Following yesterday’s poster debut for Titanic 3D, the first trailer has been released, and it features an introduction by director James Cameron. This 3D re-release hits theaters April 6th. First released in 1997, Titanic remains the 2nd highest-grossing film of all time:

I don’t really like 3D movies, but that trailer made me awfully nostalgic. I’m in.
Yeah, the trailer hits the nostalgia button pretty well. It conjured up feelings for the gold old days when I saw movies all the time, with a lot less cynicism and greater susceptibility to the pixie dust called cinema.
I liked the trailer, too, but I just hope he fixes the netting on Billy Zane’s wig this time round.
I’m in! There are quite a few older movies that I’d pay to see in theaters again. This is one of them.
I love the huge credit at the end: “WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JAMES CAMERON”. We know, Jim. We know.
This is such a blatant cash grab. Cameron is now no better than Lucas when it comes to tinkering and re-releasing. I have as much enthusiasm for this as The Phantom Menace 3D – ie none.
I disagree. Hollywood should produce at least some films moviegoers actually want to see and re-releasing Titanic is a gift I can’t wait to enjoy. It will probably be the only film to get me back into a theater all year.
This is Hollywood. If there weren’t a way to make money, no one would do anything. As someone who dis-likes 3D myself, I’m extremely curious to see what the man at the forefront of the 3D movement does with conversion. You know his control freak hands will be all over this. Plus, I believe, they’ve been working on this conversion for well over a year. It seems that the conversion is being carefully thought out and given great care and money to make it look as good as possible. Not just a slap-dab Clash of the Titans type conversion. If this doesn’t look good, it should really put the conversion debate to rest.
I’ve read some articles of people who saw the 15 minutes of converted footage, and they were impressed with the stereo depth and quality of the 3D conversion (some of them said it looked as good as natively-shot 3D films). And you’re right, Cameron closely supervised the conversion process.
People will have to wait and see if this 3D conversion is as good as Cameron touts it as. If it’s any comfort, people who don’t want to see the 3D version can opt to see it in 2D.
So you’re saying you would’ve preferred a “re-boot” by a hot Music Video director out of Sweden that hasn’t graduated high school yet?
I hope they cleaned up some of that CG work. I recently rewatched the film and the aerial shots of the ship and the people moving about on it looked super fake.
Anyone who goes to see this is living in the past. Titanic came out 14 years ago and James Cameron is still milking it. Until recently, he was still milking Avatar as well. All those billions of dollars are not enough for him.
Good on ya Jim. Let them harpies crab all they want..your film still gives chicken skin…the trailer as well.
I’ve been waiting to experience it again on the big screen for 13 years – 3D only sweetens the deal. There’s nothing like this movie in a dark theater.
I was under the impression that James Cameron was emphatically against using fake 3D in movies. He says the only way to do 3D is to shoot something in 3D. So apparently he’s not above throwing away his esthetic opinion for a bucket of money. In fairness, I’d do the same thing, but it makes it hard to stand on that leg of his in the future.
Or maybe he wants to show it should be done if it must be done.
Cameron is against shooting a movie in 2D and then putting the 3D in later. There’s not much he can do in this case, unless he wants to hire Betty White to replace Gloria Stuart and reshoot the entire movie.
haha thanks for laughs
Rose: “I’ll never let go Jack”
Me: “Liar!”
No, James Cameron is against quicky fake 3D, like Warner converting Clash Of The Titans to 3D in ten weeks. That hurts the entire industry.
There’s nothing wrong with converted to 3D if the filmmaker agrees and they take their time to do it.
I liked this movie better when it was TITANIC!
Oh wait…
Sure, Cameron is on board for this, this has more to do with Fox then anything else. Besides, audiences are dumb so they’ll suck this one up with an open wallet.
Can’t wait. My 3D glasses will go on.
This just reminds me how badly Leo has aged.
What is it about this movie that I want to hate it, but always end up transfixed and entertained by it?
I must admit that this will be my first 3-D movie since Avatar…and I’m looking forward to it! Good job Cameron and crew….
The ship still sinks, doesn’t it? The same characters live and die in this version? The story is identical to 14 years ago, so what’s the point of watching a recooked 3D version?
Nah, Gary, I’m sure in this version the ship will make it to America and everyone will be okay.
hilarious
This is a great movie, but it really does not pop out at you like a 3D movie should. Except for the Kate Winslet nude scene.
This brings back fond memories of an age where tickets were priced at a level where you could consider seeing a movie in the theater multiple times, which you might want to do because you had to wait so long to be able to watch again on video.
How can this be HOT when it came out in 1997?
It was a well-made movie with a half-baked script in 1-D. Seeing people falling the length of the ship in 3-D probably won’t change that.
Classic flick..one of my favorites growin up
2.40 trailer.
1.78 3D release. So much for not changing a frame.
Still watching it.
let’s just be thankful it’s a (updated) re-release and not a remake.
Echo others’ comments…I’d much rather see rereleases of films than remakes. Imagine if they remade Gone With the Wind…the horror!!
