In an interview with Forbes promoting his new book about JFK, Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s Hardball, admits that he is a friend of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes who in 1994 hired him to host his first program, Politics with Chris Matthews, a precursor to Hardball, on MSNBC’s predecessor America’s Talking. “I know all the attitudes people have about him, and I’ll tell you, I’m loyal as hell to this guy because he brought me in,” Matthews was quoting as saying, adding that he has turned down two offers to follow Ailes to Fox. I have confirmed that the job offers are indeed real though they are more than 10 years-old. “Those offers were made before we became #1,” a Fox News executive said. “Where would we put him now? Maybe as a lead in to Red Eye.” This is a reference to the fact that in October, Fox News’ 3 AM show Red Eye beat MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews in adults 25-54 with 177,000 viewers vs. 163,000.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Even as a “conservative” I always like Chris Mathews because he always talked about old Washington et al. And I used to watch Harball and MSNBC up until 2006. Now he’s a crazed loon with no attachment to reality. Amaxing what delusional liberalism unchecked will do to somebody.
Pardon me, but the only delusional person here is you. Matthews has spent 20 years trashing the Clintons (he once said of Hillary, “I hate her! I hate her! I hate her! I hate her!”), praising Bush (“Everybody loves him except the left-wing wackos.”) and giving oceans of airtime to right-wing crackpots. He once promoted a full hour with Ann Coulter, during which she said such horrible things about the terminally ill Elizabeth Edwards that he was forced to bring the latter on the next day to formally apologize…but that still didn’t stop him from bringing Coulter back. He’s about as liberal as Karl Rove.
Right back at ya’, Rock.
Why on earth Matthews would be loyal to a man that has douchebag execs that say things like “Where would we put him now? Maybe as a lead in to Red Eye.” is beyond me. Roger Ailes isn’t a news man anymore, Chris Matthews should reevaluate to whom he gives his loyalty.
don’t see this happening because Matthews and Bill O’Reilly hate each others guts.
nice try Ailes…
INSANITY.
“This is a reference to the fact that in October, Fox News’ 3 AM show Red Eye beat MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews”
LOL
Yea… that will happen.
And if it does, I’ll stop watching news entirely because then it will all be BS.
Chris Mathews and the spittle he accumulates on the sides of his mouth is repulsive kind of like him. He belongs on MSLSD (MSNBC) That whole network is a joke and an Obama cheerleader. They are so in your face bias it’s actually insulting to anyone with an IQ over 30. That’s why the viewing audience for MSNBC is 30 and under.
This country needs a financial incentive for a inducement to do something about this counties tax structure.
