Universal has released a trailer for the spy thriller Safe House, which stars Denzel Washington as a rogue CIA agent and Ryan Reynolds as the guy trying to keep him alive. It looks like it could be fun watching Washington play a tough guy with a bit of bad in him — that would be a similar formula to his corrupt L.A. cop in Training Day, which earned him the Best Actor Oscar.

looks like a cool movie if someone besides RR was in it.
The only R I care about is the rating – this is R-rated material; if they’ve shoehorned it into a PG-13, count me out.
Looks good, I’m in!
This look sooooo tired.
3:10 to Yuma, and some bruce willis movie comes to mind
Tired? No way! There’s nothing fresher than a super-awesome CIA operative who’s “gone rogue!” Maybe the CIA higher-ups want him killed! No wait they want the other guy killed! Who can you trust? Wait now they’re playing head games!
Man oh man, too many original ideas here to even keep track of…
It looked fine. You and Alex108181 need to put a cork in it.
When they’ve rebooted the remake to SAFE HOUSE, THEN you can whine about “tired”.
“Tired”. The criticism “tired” is what’s TIRED!
For the record, I have no dog in this fight. Just — ehem — TIRED of posts like yours.
You want “originality”? Go make an indy with Harmony Korine about the sexual frustrations of meatloaf.
absolutely right. this site really needs a thumbs-up button.
Great script, pretty good trailer, hopefully a good movie.
Smart move by Reynolds. Go for something, no pun intended, safe… after the disaster that was Green Lantern. Looks good.
What move was made here? He shot this movie a considerable amount of time before Green Lantern came out. For all he knew at the time he made this, Green Lantern was going to be a massive hit that this film would be the follow-up to.
Cool trailer for an interesting project, but the godawful music is so damn distracting.
Guess you’re not a Jay-Z fan… LOL!
Yes! The music took me right out of it. Who was that before Jay-Z, Incubus? Egregious. My goodness…
Music is awesome. Jay Z and Kanye together. It works perfect for this movie.
Yes, please.
Training Day with spies. Kinda cool, I guess.
FANTASTIC TRAILER!!
Might be another average action movie, but this is a well done marketing piece that will do wonders for the campaign as a whole.
Hope to see more equally as good stuff, and I bet Universal does to. It’s work like this that will bring in the money.
Nice to see Denzel challenging himself acting wise. He’s only played a cop/detective/agent, what, 79 times before?
Nice to see RR involved though.
Should be worth a look.
OK – but the music seems like they’re trying too hard to be hip. It worked in the Mission Impossible trailer, but this doesn’t fit.
Fuck. Yes.
Dope song. Dope trailer.
Denzel is bringin’ sexy back, rockin’ the ‘fro! Damn, that’s one fine hunk of manliness!
I’m seeing this flick… regardless of the fact that RR is in it. How does that boy keep getting big parts when he’s so monumentally mediocre? Seriously. I’m not being nasty… well, I am but I’d also really like to know. Would one of you entertainment know-it-alls please explain?
This movie would sound a lot better with Ryan Gosling.
Go Brooklyn go.
He looks more tired then me after 12 to 14 hours days.
Does he sleep throughout the movie.
the movie looks so-so, but the trailer was really distracting and unfocused… didn’t really set up the concept, the story, etc.
But a February release…..
Oh yes,
They even threw in a waterboarding scene. Yeah, kind of sad when your agenda is so obvious.
This could have really been something…without Ryan Reynolds…and that crappy music…and Denzel Washington. Denzel’s a fine actor, but his dark side characters all feel the same. Ryan is a sidekick in a chick-flick, and the fact that Hollywood is trying to make him more than that is bizarre.
Let’s recast, shall we?
Denzel Washington character: Brad Pitt
Ryan Reynolds character: Leonardo DiCaprio
Girl in the bed character: cut from movie…completely.
Brendan Gleeson: perfect casting
Robert Patrick character: Chris Cooper
Then we’d have a movie.
Denzel’s dark side character’s all feel the same. Right. But Chris Cooper’s maybe/maybe not bad CIA agent nevvvvvvver gets old. Bourne Identity, Breach, etc. But hey at least in your movie, the cast’ll be niiiiiice and white. There, now, THAT’S better.
ROFL@GTFOHWTB… Ummm, I’m already thinking Chris Cooper for the CIA agent in my script and it’s not even written yet. LOL! Don’t worry, my lead is a female of ethnic origin. @Wicked, go somewhere with that B.S. Leonardo is preparing for his Oscar-winning performance in Django. Oh, wait, do we want do recast all the slaves in Django too…?
HOLY CRAP! Let me say that again…HOLY CRAP! I suggest another actor for a role in a movie that has nothing to do with race, and more than one person claims it is a racist thing? Seriously?!??! I mean…I am taken aback that recasting one black character to a white character in a movie that is ALREADY leaning heavily white would raise any racist eyebrows. That is just totally effin ridiculous. I am a left leaning liberal who voted for Obama with pride, and you are suggesting a racial issue because I thought Denzel Washington was wrong for this role? Have we really gotten to the point in this country where EVERYTHING is a racially motivated hate issue? Grow the eff up people.
Denzel is allways good to watch. I’ll go see this.
Why is Denzel always paired up with awful actors? First Chris Pine and now Ryan Reynolds. He’s so far above them.
I’d like to see Denzel work with some better directors and stop doing these B action movies. Don’t get me wrong, he always elevates the material – but give him some better damn material so it can live up to his talent!!!
Aww… booooo… I really like Chris Pine and Ryan is fun to look at. I’m sure at this point in his career, Denzel can say yes or no to a script. I’m betting he chose this one.
“…Ryan is fun to look at”
So are accidents on the freeway.
I’ve already saw this movie at a screening at WB studios a few months back. It is good. I won’t tell you how it ends.
I just hope they can stop that train before it crashes into a school bus or something.
I dig it. Will watch.
Yeah the Kanye/ Jay-Z was too distracting and I bet the song’s not even in the movie. It worked better when they used “Power” in the Limitless trailer.
