Absolutely Fabulous creator and co-star Jennifer Saunders plans to write a movie version of the BBC TV comedy. She hopes to pen the feature film next year once she has finished work on the Spice Girls London stage musical Viva Forever. BBC Films boss Christine Langan tells me: “I think she’s a genius. I can’t imagine anything more exciting than working with her.” Absolutely Fabulous, which aired on BBC America, follows the lives of two best friends – Edina, an international PR guru by trade but a 1960s teenager at heart, and Patsy, a sex-crazed magazine editor. Ab Fab: The Movie will kick off with Patsy and Edina waking up hungover in the empty drifting yacht of an oligarch in the middle of the ocean. Even worse, their cellphones can’t get a signal. BBC America has just co-produced three new Absolutely Fabulous TV specials, the first of which will air in the UK at Christmas. The show became a hit when it first aired in 1992 until 1995. Creator Saunders then revived the show in 2001 and it ran for another three series until 2003.

This movie will be a big hit with the 49 or so people who care.
50. 50 people who care.
Stagger back to your rave, emo poser. You obviously are to young and stupid to understand comedic genius.
no shit; isn’t there some insipid vampire (“who’s Dracula?” line on “HUNG last Sunday)or English schoolboy rehash for you little ones to feast your unsophisticated, special effects-palsied eyes upon? onward, Pats and Ed, we need something to laugh about!
AWESOME NEWS !!!!
BUST OUT THE BOLLI AND NIBBLY BITS DAHLING, CAN’T WAIT!!! HUZZZAH!!! THEY MUST must must HAVE BUBBLE, too!
With so much about the 1% that is ripe for satire, this is more timely than ever. Go Team Saunders!
Are u serious? AbFab is probably the best thing to happen in TV and Finally on the big screen! If ur not interested don’t read about AbFab! And DON’T leave negativity for us.. Yes All of US to read!
Just can’t wait LOL!
I love Ab Fab gals
Sounds fantastic.
Also, nice way to sneak in news about a Spice Girls musical. When did this happen?
I am interested to see how this pans out. In many ways, that show was ahead of its time. Now that the term “cougar” is part of pop culture around the world, people might really connect with these broads (among other reasons). On the other hand, Im skeptical as to whether or not a full length film will work vs. a series.
Well, “The Inbetweeners” movie, based on the sitcom, is a smash success that has now grossed something like $70M U.S. and won’t open Stateside for another couple of weeks. That, no doubt, got the BBC’s attention. They’ll be thrilled with a fraction of that number just from its big U.K. fan base.
This movie will be a huge hit in the US. HBO or YouTube will co-produce. It will run 95 mins., open to small on limited screens in mostly urban markets then do huge numbers On Demand/PPV, iTunes, Amazon.
Expect lots of huge cameos done for scale. And a very lean production budget.
Maybe the girls get hired to resurrect Mike Myers’ career. And maybe in doing so, they upset a plot for total world entertainment domination hatched by Rickey Gervais, and his puppet Lady Gaga.
Hey, guys who think 49/50 people care!
Hit me up and I’ll help you apply for a passport. There are countries other than American who make TV shows (and movies). And some of them are actually good.
I know an English accent can be soooo hard to understand, but give it a try. Or watch more eps of 2 1/2 Men with your Coors Lite and Dominos Pizza.
he doesn’t know what hes talking about. That show here has a huge fan base. It will make money here. Your right there are other countries that make movies. and Most of them are much better written than 90% of out crap
It’s Coors Lite and Pizza Hut. Get it straight….
Ab Fab was always way ahead of its time. I can’t wait.
Right there with you. Sounds terrific. Can’t enough of these characters.
FUCK YEAH GIVE ME MORE ABFAB
I NEED IT BAD
Hey! I’m only just 25 & watch Ab Fab! Did i understand what was going on the 1st time round no, but now that i do i love it!
It won’t work without a laugh track. How this show ever became a hit is beyond me. Then again the Brits operate on a whole other level than we do, as do the Canadians with their inexplicable Red/Green series which lasted 14 years.
I’ll fly to London to see it if I have to – GIVE ME MORE AB FAB! Jennifer Saunders is a GENIUS!
Good idea but about 15 years too late. And not “American” enough to catch on in terms of the numbers they will need.
They are a classic… Their last show was shot in 2004/2005 so it is not 15 years too late.
I am so excited and I can’t wait!!!
This is the best news ever! How did I miss it???
Sweetie, darling. Darling, sweetie? May I call you Sweetie, Darling? Sweetie???
I can’t believe it’s been 20 years of Ab Fab – but Jennifer Saunders is a genius – and the casting with anyone else would never have worked, special chemistry there. I am beyond thrilled that she is going to write a movie for the big screen – I think is wonderful!!!
Absolutely the best thing that could happen now!! Never too late.. We can always watch MORE!! And will!!
