You know things are bad when a PR firm resigns an account in these tough economic times. But Principal Communications Group just did that as ICM continues imploding. I’ll have an update on this agency drama later today.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Chris Silberman was a Good NOT great tv lit agent..he was passable..he Never had the “A” list writer Producers and the only dhow he packaged of Note was Jim Belushi..so you put this guy in charge and who is he going to sign
No One..what is his pitch to a movie star
“Well you know Jim Belushi…I packaged his show so Denzel you can have confidence in me
sweetie, you don’t know anything about Chris or his client list. First of all, you can’t even spell his last name. Secondly, do you even know what an “A list” writer is? If you are in the business, which clearly you aren’t, you would have access to studio system or the like, and you could look up his client list. Some of his writers and producers that you talk about, have the BEST overalls in the business. He kills it for his clients (some of which have 3 shows on the air)….oh and According to Jim? not too shabby.
no offense, but nobody knows how to spell his name.
ha, Criminal Minds, Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy…are these not “of note” enough for you?
That was NOT Chris’ doing … it was Broders. He’s the genius in that company. Godspeed.
I’ll go further — Chris was not even a good agent. He was a guy who would close your deal for you, and then tell you why it was a better deal than you thought it was.
So,are they only working for Silbermann now?
So I guess they are spilling the beans on what’s going on with ICM. Stay on them Nikki, so we can get the scoop!
Usually PR firms fire their clients because they refuse to listen to their counsel. Perhaps that’s what’s going on here.
Great reporting Nikki, this is going to be a very interesting thing to watch unfold.
The sad part is there are some cool and hard working people in that building that are getting really short ends of the stick in this whole situation.
ICM is barely keeping its head above water, while Nikki and the other agencies feed on the blood of what we can see is a clear unravelling of one of the (formerly great) Hollywood agencies. Sad to see and hard to read but she’s right. Silbermann at the helm is a continued mistake. He’s unfit and unqualified. He does not know how to manage talent or people. Sadly, there’s no one person to blame, but it will be interesting to see how the other agencies react. Leaves quite a bit of room for VULNERABILITY …. wow must be tough to be Chris right now
And then the crisis firm puts out a press release about it?
Only a matter of time I bet until we hear who is gearing up to step in and settle some of this chaos… Gersh or Paradigm?
My guess is that the Gores buy the biz outright
the only reason why chris won’t resign is because he has too much pride. its a sinking agency and its sad to see the good people in the building go down with it. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN. Or, run to UTA …
Resign? Seriously? The one who wants the company to be more of a partnership and reward fellow agents for their hard work? The one who says hello to any and all staff he sees each morning? Those that work with Chris (me being one if them – not an assistant, not an agent) know he’s a really great guy. He’s a strong leader who cares about the well-being of those who work for him. He is gracious. He is energetic. He never fails to thank you (in person) if you worked late to get a report done for him. He never fails to remember a detail you told him about your weekend. He is the boss that creates a culture of friendliness, energy and supportiveness. I’m sure if his staff sees him this way, his clients are even more pleased.
“He is the boss that creates a culture of friendliness, energy and supportiveness”. Wow. You must be new. Ask any agent in that building if they feel the same way.
This is all so ridiculously dramatized. ICM is not “imploding”- It’s Hollywood, people go head to head all the time… that doesn’t mean ICM isn’t working hard for their clients and at the end of the day, that is ALL that matters. Relax people and move on.
Mike Ovitz and Jim Wiatt must be rejoicing now that Silbermann has replaced them as the ultimate jackass of hollywood. In the words of Mark Cuban, the guy couldn’t run a dairy queen.
Agree with Come On. This whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Lest we forget the drama when Endeavor and William Morris merged.
2 more ICM agent are leaving ICM and either going to CAA or UTA. Should break in the next week or so. Both have good client lists.
Insider- If you were one of the WMA agents that got canned post “merger” I doubt you would have found the reporting “blown out of proportion.” Similarly, if I was at ICM, knowing my fate was similar to those at WMA would not provide comfort….
