NBC News’ love affair with children of powerful politicians continues. True, the daughter of former GOP presidential candidate John McCain already made frequent appearances on MSNBC. But news about her new gig follows the announcement last week that NBC had hired Chelsea Clinton. Former President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush also is a correspondent at the network. Too bad for professional journalists who don’t come from famous families and are looking for work at a time when there are few openings. Here’s the announcement:
NEW YORK – November 21, 2011 – Meghan McCain has joined MSNBC as a contributor, with her first appearance today at noon ET on “NOW with Alex Wagner.” She has been a frequent MSNBC guest since 2009.
“I couldn’t more be excited to be joining the MSNBC family,” said McCain. “It’s a unique opportunity to share my perspective as a Republican on a network I respect and have built a relationship with over the past two years.”
As the daughter of U.S. Senator John McCain, Meghan McCain was propelled into the national spotlight at an early age. Her unparalleled exposure to American politics gave her the opportunity to hear voters debate the most complex issues first-hand. McCain’s time on the campaign trail with her father inspired her acclaimed memoir, “Dirty Sexy Politics.” The book chronicles her personal journey across the American political landscape. Campaigning with her father also inspired McCain to publish “My Dad, John McCain,” an illustrated children’s book that brings her father’s heroic story to life.
As a columnist for The Daily Beast, she passionately discusses women’s issues, social issues, marriage equality and her firm belief that there is room for all walks of life in the GOP. While in college, McCain worked at Newsweek magazine and Saturday Night Live. She is a graduate of Columbia University and currently resides in New York City.

at least people tried to hide nepotism in the past, now it’s ushered in with a laugh.
All you need to do is search out some excerpts from her foul, illiterate “book” published last year to fully appreciate what a buffoonish joke this is.
I feel like MSNBC tries to go for figures that don’t fit the stereotypical mold for their party or political affiliation. They also tend to go for very strong personalities, so as to, honestly, make good television. I think Meghan McCain is less a case of nepotism and more of MSNBC continuing with their MO because she honestly fits both of those requirements.
Jay,
MSNBC is horrible television news… horrible.. and adding Meghan McCain to their mix is just the latest in bad decision making. Do you work for NBC, because everyone is scratching their head at this in a state of disbelief. I thought Comcast would bring something to the table at NBC, but they are making Jeff Zucker look like a genius.
My Two Cents.

It gets harder daily to take MSNBC seriously.
I mean, AL SHARPTON?!?! That ALONE should bundle MSNBC with Jon Stewart and Comedy Central.
Do not. Do not compare Al Sharpton on MSNBC with Daily Show. Why? Because the Daily Show is serious in its coverage of candidates and events when compared to CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. Jon and his crew actually remember when candidates say completely contradictory statements. Half the comedy of that show comes from really quoting really stupid politicians or blowhard news pundits.
The Daily show is comedy and nothing about it is serious. Frankly, you are the joke.
Are you talking about the same Jon Stewart that claims “I’m just a comedian” any time he loses an argument to his opposition (Conservatives) or attempts to sidestep responsibility for his — uhhh — “informed” rants??
Kinda hard to figure out who to take less seriously? Jon or Al?
Resist, I much.
It’s more of a case of someone who is affiliated with the Republican party who does nothing but talk crap about Republicans. Her and Ron Reagan should have a show. Instead of Point, Counter Point it could be called Point, Point…
And CNN is laying off producers, camera people and editors in favor of found/amateur video. This is why I look to the BBC for actual news. Shameful.
Meghan is hot, though, and I’m a Lib.
So this means Bristol Palin can’t be too far away. Good thing she had all that teevee training via DWTS.
Regrettably, the Jenna Bush analysis will have to be cleared by Liz Cheney before she will be allowed to present it on the air.
Rumor at NBC is that Bristol Palin is set as new host for “MEET THE PRESS”!
BRISTOL PALIN to be named new moderator for “Meet The Press”!!!
NBC looking for a real journalist, but Snooki was contractually tied up.
BIG MOUTHED DITZ—no not Hyperbolic Boy Matthews, but the imbecilic McCain progeny.
Apparently NO standards at MSNBC— first race hustling chiseler Sharpton— Manchurian Candidate Chelsea— now no brains McCain brat.
Such high standards of journalism.
This is a sad state of affairs. These young women are set for life financially and have done little to “earn” these positions. NBC News is becoming Reality TV News.
On a similar note, I didn’t realize many pother felt the same way about Sharpton. His previous work makes him great for opinion, but not hosting a news program.
Oops, I forgot this chick existed. It won’t work, though – Fox News still has the hottest, cutest and sexist female anchors and reporters anywhere.
Just saying.
As if I needed further reason not to watch MSNBC.
I don’t care which network does it, but someone has GOT to hire Jon Huntsman’s daughter Abby Livingston. That girl is clearly the hottest daughter of a politician out there. I would watch her read off the weather…
She’s not getting paid to be a reporter or an actual journalist. She’s getting paid to bloviate on tv. It’s dumb, but who cares?
It’s some crazy-headed idea of some moronic Comcast executive that if they hire the children of famous politicians, they’ll have better access to those people. Think about it. Are the Clintons, Dubya or McCain going to badmouth MSNBC when their kids are working there?
