UPDATE: Insiders on Django Unchained said that the talks with Michael Kenneth Williams just won’t work out because of his schedule on Boardwalk Empire. They are scrapping that role completely.
EXCLUSIVE: Michael Kenneth Williams, best known for his work as drug dealer/robber Omar in The Wire and bootlegger Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, will play a supporting role in Snitch and is looking at another shot at joining Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. In the Ric Roman Waugh-directed Snitch, he’ll play a narcotics kingpin with a short temper who becomes involved with a man (Dwayne Johnson) who is turning DEA snitch to get his son a reduced prison stretch. The film shoots early next month. Django Unchained is also in the works. Williams was under consideration by Tarantino to play the title role, but Jamie Foxx got that job. Now, Williams’ reps at The Collective are trying to work out dates with the third season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire so that Williams can play another role in the film that Tarantino is working out creatively. I’m told that it’s likely he’ll play muscle for ranch owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

He’s so fierce and I would LOVE to see him on something other than that mess Boardwalk Empire.
He should have dropped everything and went balls-out for Django.
I mean the guy IS Django. Tarantino made a mistake here. I like Jamie Fox but the role belongs to MKW. The guy could have won an Oscar.
Totally bummed out.
I’ve worked with Michael and all I can say is that he is a professional and a great actor. I was a young director and he couldn’t have been kinder and more collaborative. Good for him.
Williams’ character name in Django Unchained is ‘Bartholomew’
Omar is the man!
Omar’s coming!!
OMAR COMING! I have never seen such a WEstern type line in a modern day setting
It’s all in the game though, right?
His Boardwalk schedule is keeping him from working with Tarantino? He is hardly even on Boardwalk, how is this possible?
That’s too bad. They can move his schedule on BE if they cross boarded a few things. He needs to get his bigger career going. Unfair of Boardwalk Empire. If I was him I’d be mighty pissed off.
“ranch” ???? Its called a plantation — a ranch eludes to a very different thing. Come on.
Yes Ranch! It may be called a plantation but Candies character owns a Ranch. All slaves didn’t work on plantations.
Come at the king, you best not miss.
Omar comin yo!!!…I hope he can do the Django movie…how much more are they shootin for Boardwalk..
If you come at the King, you best not miss
Drug dealer/robber? No, he was a robber of drug dealers. Ever watch the show, Mike?
A superb actor. His mantlepiece should be groaning under a weight of awards by now. Make it happen, Tarantino!
i thought boardwalk wrapped their season already. what gives?

Yes Ranch_ all slaves didn’t work on just plantations. Slaves worked on whatever the master told them to and the Candies character owned a Ranch.
Michael K. Williams, like many other Black actors in Hollywood, discovered that Quentin Tarantino didn’t make him and therefore cannot break him. Good call to walk away from a role that is, apparently, not even relevant to the script. Other projects exist for Williams and for Idris Elba and Will Smith and Chris Tucker and Kevin Costner and Jonah Hill and nameless others who turned their backs on idiocy.
