details that do need minding. but, if you look at her PR, production company, most everything industry save caa, jason’s made her introductions. people who know jason weinberg personally are very loyal to him.
Only cuz they want their paychecks. He’s not respected outside his office.
Ladies and Gentlemen you are watching the titanic sink.
ie she wants to keep the money… and they think she should hand it back.
she already gave the money to charity.
Has she already given the money to charity? Really? I heard otherwise. Can someone confirm?
Leave her alone. She wouldn’t have gone if she knew tge history. She is actually a wonderful person.
Sorry, but if she didn’t “know the history”, shame on her. Prior to the internet? Okay. NOW? Inexcusable.
She knew. What she DIDN’T know is the ripple effect that this little highly paid appearance would create.
Well she may be wonderful but I guess she’s illiterate. Any other person with half a brain might have Googled Kadyrov just to be sure. I’m sure she’s busy but how long does that take?
Note to other celebrities: Try Google or Wikipedia before collecting that pay check.
Don’t try the `she didn’t know where she was being flown to’ excuse. it’s been tried in these posts already and laughed at. you look like an idiot. just an advice.
Google`s a miraculous tool. Someone should teach the kids at CAA how to use it.
Amazing that she seems to think she’s blameless in all of this. I’ve lost total respect for her.
“Released the actress”! I love that phrase! It’s like somebody threw open the cage door or pulled a lever, while shouting “Release the actress! *MWAH-HAH-HAH*”! Maybe next time they could unleash somebody or something instead. And definitely a smart move by 42West, because no amount of spin can wash the stink off Swank now.
Tough to come back from this one. Swank has been greedy, demonstrated poor judgment, ignorance, shown herself to be a fake for hire, and behaved in a way that suggests she has zero integrity. Don’t know what 42West suggested, but she needed a major damage control exercise. Firing her agents was a bad move; they weren’t restraining her at the mic. She was the one who stood up in front of the audience and showered them with weak jokes and false praise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmyE2WZvuPQ
And Seal and JCVD need to take some heat on this too.
That was a very odd intro, she walks up there and just stands there while they play her films in the background.
I never knew Hilary COULDN’T sing…that clip was painful.
She actually says, “I read, I do my research.” — Hahahahahaha. She knew. She took a paycheck!!!
Awesome. thanks for the clip. enough said. case closed.
She should just blame her going to this event on taking too many painkillers from a mystery injury that happened during Million Dollar Baby and confusing this evil dictator with beloved comic Rip Torn. Then she gets shuttled off to a rehab center in Hawaii to focus on removing the pain.
That’s what a PR flack does – creative solutions for creative people who have really bad judgment moments.
Gump’s words still ring true, Hilary: Stupid is as stupid does. You, and all the other celebrities/singers who accept huge checks from VERY questionable foreign leaders/dictators for appearances, have no one to else to blame when it blows up.
Funny that’s she’s the punching bag for this thing. Have Seal and Van Damme had anywhere near the fallout over this? Granted, she’s more relevant then those two…
I agree, but no one expects much out of Mr. Klum.
And you wonder why smart actresses like Jolie don’t have big representation? Why have someone speak for you or tell you what to say when you goof? Your mistake, handle it yourself…geez she’s a two-time oscar winner!
The highest paid actress in hollywood has only a Manager for represntation go figure!
Hey Truth, Jolie signed with an agent. Go Figure! It takes a team of people to run the ship, and 99% of all actors need that team on their behalf. Weinberg and CAA made a HUGE mistake and it cost the team captain his job. Hilary DID apologize and say she was donating all the money to charity. 42 West didn’t like the way she’s “handled” the aftermath? The press release should have said “42 West is scared of losing Marisa Tomei and Demi Moore, which Weinberg is probably threatening them he will pull if they don’t drop Hilary.” Read between the lines people.
Not to worry, she can always go to work for Fox News where the dregs of humanity always seem to wash up. Or better yet CNBC, because they don’t have enough buxom cupcakes pimping the fraud-ridden stock market.
I’d like to see documentation that she’s donated the money away. Evil dictators have ruined people’s lives and no one should profit from their lame celebrations. Scape goating her team was a loser move. Glad that 42 West took a stand…reps are always to blame, but its good to see it can go both ways. Hilary needs to go see “Devil’s Double” and get a little insight.
When’s the last time anyone cared what JCVD or Seal do good or bad?
Swank made a bad, embarassing mistake. But it seems to me the mistake would have been rather easy to fix if she worked with her people instead of pointing fingers at everyone else first.
When it comes to PR damage control, the phrase “silence is golden” doesn’t apply. The fact that Ms. Swank hasn’t gone on the record is very telling. She should host a press conference right now and confess everything or at least walk us through her thought process. Spin is one thing but when things spin out of control, honesty, forthrightness and communication are critical. Just ask Lindsay, Mel and every other celebrity that has a huge brain fart. I disagree that Swank’s career is in jeopardy. She just needs to stand up straight and address the media. RIGHT NOW!
Signed a concerned media pro
I can’t help but think she should have just apologized, given the money to charity and then laid low for a month or two. By firing her agent she kept this in the news and that led to her PR firm dropping her, thus keeping it in the news even longer. There are new scandals every few days, people would have forgotten about this. As scandals go this wasn’t even very interesting, she wasn’t drunk in public, she didn’t pull a gun on a hooker, she didn’t use the N word, there’s no paternity suite, she didn’t get busted with an eight ball of coke.
At least Deadline didn’t say 42 West had “fired” her. Someone, somewhere learned a lesson of some kind.
She deserves EVERY SECOND of this. I’m sure she hasn’t really reflected upon the horrors that her dear friend has bestowed upon thousands of victims who don’t get to have any more birthdays. She was informed before she went to the monster party and decided on her own to take the $ and be part of the vile festivities. Enjoy the blood money Hillary– don’t give it away at this point–and every year that you blow out the candles on your own crummy cake, please think about how many fingers and toes were ripped off of people to pay for your very, very special life.
42West released her? Wow, way to throw a client already under the bus even further under the bus. Again, proof that these fake Prada purse-toting sycophants who call themselves public relations executive make any difference. I used to hate agents but now I have personal publicists even more.
Celebrity publicists are sociopathic liars. It’s pure laziness. The true skill would be in being evasive at the most, truthful in what you do say, and still succeeding in your job.
It’s amusing to me when I read, “Oh, if she googled this Chechnyan thug” or “Did some research”.
Hillary and her team knew exactly who this thug was.
They made the decision that her appearance carried very little risk.
Which, of course, was unbelievably stupid.
Hillary likely concluded that her team made this “decision” b/c they wanted their $100K fees . . . and thus, it was THEY who whored themselves for the money . . . and outweighed their fees over Hillary’s representation.
Now, of course, it was ultimately Hillary’s decision and she has to shoulder the blame.
She’s probably arguing – “Look. If they had told me NOT to do it. And how stupid it was. Then I would have not done it. But they were telling me, “Oh, it be ok.”
Indescribably dumb.
That said, she was right to fire them. Again, not b/c they didn’t “know” but b/c they did “know” and came up with a absurbly foolish decision.
